The Tousled, The Straight and The Curly #Poem #EmbraceYourself

Do you ever wish for something else?

The Tousled, The Straight and The Curly

What is it with us women
Never happy with our lot
If you’re flat you want to be curvy
Yet the curvy ones hate their bot!

My gripe is my hair
A head of springs since I was wee
And yet I would lament
And wish for all the straight hair that I’d see

Once old enough to grapple
With a straightening device
I desperately tried to iron them out
But my curls were hard to entice

Then a visit to the salon
Gave me locks so silky and straight
I swished my hair, here and there
I sure thought I looked great!

But no one told me what would happen
In the dead of the night...
The hair fairy must have come
I woke up and looked a fright!

No more swishy, straightened hair
But rather, a wavy mess
Oh no! My silky hair had gone
I felt more than a little distress.

But then I calmed it with my fingers
And it didn’t seem so bad
Tousled waves looked back at me
Not frizz - for that I was glad!

Ad then I washed it – Dear God!
All that ironing was in vain
For all the bouncy, springy curls
Had reappeared once again!

It was then, I realised that I must
Embrace just what I had
And be thankful that I have all three looks
Three for one – now, that ain’t bad!

The straight for if I need sophistication
The tousled for smart casual time
But the curls, all bouncy, out of control
Well, yes, that’s me – They’re mine!

See, this is the kind of thing that appears in my notebook, when I am left unattended!

I’m sitting in the rather plush canteen at my Hubby Dearest’s work. I have been his driver (Yes, Driving Mr Hoppalong, rather than Miss Daisy), bringing him to his office for the first time in nearly two months, and though I am surrounded by editing papers, kindle and laptop, this was what bubbled to the surface of my mind!

Hope you enjoy!

Hahah I love it! Your hair is incredible, wild & perhaps not that easy to tame but it’s awesome. Maybe I’ll do a poem about my limp hair…😂

Enjoy? yes… Relate??? TOTALLY!!! Oh the stress of curly hair. You’re so right- we will always find something we aren’t happy with. Conditioned that way, I suppose. But we can change that!

Oh my my! I LOVED IT!! I had this wide grin on my face as I nodded my head to every word! Why are we like this? Never happy with what we have. The girl with the curly mop, wishes for straight hair, and the girl with the straight hair, desires curls! Same goes to body shape, too! 🙂
    Super super lines!
Visited you after a really long time, but enjoyed it!

It is interesting what a difference it makes if the hair is straight or curly. From the mid-’80s to the mid-90s I had a permanent wave. My hair was so straight but I wanted a lion’s mane. Never really got it but after 10 years of torturing my hair, I accepted my straight hair.. lol.

I’ve got a natural wave, but had the curly perm years ago. Easy wash and go, no faffing about with dryers and tongs. It’s long now, about three inches above my waist. Still easy to maintain and scrunchies are my best friend!

I wondered why my daughter-in-law was so paranoid about going out in the rain. Then one day we saw a picture of her dressed up for a ‘DO’ with lovely long curly hair. Me ‘Did you have your hair permed?’ It turned out that was her real hair and she usually straightened it; the lightest rainfall would send it curly!

Brilliant, Ritu. I have waves now. They came about three years ago after many years of straight hair. I love my waves.

You’re so right, Ritu. We are rarely completely happy with what we have. I wish I was taller and had a different nose…I have a daughter-in-law like you with beautiful, curly hair but she’s always straightening it! You look lovely as you are. xx

I love your curly hair. I have spent a fortune over the years on perms etc to get the curly look as my hair is poker straight. I have finally decided to live with it. You are so right. We always want what we don’t have!! A perfect poem.

I loved every line. And I love every look. You should be left alone with your thoughts more often.
