#WritePhoto – Crow

Sue’s #WritePhoto Prompt this week:

I thought I’d continue the adventures of Barbie and Ken.

“One for sorrow – two for joy. Two, two, come on I need two… Oh Jeez, Joey, this isn’t a good sign.” Ken was looking frantically around the park.
“What are you going on about bruv?” Joey took his shades off and checked the colour of his torso. It had been a long time since he’d attempted a tan the traditional way in Essex. Usually, he kept his Marbs colour topped up at the spray tan booth, but there was an unexpected heat wave, and he wasn’t about to lose the chance to get a bit of British sun too.
“I need to see another one. Can you find one? You know, one for sorrow, two for joy? That rhyme they say about those birds, you know, like that one over there?” Ken’s eyes darted around the trees fencing the green. ” I need all the help I can get with me and Barbie at the moment, and I can’t be seeing no ‘one for sorrow’, not today. I need joy. I need two. I need a sign!”
“Erm, Ken, mate, listen. I know what you mean, but before you get all stupid about this, that ain’t no magpie you’re looking at, anyway… it’s a crow!”
“Is it?! Oh God! What does that mean, when I see none?!”
Joey rolled his eyes at his henpecked pal, lowered his sunglasses and lay back to soak in a few more rays…

#WritePhoto – Window

Sue’s #WritePhoto Prompt this week:

I thought I’d continue the adventures of Barbie and Ken.

“It’s beautiful Ken!”
Barbie gazed out of the window, focusing on the scarlet bloom in front of her.
“Where did you find this place?” she enquired.
“Oh, someone recommended it, said it was a great romantic getaway, and I thought, you know, we needed a bit of time away from the rest of the gang.” Ken was feeling quite pleased with the hotel actually. It was all old buildings and four-poster beds – old skool luxury. Okay so it wasn’t a palace with turrets, but he was pretty sure Barbie would like it.
“Someone? None of your mates would know anything about romance! Can you even imagine Gaz taking Mitzy here? And Joey, well, he’s never had a girlfriend!” She tittered to herself.
“No, Sindy mentio-” He stopped, realising he’d uttered the one name certain to start World War 3.
“Sindy? Sindy? Really?! So, when did you and that tart become such good friends that you started exchanging ideas for romantic getaways?” Suddenly, this room started to feel suffocating.
“Babe, come on, it’s not like that! She’s only trying to help…” Digging himself into a deeper hole, Ken continued, ” she was asking about us the other day, and said she wanted to help-”
“Help? Really? Help with what? Have you been complaining about me? Oh My God, Ken! Sindy? Of all people!”
Ken turned to the window, tuning out the string of compaints flowing from Barbie’s mouth. That rose appeared to be drooping…

#WritePhoto – Blue

Sue’s #WritePhoto Prompt this week:

I thought I’d continue the adventures of Barbie and Ken.
“Ken, what’s up? you’re looking a bit blue?”
Sindy siddled up to Ken, who was stood, leaning against the barriers, looking out over the river.
“What? Oh nah, I’m fine. Just chillin’, you know.” He stepped back, trying to put a little distance between himself and the brunette bombshell who had caused enough strife between him and Barbie already.
“I saw you and Barbie looking a little stressed out the other day, in the bar? Everything okay?” She put her hand on his arm, and gave it a reasurring squeeze. Instead of lifting it straight away, she let it rest there.
Ken tensed under her touch. He looked around. Knowing his luck Barbie was watching him, and she’d misconstrue this meeting too.
It had taken him hours to convince her that there was nothing going on between him and Sindy. No amount of Prosecco helped.
He lifted Sindy’s hand off his arm. “Yeah, all good. Never better, yeah.”
“Well, if you ever wanna, you know, talk, you got my number…” Sindy looked at him, winked, and strode off.
Now, what was that all about? Ken shook his head. He’d never get women…

#WritePhoto – Thaw

Sue’s #WritePhoto Prompt this week:

I thought I’d continue the adventures of Barbie and Ken.
She stood at the bar window, looking out over the snow dusted landscape, wishing it wasn’t melting so fast.
“Babe, it’s a shame you couldn’t sort the snow out… I really wanted a white Christmas this year!” Barbie turned to her long-suffering boyfriend Ken.
“Did you see on Instagram, how much snow the others had in Scotland? And this…sludge… is what we get.” She pouted like a 3-year-old.
Finally sensing a thaw in her icy treatment of him, after the episode last week, when he’d not been waiting for her at the sports bar, rather, he’d left her waiting whislt dreaming of other women, Ken grasped the chance to get back into her good books.
“I’ll just check the weather app on my phone, Babe… Let’s see what we can do.” Ken wandered over to the bar to get himself a pint, and a Prosecco for the lady, and to figure out what to do.
Seriously? She wanted snow now? In the middle of Essex? That idea of the undemanding Sindy as his girlfriend was seriously appealing…
As if the cosmos had been listening, the door to the bar opened and in walked Sindy and her friends. They piled in, bringing a gust of cold wind with them.
Sindy spotted Ken and came rushing over, kissing him on both cheeks. “Hiya Ken darling! How are you? Been let off your leash then, have you?” She winked at him.
He looked over at where Barbie was standing, no longer looking out of the window, but in his direction, the ice forming in her eyes once more, as she surveyed the scene; her man surrounded by ‘bimbos’ and one with her arms slung over his shoulders.
“Er, ha ha, yeah, funny Sind. Listen got to go, drinks are getting warm. See you round!” Ken grabbed his pint and the bubble filled flute and rushed back to his very own Ice Queen…
Sindy watched him retreat, and noticed the look on Barbie’s face… Hmm. Trouble in paradise?

#WritePhoto – Mists

Sue’s #WritePhoto Prompt this week:

I thought I’d continue the adventures of Barbie and Ken.
Ken sat staring out across the fields, deep in thought, as the sun began to set. Mists clouded his vision, as the hours passed, so he closed his eyes and began to ponder…
Did she really love him, or was she taking him for a total fool? He wracked his brains daily, trying to fulfil her every need and dream, and nothing was ever enough…
Maybe it was time.
Time to join his boys back in the dating ring.
There were plenty of other girls out there; take Sindy, she was always giving him the eye. Sweet, simple Sindy. She looked like the appreciative type. She’d love all his attempts at showing his affection.
“Ken! Mate! Wake up!”
“What?!” Joey hadn’t been with him under the tree? Ken opened his eyes in confusion.
“Mate, you are red as a lobster, man!” Slowly the mist-like steam cleared and the silhouette of his best mate became clearer. “You know you’re only meant to be in here for, like, half an hour at a time! You’ve been sat in here for 3 hours!”
It all came back to him… They’d come to the gym for a workout, and sauna, and were meant to be meeting the girls for drinks in the bar after.
“And you need to get your skates on… Barbie’s screwing out there! She’s been waiting for you for the last 20 minutes!” Joey left the sauna, and more steam escaped with him.
Barbie? Kept waiting? Oh man, he was really going to get it in the neck tonight!
