But I Smile Anyway…

Finally, after what seems like an age, our new bed is arriving today!!

2 years ago I was hellbent on getting a new base, an ottoman style one so our storage would be more… Hubby Dearest said to take our time, do some research, find a few and lets look into them. But I wanted one now Now NOW!

(Well, can I say, in hindsight, Hubby Dearest was right… But please don’t tell him!!!)

The base arrived… Flat packed… First alarm bell rings… And it was a lovely looking thing on the picture, so surely it wouldn’t be too bad? Right! There were hydraulics to attach so the slat base went up and down with ease.. Oh, and there was a slat base to put together too! I managed it all. And in theory it was lovely… Fitted all my spare blankets and duvets in there, and some clothes I didn’t use regularly. But once the mattress was on there, it wouldn’t stay up!!

Stubbornly refusing to tell Hubby Dearest that it was not working correctly, I made sure there was nothing under there that he would ever need to get himself, and spent two years struggling, quietly with the up and down of this thing! Then a few months ago, I realised I was sinking, slowly… The wood on the inside had split, and my side of the slat base was going down!!! Uh oh!!!

So we really needed a new bed! The matters was old too, so we thought let’s go the whole hog. I still wanted an ottoman (stubborn, see!) but I found out that it was an ottoman DIVAN, not a slat base that we needed. Cool! We found one, waited a while, researched a bit, then went out to place the order. En route we stopped at another shop, and peeked in.. Found an even better bed base and mattress too, so we ended up going for this.  It should have been a simple procedure, the guy who showed us, and sold the bed was fantastic, until another lady in there, who previously had shown us 2 mattresses, decided we were her customers, and that he was stealing her customers, intervened.

So she took the order, couldn’t be too specific about delivery, but assured us we would have our bed within 2-3 weeks. A week later, she calls to say sorry it would be at least 5 weeks.. The company was out of stock!

And at this stage I was sleeping with my head well below my foot level, and we NEEDED the bed ASAP! After a lot of phone calls, Hubby Dearest managed to arrange a loan base at least, so we weren’t on a mattress in the floor.

Well earlier this week, after MANY more calls, we got the call that our new bed was ready to be delivered on Saturday! Yippeeeee!!! So when will they pick the loan base up? Erm, they didn’t know…

Now our house is fine for us, but we don’t have a spare room, so where would we keep it?! After explaining that it was no problem, we could leave it outside for them to pick up whenever, Hubby Dearest convinced them to come get it the day the new bed was coming.

I told the lady I wanted it picked up first thing, as I have things to do, and the bed was arriving after lunch, so she said fine, and confirmed they would be there… At 8am… On a Saturday morning! That’s no problem for me, Lil Man gets up early, but it was a travesty for Hubby Dearest, for whom sleep is most precious! So anyway, I’m up early today, and getting breakfasts ready, when the bell rings at 7.45am… OK, so at least they weren’t late I guess!

Now off to get the grocery before the bed finally arrives….. It better be worth it after all this!!!!

Hubby Dearest has assured me that as of now, I WILL not railroad him into any further major purchases… That I need to exercise patience… So he can do the needful, before ordering things… Like checking reliability of companies etc!!!

Of course I looked down, and said ‘sowwy’, and of course he will get the last say on everything… But he didn’t see my crossed fingers!!!
