#SoCS Dec. 23/16 – Cook 🎄

Linda’s SoCS prompt this week.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “cook.” Find a word that means “cook,” (or use “cook” itself) and use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Now this post is dedicated to all those cooks who turn into 5-star chefs at this time of year.

Admittedly, all the offerings don’t end up as Michelin starred dishes, but hey, we all try, don’t we!

As a child, I always used to look forward to our Christmas dinner. We had chicken, though, not turkey, as Pops wasn’t fond of the dry meat. Served up with the obligatory stuffing, roasties, Pigs in Blankets and veg, not forgetting the gravy, it always tasted amazing!

It wasn’t until I got married that I actually realised exactly how much work went into this one meal!

From the initial buying of all the components, to the preparations, to the timing of all the individual items, to the juggling of oven space… my, it was mind blowing!

I think my respect for my mother went up 10 notches just after juggling that first Christmas meal!

Since then I have single-handedly cooked a fair few festive meals, until my brother in law got married, then there were two of us to deal with the preparations!

Sounds totally sexist, right? The women in the kitchen, slaving away, while the blokes slowly get tipsy and watch Christmas TV!

Well, if I am honest, I’d rather be in the kitchen!

Let them deal with the kids moaning that there aren’t enough batteries, or working out how to fix presents together! And they can also ration the TV between themselves… fun when you have kids wanting one thing, and the adults totally different programmes!

No, I’d much rather be in the kitchen cooking. It’s rather fun, to be honest, glass of wine at the side, good company to while the time away, and someone to share the burden with!

And satisfying when everyone enjoys the meal… even brussel sprouts!!!

Merry Christmas all!

#SoCS Dec. 17/16 – Moot

Linda’s prompt for #SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “moot.” Use it as the theme of your post or just use the word in a stream of consciousness post about something else. Enjoy!

Now, Linda, that’s not fair!

Not a nice easy pre-Christmas, festive prompt!

So I ended up with this nonsense rhyme! Hope you enjoy 🙂

“The prompt”, she said, “is moot.”
But it just didn’t compute
Some might think it a beaut
But it’s rendered me almost mute!

So I’ll just rhyme with it – Bandicoot
And there’s also passionfruit
How about lawsuit?
Or maybe cowboy boot?

Not before I convolute
And you, my Peeps, dispute
I really must just shoot
I hope you had a hoot!

#SoCS Dec. 10/16 – Bear/Bare

Linda’s Saturday prompt

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “bear/bare.” Use one, use both, use ’em any way you please. Have fun!

The Bare Necessities.

One of my all time favourite Disney songs, from my absolute favourite movie, The Jungle Book!

It’s one of those songs that I simply cannot stop singing, once I hear it! You know, like one of those ear worms, that annoy the heck out of you, except this one doesn’t annoy me, but probably annoys all those around me as I go about my business, being Baloo the Bear, singing about the best way to go about life (if you were a bear!)

Many people ask me if I like it because of the connection to India, me being Indian, but to be honest, it’s as far removed from any India I have ever experienced! In fact it didn’t really click to me that the film was even based in India until much later!

As I got older, then the racial connotations of people calling Indian boys Mowgli, started to make sense.

But you know what, I am not interested in making this some preachy post about racism, and stereotyping, oh no!

I just want to celebrate this fantastic film, and song!

So, which song is your ear-worm of choice?

#SoCS Dec. 3/16 – Sh

Linda’s SoCS prompt this week is…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “sh.” Find a word that begins with the letters “sh” and base your post on it. Bonus points if you start your post with those letters. Enjoy!

Shush!

It’s something I seem to do an awful lot…

Shushing people, but usually little people!

It is a futile task though, really.

If a 3 year old wants to talk, no amount of shushing will make any difference.

Believe me, I try constantly.

It could be that I am introducing a short task, and the others are trying to listen, or we are trying to hear another child giving some news to us.

It may even be me reading a story, and a child not able to contain them selves, shouting out their own commentary throughout.

Or incessant crying for  no reason, and no amount of cuddles and words will stop the flow of tears.

(Believe me, I am a patient person, but after an hour of the persistent whine I defy anyone to not say SHUSH!)

#SoCS Nov. 26/16 – Pretty

Linda’s SoSC prompt this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “pretty.” Use it any way you please. Enjoy!

You know what? It’s been a pretty mad week.

School has kept me even more busy than usual these last few days. It’s been Observation Central over here!

On Monday my co-teacher was being observed, so I had to be the supportive side-kick (as always!). And she did fantastically, as I expected, getting Good, with a side note about supportive colleagues!

On Tuesday, I was observing my line manager, but not in the context of judging her. We are piloting a new scheme in school, Lesson Study, where you are put into teams of three, and plan lessons, which then are observed, but you pick three pupils and predict their learning curve over the lesson, then see whether the intended learning outcomes were achieved. It’s a pretty tough thing to do, especially as no one really knew what they were doing! And the third member of our team was sick, so it was just me observing the other member of my team. Even more interesting as I was off sick last week in the meeting where they planned the whole lesson!

Wednesday was my turn to be observed… Last year both our observations were done as tandem ones, where we were observed together, working as a team. This year the Head Teacher decided that we needed to be observed individually. So… this was my first solo observation! I was bricking it, no lie! After doing my input for the session, we got going. On one side I had one assistant making cupcakes, with a group. On another, I had the other assistant doing a shape activity, and going on a shape hunt. We had a regular volunteer in too who was starting the process of creating dough decorations with the children… not so good to look at yet, but eventually they will be pretty ornaments for their parents to keep forever! My co-teacher pottered in the background so she didn’t interfere in my observation, but kept the stray kids busy making shape monsters! And I floated around, seeing which kids had recalled the shape names we were learning, and observing them in play.

I haven’t had the written feedback as yet, but the verbal feedback was pretty positive, so I can breathe a sigh of relief!

Happy Saturday!!!
