Last night, as is the norm in this house, Lil Princess was being a bit of a diva.
And, true to form, as she was moaning, Lil Man was adding his ten pence worth in too, winding her up even more.
We were trying to eat a family dinner, and as he laughed at his sister, he dropped food.
Me: “Can you just stop? Why do have to exacerbate the situation?
Lil Man: “What?”
Hubby Dearest: “That’s not even a word!”
Cue giggles from the kids.
Hubby Dearest: [feeling smug] “You mean exasperate, don’t you?”
Me: ” Are you questioning me? A writer?” {I mean, really!}
Cue more giggling.
I got up from the table and went to the bookshelf, which is conveniently located right in the dining area. Extracting the dictionary from it’s home, I leafed through the pages and found exasperate… but exacerbate was not there…
No no no!
I knew it was a word, I knew the meaning, but I couldn’t find it! I had to show him!
Then, there it was.
Me: ” See! Exasperate – to irritate intentionally, and look, there – Exacerbate – to make a situation worse!”
Hubby Dearest: ” Yeah, right, whatever…”
Lil Man was sat next to me smirking. Lil Princess looking at her daddy, giggling.
Me: ” And you two, stop being exacerbatingly exasperating, and finish your dinner!”
I knew I was right!
The rest of the meal proceeded with various versions of this new to them word being bandied about, predominantly in the wrong context!
I think I should start a word of the day for the family!

How… exasperating 😤😬 Kid are a trip and a half, if they can ignore the truth in favor of their own, they will. It’s nuts! A word of the day sounds good! No dessert until you can use the word in a sentence properly!

Smug pleasure😊
Knew the word but hardly use it.
Even if the word is not there, a writer should have a license to invent one. Otherwise how a language is going to progress. God did not give us all the word.
