I sit here often, thinking of taking a break.

A blogging break.
A real one.
You know, no visiting blogs, writing, reading, interacting… nothing.
Yet I can’t do it.
I think of the reasons to stop, yet there are arguments that voice themselves, making me think I can’t just up and disappear.

Reasons to stop
- Real life is manic – whose isn’t though, eh!
- My kids need to see me doing things rather than being on a pc or laptop a lot of the time… am I setting a good example?
- That WIP isn’t going to get itself finished
- Certain people think maybe I’m more involved in my online life than reality
- No one is really going to miss me that much – I am one of millions of bloggers out there, there is plenty to read without my mindless ramblings

Reasons to not
- I love my blogily
- Reading and writing feeds my creativity
- I love to spread positivity
- I get to switch off from the worries of life and enjoy my time interacting with my friends around the world
- I feel I can really be ‘me’ on my blog
- I’m not in the right frame of mind to be writing my WIP at the moment but I don’t want to lose the love of writing
- I am perfectly capable of switching off when I need to do other things (just!)
- I enjoy it. This is my one outlet, my one stress reliever. I don’t drink, go out regularly with friends, go to the gym etc, this is my one ‘vice’ so to speak.
I did decide to post less… but I still end up on here at least once a day, taking part in creative prompts, and reading via my reader during the day.
I’m still sharing the odd posts for others, but not as active on my blogging group as I know that took a lot of time out of my days; on an interacting and sharing mission, I was – hands and eyes glued to my phone so I could be a fully active participant. I still do some days, but not every single one.
The long and the short of it is that I can’t let go. And I don’t want to. I have seen a few close blogging friends take that blog break leap, and know that it hasn’t affected their blog or interactions in the long run, but I just can’t!
I think my blog is keeping my sanity, in all honesty! I can rant, I can joke, I can be serious… and I know that y’all got my back!

So I guess you’re stuck with me Peeps!
Have a great Tuesday – I need to go pack my bags for my road trip to my parents tomorrow!

Trying to juggle everything pretty hard, I work PT in Local Government, which is more than enough. Many of my friends are teachers, I know how much additional time they need to spend at home, so between that, family and blogging – you deserve full credit!

I share your struggle, Ritu. I work Thursday and Friday and take somewhat of a break those days. It is a relief and I miss it at the same time. It is difficult to balance participation in the blogging world with making time for your creativity. And the work never ends, so I need to take time of separation to keep things fresh and keep ideas flowing.

Fascinating study in self justcifcation…said with tongue in cheek and a great deal of nodding and cheesy grin. How many people have this internal discussion? Lucy did it last week, I do it every time I write a manuscript…usually January and February…although that might be SAD in action thinking about it.
It’s hard to get the balance just right too. Do I log in too often, am I on too many platforms, should I be outside more, engaging in the real world…all valid guilt thoughts. Flip it over, how many brilliant friends have I met here? Like minded and not quite the insular village people around here. It reaches out to all corners of the world, different cultures, ethnicity, beliefs….and yet we are all the same underneath. It keeps perspective and reality presses the media and politicians. Close friends are often distant too. Blogging is a hobby so why not absorb in it? So many reasons to keep doing it IMO.
I’d miss you too…just saying x

Gosh, sharing things is the easy bit lol. Hot click and poof…although I feel you might be referring to social media days where both you and I go out on a limb trying to catch everyone. One thing I learned writing my manuscript was how much time there is by stepping away from social media. I can’t do both which is why I was totally on-board with Lucy’s situation…. now about your WIP lol
Still, bottom line is if it’s fun and stays fun then all OK, if its lost the fun and one still “needs” to post them we are doing it wrong and accept addiciotn!! #GaTu

I agree too, if its half hearted, then you end up re-writing it anyway so better to wait until your are in the zone…as long as that’s not #procrastinating which. I shall have you know I am most excellent at 🙂 #GaTu

I’ve been worried about taking breaks in case I lose all my followers or something terrible happens! But, nothing like that has happened and a short break has helped refresh me and motivate me to get back to it. However, I think I needed the break in the first place because of the pressure I placed on myself to post and come up with “great” posts. So, maybe the likelihood of needing a break is lowered if we place less pressure on ourselves to post X number of times a week. You do what feels right for you…like you, it’s a creative outlet for me so I couldn’t imagine my life without it!

What Cherie says above resonates with me. I work from home, and in these days of digital communication I can go days without face-to-face contact with a colleague. Blogging is social. However, if it gets too much, we all have to put it on the back burner from time to time

I’ve realised how addictive blogging is, but in a good way of course. I am always wanting to learn new things and reading other blog posts gives me easy access to stuff I thought I’d never learn. I too am reducing the number of blog posts I publish – from 2 to 1, so not a massive reduction – but it’s giving me time to write some perpared content and get ahead of the game.
Oh and what does WIP stand for?? 🤔

We do what we can do. If there are days that we can’t write, so be it. Sometimes luck/destiny or God works in ways that we can’t even fathom. Against all my good judgement, I took my notebook with me when I went to India in December, 2017. As luck would have it, I lost the notebook in Seoul airport. Took it out during security check as I was going out to the hotel for my 14 hrs layover and must have left it somewhere there. Gave a complaint in lost and found but it was not found. As a result I had a most enjoyable vacation in India but missed out on creating a travel blog of my trip. I have hundreds of photographs and many ideas in my head what to write but its not happening. Who cares, live goes on.

We all need a break for whatever reason. Running out of ideas for posts is always good for taking time out! Have a safe trip.

You would be missed…but we would all be here when you got back 🙂
I haven’t missed a day completely for probably the last three years, and that was because I collapsed in a heap in a layby. But once a month, I step back a bit for a few days when I go north… without that break, I’d have a lot less to write about 😉

Well you definitely need the break Sue… though your blog keeps giving whilst you’re gone!!!
I’ve managed a day… but I find myself wandering back.. it’s addictive!
Thank you though Sue. Xxx

Blogging is a bit of a lifeline right now… don’t think I’ll be sneaking off anytime soon!

I would miss you too but you know that I have to take breaks at times due to my mental health and life, of course. If you feel you need one maybe it would be good to give it to yourself anyway. Doesn’t need to be for a long time either 😊 but I also know what you mean. Life without blogging doesn’t seem worth to me 😗

Thanks Bee. To me… just posting prompt responses has been a kind of break… but I miss the creativity of forming your own thought provoking post too!
I scale back but never stop completely. 💜

This is my new social network. Since I do not work outside the home right now, and very few people here(in my town) speak English, this is what I do each day. I would lose my mind if I didn’t have this! My cat gets tired of talking to me after a while..lol

I can totally understand that! I know I work… but outside of school I have my family and not much elsr. My closest friends are far away so I can’t meet them easily. My blogily means a lot to me. 🙂
