Brotherhood of the World Blogger Award

Thanks to Rachel, for nominating me for the Brotherhood of The World Blogger Award! I have accepted this award before, many moons ago, so I would like to share her post, and, because I do like answering questions, I shall answer those!

  1. What is your biggest regret? I cant put it out there in public, but put it this way, it impacts on my life EVERY day!
  2. What is something that your younger self would be most proud of about you? That I actually published a book!
  3. What is your favourite fruit and why? Mango, because it is sweet and exotic, and just all over yummy!
  4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be? (Or what instruments can you play?) In the past, I’ve learned how to play the Recorder, Guitar and Piano! I can bash a beat out, amateurishly, on a Dhol drum too! I wish I had more lessons on the Guitar and Piano though!
  5. What setting from a book or movie would you like to live in or experience? Obviously the edible world in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!!!!
  6. Why did you start blogging? Purely by chance! A friend started, and I wanted to comment on her first post. WordPress invited me to start a blog, and I did, not knowing what it was… and the rest, as they say, is history!
  7. What is something you are looking forward to? Seeing my parents this weekend!
  8. If job availability/ money were not factors, what would be your dream occupation? A full-time children’s storyteller and writer!
  9. If you could start any charity what would it be? It would be something to help disadvantaged children!
  10. Name a skill you want to learn and why. I’d love to learn tact. Nuff said!

The Autumn Tag

Another day, another tag!

Thank you to Rachael of the blog Rachael’s Thoughts for thinking of me for the Autumn Tag! I know it’s late – winter is fully upon us, but hey, where there’s a tag, there’s a way!

There were no rules as such, but some autumnal questions to answer so I thought, what the heck! I may as well, and I will leave this as an open tag for anyone to join!

What signifies autumn to you?
Autumn for me starts when the leaves start to change colour on the trees. When the evenings start to draw in and you feel the need to wear cosy jumpers!

What is the best way to spend a rainy day?
Definitely, the best way to spend a rainy day for me would be with my snuggly robe on, sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea and a good book!

What is your most fond autumn memory?
Taking my children out in the park with areas full of fallen leaves, and watching them kicking the leaves about, and enjoying every moment!

What is your favourite autumn scent?
I’m not sure what scent I would consider as autumnal, but as you get to the end of autumn, and winter is starting to move in, the seasonal scents, like cinnamon, are extremely pleasurable!

What are you most excited about this autumn?
Autumn has been and gone for us this year, but to be honest, as a teacher I look forward to the October holidays the most!!!

What is your favourite autumn song?

I don’t have a favourite autumn song but can I count November Rain by Guns n Roses?

What is your favourite autumn film?
When Harry Met Sally! Lots of autumnal walks, and can you believe that I only watched this a couple of years ago for the first time!?!

What TV show are you looking forward to this autumn?

I’m not a great TV watcher so I have to say I’m not too fussed about any particular shows! But then again, this year I was a bit obsessed with th UK X-Factor, and was so excited that my favourites won!!!

What is your favourite autumn colour?
Autumnal colours as a whole are my favourite shades!!! I love the whole browns and caramels, and copper jewellery.

What is your most-loved outdoor autumn activity?
I don’t do outdoor! But at a push, walks in the parks are passable!

What is your favourite autumn fashion trend?
Layering up different autumnal shades, when I get a chance to get out of teacher clothes. I used to have a fav chocolat brown furry hat…!

Name one place you wish you could visit during autumn?
I have to say that isn’t something I have ever thought about, but I’d love to, given a chance, visit my sister in law’s summer house by the lakes in Finland! The scenery looks so beautiful from all the photos I have seen, it would be spectacular with all the beautiful autumnal colours!

What is your favourite photo you took last autumn?

When Sonu Sing Met my lil niece!!!! A wonderful sunny yet cool autumnal day surrounded by my favourite people!

What are you being this Halloween?
I don’t really do dressing up for Halloween, but this year we had a school disco so I was a black cat!

And as I said, if you fancy answering some questions, please, go ahead!!!

The Answers

1. What’s your favourite thing about Christmas? Spending time with my family
2. What’s your favourite Christmas memory? Seeing my parents both get a little tipsy! And the looks on our children’s faces when they have received the gifts they requested = priceless!
3. Are there special traditions your family has for Christmas? As a Sikh family, Christmas is not something we celebrate for a religious reason, but as a community time of peace, love and happiness. We generally try and follow all the general traditions, but will spice our dinner up with some Indian tastes!
4. What’s your Christmas wish? (Can be personal or general) Honestly, it’s for Peace, Love and Happiness, both generally, and for my whole family!
5. What’s your favourite Christmas dish? Pigs in Blankets!!!
6. What’s your favourite Christmas decoration? Gotta love a paper chain! But there are some special handmade ornaments on my tree which were made by my children which are extra special, and they come out every year!
7. What’s your favourite Christmas song? Winter Wonderland, more or less any version!
8. Where do you usually celebrate Christmas? As a child and growing up with my parents, nowadays we spend the day with my in-laws
9. What does the ‘Christmas Spirit’ mean to you? Being giving and charitable, spreading joy to those near and dear to you.
10. Who out of anybody in the world would you want to spend your Christmas with? I would love for a Christmas with my brother, sister-in-law and nephew, dearly, but as they are in Finland, it hasn’t happened yet… wouldn’t it be great to spend Christmas near Lapland, with Santa and all that snow?!

Five of the Best Children’s Books – #BookTag #MondayBlogs

Huge thanks to Jennie at A Teacher’s Reflection for passing this particular tag onto me.

I have been tagged to nominate my top five children’s books. Only five??? Really???  But I love to read children’s books to both my own children and my classes!

There are so many books, both picture and chapter, which I could include on this list!

I decided to choose five picture books which I love to read to my classes every year. Books that give me joy, as well as to the listeners! Some are older, some are newer, but all are wonderful stories! I only wish I could read more complex texts to the class, but with the high level of English as an Additional Language in our class, it would go over their heads, so pictures work so much better for them!

Mr Big – Ed Vere

Such a lovely story about not judging a book by its cover. I usually read this one and accompany it with a “Bom Ba Bom Ba Bom” kinda bluesy beat… Poor Mr Big always scares everyone with his appearance, but he is just the most wonderful musician, and when his talents are discovered by others, they realise it’s not what he looks like but what he can do that they should be looking at!

Monkey Puzzle – Julia Donaldson

Where would this list be without Julia Donaldson?! I could mention so many of her books like The Gruffalo, the rhyming cadences a pleasure to read aloud, and the illustrations by Axel Scheffler so appealing to children, but this has to be my favourite! I like to sing parts of it to the “Hus Little Baby tune, as the words have been written in that rhythm. Such a lovely book to get the kids involved, guessing which animal is being described!

I’ve even made all the characters, and used them in a display at the back of my classroom!

The Hungry Caterpillar – Eric Carle

Eric Carle is another author I just couldn’t leave out of this list! We use The Very Hungry Caterpillar in several year groups as a key text, but it lends itself to the Early Years so well, with wonderful illustrations and a fun way of teaching life cycles! The children enjoy watching the transformation!

The Day The Crayons Quit – Oliver Jeffers

This is relatively book that is fun to read to the children. It is great for getting them to think about the use of different colours, and an excellent way for them to try and recall the colour names! I even have the sequel!

Dinosaurs Love Underpants! = Claire Freedman and Ben Cort

The Underpants series was always popular in my house too, from the aliens to the monsters, and pirates with underpant fixations! But the most popular has always been the Dinosaurs Love Underpants edition! Another colourful rhyming book which captures the interest of the children in Nursery every time as they all seem to love dinosaurs!

Rules:
1. Thank whoever’s nominated you and share their blog link.
2. Let us know your top five children’s books.
3. Nominate 5 people to do the same.
4. Let your nominees know you nominated them.

I am going to be extremely naughty here and not actually nominate anyone, as I know how busy you all are, but I open the invitation for you to post about your choice of five Children’s books and link back to me if you feel like it!

The Mystery Blogger award | Actually Anna – Thanks Anna!

Thank you Anna for thinking of me for this award!

I have been lucky enough to receive this before, but I would like to share your post as thanks, and I will answer your given questions!

Did you ever attend a blogger event and which one (if not which one would you like to attend)?

Oh yes I did! I have been lucky enough to attend the Annual Bloggers Bash Awards in London the past two years and I aim to be there for the next one too! It was awesome to meet some of the bloggers who I admire so much!

Do you have pets and what kind of pets are they (if not would you like a pet)?

I have the wonderful Sonu Singh, our Punjabi cat, and my parrotlet pair, Heer and Ranjha!

What are you most proud of?

My children, Lil Man and Lil Princess – fur and feather babies included!

What is your favourite blogpost and why?

I have been asked this before, and I really don’t have a favourite blog post! So many of them strike a chord as there was a reason why I felt compelled to write them!

If you could stock up one thing for a lifetime supply what would that be?

It would have to be Maltesers Chocolate!

Thank you again Anna!!!

I haven’t done much Blogger Awards/Tags in a while. When Jasmine from Thoughts From Jasmine nominated me for The Mystery Blogger Award, I thought I’d do another one. I really like the t…
