It’s been a while, but Hugh has pulled out another prompt for his Weekly Photo Challenge – Stripes.
Read about it here.
My entry this time… it was something that came to mind as soon as I read the prompt.

My very own Karate kids
Those little high-kicking saucepan lids! *
I remember all the hype
About getting yet another stripe
They always did me very proud
And I would always cheer out loud
Another belt to show their skill
‘Hai-Ya’ing ‘til they had their fill!

*Saucepan Lids – Rhyming slang for Kids
It took me back to the days when my kids were studying MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and the dreaded gradings would come, with them waiting anxiously to find out whether they had progressed to the next belt or not!
They did really well, until we had to stop, due to my job commitments meaning I could not take them to the classes anymore…
Lil Man got to Yellow belt, not even stripes anymore, and il Princess was on her Green Stripe belt. Maybe one day, we can get them back into it!

Your stripes are all the more beautiful because of the hard work your children put into achieving them.

What a great take on the prompt Ritu, and as usual, you have written a brilliant poem to go with it! Hopefully the kids will be able to go back to it one day 🙂

Oooh, this took me back to my Judo days, Ritu. A very long time ago and I think I only managed getting to a yellow belt.
You’ve come up with a great poem, yet again, to go with the photo for the prompt.
Hong Kong Phooey had nothing on me, but I loved his kicks 🙂

Aw that is so sweet of you to say! You know, no matter how busy I am, I need this outlet too! My mum actually says that since I started blogging regularly I seem to be a much less stressed, and chilled person, so it must be good for me!

You’re right! We all need something that provides a creative outlet. It’s so great that you’ve been more relaxed since you began blogging. It must suit you! 🙂
I think the thing that’s wonderful is the feedback we receive from one another. It helps to remind us that we’re part of a community that cares. 🙂
