Friday Floss #Floss #SwishSwish

Right, let me start by saying I am not talking about dental floss – though as a retired dentist, I’m sure my Pops would be so proud if I was extolling the virtues of regular flossing and inter-dental brushing for the health of your teeth!

giphy

I’m talking about that new dance craze that the kids are all going mental over.

That move that seems a bit of an impossibility…

giphy (1)

Yup, that one!

Katy Perry’s Swish Swish song has got the Floss kid going strong!

Now, I count myself as a pretty good dancer… I can try my feet at pretty much any move (not saying I can do them all!) and I’m pretty good at hip swivelling too.

But this one got me foxed…

Lil Princess has been ‘flossing’ (sorry again Pops, not the dental type again!) for a while now, and she makes it look so easy!

The other day fellow blogger and teacher, and all-round good sport, Fatty McCupcakes posted on her Facebook Bad Teachers Group about her class all being obsessed with this move, and how she basically did her back in trying to learn how to floss!

Well, last night we had our school disco – well, two discos – one for the younger lot and one for the older ones.

The first one was great, dancing to the Macarena and jumping around with 4-7-year-olds is just my thing!

The second one was cool too – I got to be there, embarrassing my daughter!

But the crowds of 7-11-year-olds flossing was getting me down! (Again – Pops, don’t get excited, there weren’t groups of children conscientiously clearing the gaps in their teeth collectively!) And one of the younger members of staff (she’s like 21, or something, a mere babe, and not much older than the kids!) was able to floss, so she showed me, as only a teacher can do… and I got it!

I was so excited! I flossed with the best of them! I couldn’t go at the speed of some of the kids, but hey, I got the move, got the idea, and was so pleased with myself!

Lil Princess was well impressed, rather than embarrassed, that her friends were coming up to her and saying “Your mum can FLOSS!!!”

She even challenged me to a Floss-Off when we got back home!

And you say you want proof? Here!

See! Told you I can do it!!

But I have to say, my back doesn’t half ache now!!!!!!!!

Still, it felt like a great workout, and I shall try and keep my flossing, both dental and dancing, up regularly!!!!

Have a fantastic flossing Friday Peeps!

Should I try this? flossing in the ~late 50s, may add this to my daily workout routine. This requires thinking…. where do I find me a floss teacher?

Okay, so I saw this for the first time on Katie’s post, and now I’m seeing it here. You both have me intrigued. I’m going to challenge my kids and husband to a floss-off this evening. I’ll try to remember to report back. Oh, and BTW – nice flossing, Ritu!!! ❤

I can’t believe that this child has been riding his fifteen minutes of fame for so long! It’s a been at least a year of him being everywhere! So the lesson is to create something that only you can do well and fame will follow! And you did a great job learning that dance!

You did it! Oh my God! You flossed! I didn’t even know it had a name. My son does it and he is an expert at it. It gets on my nerves b/c we will be having a normal conversation and in mid-sentence he just breaks out into this dance. WTF? I am so proud of you. I don’t think I’m coordinated enough.

I don’t have a daughter so I have never heard of flossing before, Ritu, but I did do my shoulder in bowling to my eager beavers.

I have a third grader, but I have never heard of FLOSSING! I love it and now want to do it all the time. Good for you for making a go of it. As soon as my back heals up a bit, I will be embarrassing my child on as many occasions as possible by dancing the floss. All the place…kitchen, living room, grocery store…the possibilities are endless!

Well this is a new one to me..and one this poor old 40 something won’t be trying!! It does take me back to primary school discos and embarrassing my kids – Reach for the Stars was always a huge favourite, plus various Glee routines!! Now my lot are into indie and folk, so not much disco dancing going on here ha, ha, ha!! Do some flossing for me too, Ritu!

WTF…flossing?? Say again…dancing..really…your dear pops must be smiling wisely outside and despairing internally. I fear I’d need a chiropractor after attempting this particular craze…just hand me the floss and I’ll sit quietly cleaning tooth gaps 😳

Ow! That dance is cool looking, and probably fun to do once you get the rhythm of it, but my back hurts looking at it!

I never got the hang of flossing. Some of my teeth were too close together and trapped the dang flossing string for that matter. Until I bought a water flosser and could use a pulsed water jet to take care of those little chunkettes trapped in my teeth, I never truly had teeth clean of debris.

Mahnifiscent! A youtube star! I tried this for a few minutes and decided 60 is pushing it … to floss you need either teeth or flexibility and I only have one of these. I feel a bloggers bash floss off coming on 📼🎧🎤🎼👀👍
