It’s the weekend…
The academic year has started…
Oh yes the homework cycle is spiraling too!
Once again I’ll go from teacher mode to crazed mother, ensuring work is done on time! Lil Man has been awesome! 2 weeks in a row, he’s done he’s work within 2 days, even though he has a week to do it. I’ve sat by him and supported, but he’s been so independent!
And he had spellings, so we practiced, and the first test, he got 10/10! You go Lil Man!
So far, the maths has been OK, I hope they don’t go all ‘new curriculum’ on me… Maths was never my strong point!
Lil Princess was desperate for homework…strange girl!!!! And she got her wish this weekend, along with spellings too. Have you ever seen a child happy to do work?!?
Anyway, I just hope this year is the year I find myself able to relax, and merely be a support, not the activator of homework!!!!!!

My family knows not to ask me for help on homework. I may be a great teacher, however, I am not a patient, kind or understanding tutor. (i.e. what do you mean explain it… again????)

This is so hilarious to me. I’ve had numerous arguments with my daughter over HOMEWORK. UGH drives me up the wall!

Love the cartoon. I wish there was less pressure on homework, some kids are burdened for hours each night…seems so wrong to me. They need a life outside of school. They need to play. ☺

I understand once they get to secondary school, but then they can manage and organise and take responsibility, but beyond reading spellings and tables, I don’t think our younger ones should have anything more than an occasional project!

I’ve found that parents are sometimes teaching the lessons, instead of just reinforcing what kids should be learning in class. I’ve been on both sides of that issue, and there has to be some balance. ☺

Desperate for homework, you just might have the fictional character Hermione on your hands. Lol

Hmmm.. plusses and minuses on that one! LOL! Actually she loved doing the work, but then all of a sudden, her hand ‘was hurting’ And she didn’t want to finish… but we coaxed, and it got done! So not Quite Hermione, but a shadow of her!

Lol! Thanks! They can be huge terrors, as most children have the capacity to be, but when they are good, they are the sweetest little people alive!
I think I used to like homework too to be honest… Strangeness runs in the blood here!!!

I have no problem being there, helping, and being supportive, its when homework becomes a huge chore and is actually impossible for a child to do without their parents!

Yes, that is what challenged me too. Sometimes they needed to learn a poem or the times table. My daughter did not get that at times and it was nerve wrecking for both.

Yup…. The thing is, we could help them with work (read do their work!) but if they aren’t taking it in then what was the benefit?!

That’s exactly the problem. And as a mom you want your child be prepared. Not because you want a super student but because you don’t want them to have a gap somewhere.

I know. I’m rather impressed with them!!!!
For the spellings I found a great app, where I can record their spelling words, and they can test themselves, as much as they want, they win points for a little game on there too. It’s worded wonders!!!! Same app company do a times tables app too which is fantastic!
And luckily they both enjoy writing, so that is a bonus, most of the time!!

I showed some of the teachers and they are thinking of recommending the apps to parents, or even having them on some school ipads for children who may need more support!

I think our school managed a little policy to not give projects over Christmas at least!!! Reading maybe, but no biggies!!!! (Watch how that changes this year now I’ve said that lol!)
