16 Years Ago – Will It Never End? #9/11 #MondayBlogs

This time last year, I posted about what I was doing that fateful day – 9/11 – when the world changed.

Image result for 9/11 never forget

Has it made any changes for the positive since then?

There have been more attacks, with Islamic terrorist groups taking the blame.

Trump has been blowing his hot air into the atmosphere.

Kim Jong Un threatening to set off Nuclear bombs.

And there have been plenty of natural disasters causing mayhem in the world.

Yet;

We have seen compassion.

The rush of aid to the various places where devastations have occurred.

People cmore likely to stand up to misplaced racism, especially against those Brown Skinned folks who are nothing to do with terrorism.

Sometimes it’s just little things. If we can keep making changes, little stands against the wrongs happening in the world, maybe, just maybe, we can help to turn things around in this world.

Today stands for remembrance, for all those innocents who lost lives, in 9/11 and all the other atrocities.

But it is also a time to address that if we can make a choice, offer a hand, we can change what’s going on in the world – together.

It’s our world. It’s our children’s future.

Let’s not let it die…

Thank you, Ritu for expressing the hope that we, each one of us, can change things. For pointing out that each time we refuse to hate we make a difference 🙂

It makes me so sad and angry, the world does. I can just about remember Lockerbie, as your pal mentioned above. I also remember there being a constant state of alert in my childhood too, in the 1980s, with the IRA on the scene. So although the state of terror is not a new thing, it always seems to find new ways and more sinister twists and turns 😦

The natural disasters are different though because – negligence aside – we can’t actually do much about them.

I remember it well too. I was working with a Govt Dept at the time and we met at teh Ministry of Defence. Suddenly we were told we would be locked in the basement and not permitted to leave.

Yes, there are many things still going on Sis that are terrifying, but there is also hope. People have shown remarkable kindness towards each other and have joined together in solidarity

“…always bringing 9-11 up…” rather! I wish WordPress would improve their site by allowing you to edit your own remarks. I always see the glaring mistakes after re-reading the comment, then posting it. Drives me nuts!

In the 10th anniversary year, a Dutch (I think) architect firm designed twin towers for Korea that had a curious lattice around the two buildings that suggested the NYC Twin Towers after the two airplanes were flown into them.

The coincidence of the tenth anniversary and the suggestion of the tragedy in the new design prompted me to comment on the matter on photobooth. *(Remember that site?)

A young Peruvian immigrant who lived across the way from the Twin Towers and could see the tragedy as it happened was upset with me because my comments “would threaten our friendship with South Korea”! They might even end diplomatic relations with the USA!

A Scottish fellow, also in his early 20s and studying in Florida to become a commercial airplane pilot, mocked Americans and me for always bring 9-11 up. It was time for us to put it aside, he said because the rest of the world didn’t give a damn what happened on September 11, 2001, and, further, I was crazy to object to the Korean twin towers design because it didn’t look like anything but what it was.

Considering America’s long-term relationship with South Korea as ally and protector from aggression by North Korea, I pointed out to the ignorant young Peruvian, my remarks would register on any level with the government of South Korea.

To the Scottish would-be airline pilot, I reminded him of Lockerbie, which he would have been too young, perhaps, to remember at the time and that nearly 3000 people in three places died on September 11, 2001, that they came from over 70 countries – not just the USA – and that he, as a person studying to be a pilot of commercial jets surely should be a bit less cold and insensitive to the possibility, no matter how slight, of flying a jet hijacked by terrorists. I couldn’t believe how cold his remarks were!

I blocked both of these a-holes after that.

In retrospect, the Korean building has green spaces on the part that suggested the NYC Twin Towers in flames, and South Korea didn’t send the US Department of State an angry response with regards my comments about their building, nor did they cut off diplomatic relations! As for that a-hole Scot, I am glad he flies more safely because of tightened security on commercial flights, but there still is the risk of a terrorist managing to wear rigged shoes, underwear, whatever or carrying on explosives that might replicate a Lockerbie-like event on a plane he’s piloting. Never mind, though, because it doesn’t make a damn bit of difference to the Scot!

You’re so right, Ritu. In spite of the headlines, I’m sure the world is a better place. There is more compassion and caring and a willingness to share. Strangely enough, I even think some of that is filtering through to people who have the power to really change things. Not enough yet, but it’s getting there. In the mean time, those small acts of kindness we carry out each day will continue to ripple outwards.

It makes me sad at times that the rhetoric in the media, online and in public seems to have gone downhill since that day (as well as blaming others, hating others etc.). But I hope it’s only a temporary glitch and that people will see that the only way to survive and save our poor battered little planet is by being more together rather than pulling apart. Or do I sound too much like an idealist?

I remember that day and all the news coverage. You’re right that if people just do a little kindness to the people next to them, it makes a big difference. I follow the news about the hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma even though I don’t have any friend live in Texas or Florida, In Texas, the news said that strangers just jumped in to help and worked side by side with the professional. We need people who don’t let their hearts to turn into stone!

Sounds like a good deal! But I’m not sure how that works. You see I’m a bimbo when it comes to computer related technical stuff. I can write all day long but talk to me of links and ping backs and you’ve lost me!! 😦 that’s why I don’t even attempt the WordPress prompts and other stuff.
