Song Challenge (Music That Means Something) Day 3 Imagine – John Lennon

A thank you goes out to fellow blogger and friend, Lisa, for nominating me for this fun challenge. The rules are:
Post a song a day for five consecutive days.
Post what the lyrics mean to you.  (Optional)
Post the name of the song and video.
Nominate 1 or 2 bloggers each day of the challenge.

Today I think I’ll choose Imagine by John Lennon.

I remember the time I first really got to know this song, and to consider the lyrics. We were singing it at a concert on my 6th from. I was around 16 or 17. The words really struck a chord, and as the years have gone on, they seem all the more poignant.

If only there was more peace in the world…  I know it is something that we all wish, but not something easy to accomplish given the present global situation.

Still, we can enjoy this beautiful song together at least, and hope that one day it will happen.

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

And today I nominate my Brother Syl and the musical maestro that is Rob.

Unfortunately this song has now become a cliche. We’ve heard it so many times the words go over our heads. That’s why I prefer his Instant Karma.

This is definitely one song that says so much to so many people. If only we could put the words inot action! 🙂

Beautiful song. Ironic how peaceful a man Lennon was and how violent his life was taken.

One of the best songs ever, Sis! The lyrics still have that magical prophetic power! Let’s live in that imagination… we can only win!

Timeless and important. I passed on this challenge, but this would have been one of my choices as well. Thanks, Ritu.

Wow, beautifully put. This song has a lot of people reaching out to their neighbours. Beautiful, well crafted and John admitted years later it was based on a poem by his second wife Yoko Ono.
