Men, Women and Children

Have you heard of this film?

I haven’t but don’t be surprised, I seem to wallow in classics, and kids movies most of the time so I miss great new releases and catch them up when they are deemed classic!

Anyway, back to the review in hand. I was browsing the Sky Plus On Demand service and this was on so I thought why not, and I am glad I did.

A film revolving around the online world, social media, gaming and technology and RL (real life).

It showed the amount of interaction people had via devices, rather than face to face, and how you could go from being innocent, and think you’re helping, to being controlling, and losing your child’s respect.

There was a mum who wanted to be an actress, but never did, who took over her child’s ambitions, and set up a seemingly innocent website of her girl, which ended up getting exploited, and the big message there was that whatever you put online is there forever, you might shut down an account or site, but all it takes is one download onto someone else’s device for something you posted to come back to you…

There was the mum who was so overprotective that, though she let her child use the various social media sites, and a mobile, she had the whole set tracked, and she would ‘clean’ her girl’s activity daily… a tad over the top… but I can understand to an extent why she felt the need…

And her daughter who was fed up of being spied on by her mum…

Then you had the boy who lost all interest in RL and gave up a successful football career to start gaming, and his interactions and thoughts became dark…

The girl who looked to the Thinspiration sites to lose weight so she could attract the popular boy…

The couple who were in a stale relationship, and they both found pleasure via an online route, that became very much real..

Then their son, who from a young age was so used to looking at porn, that when the time came for him to actually put his knowledge into practice, couldn’t do anything as his over exposure to inappropriate sexual content had retarded his ability to react normally to a girl of his own age.

It all made me think… it really made me think about my children, and what they see, or what they might see/do on the internet, when they are given more freedom.  I guess to some extent we are lucky.  As parents in this day and age, we probably are more au fait with what is on the net, and how things work, but when we were younger, our parents probably wouldn’t have had a clue.

It is our responsibility to educate our kids as to what is right and wrong, what is appropriate or inappropriate, and also to get their trust so they don’t feel we are snooping, but that they are able to happily come to us with questions, and to check whether things are actually ok.

My children are young, but they are growing up. I have a 10 year old who, at the moment, still thinks girls smell, but that wont last for long, he’ll be in secondary school before you know it, and exposed to all sorts that we can’t control, so it’s up to us to make sure he understands what is ok, and  what isn’t.

I do recommend watching it, it will make the cogs in your mind turn a little harder, and probably make you wonder what your kids are watching/doing/who they are talking to straight away!

But I Smile Anyway...

The First -Tidbit Tuesday (18+)

What is more exciting?

Your first, first time, or your first time with the love of your life?

Granted, there will be some of you, for whom the encounter is one and the same, but there are plenty out there who will have tested the water once, twice, three times… Or maybe a good few more!

The nerves of that first time, the fumbling, the uncertainty of whether you’re doing the right thing… Does that even fit there?!? Your confidence isn’t necessarily that great, and possibly, the location may not be conducive to leisurely love-making. There may be the element of secrecy, a clandestine meeting, because you were very young, and not deemed ready yet for this kind of step in your relationships. If so, it’s likely to have been a quick, momentary union. Or due to the inexperience, possibly the male half couldn’t contain himself, and well, things end prematurely.

Then there is the time you are with your soulmate, the person you would give your all to.  If you have already had experiences, you are able to control yourselves, pace yourselves, savour each and every moment. Take each step slowly, from the kisses, and the tender caresses to parts of the body that are already exposed…the ears, the neck, to the face… Exploring each other, as your layers drop off one by one. You know how to tease, to tittilate to the maximum effect, and when you are in that all-consuming embrace, you know how to bring yourselves to the edge of no return, time and time again, before becoming one, truly.

What is more memorable?

Your first, first time, or your first time with the love of your life?

A Thankful Mention 💜

It’s been a little while since I did one of these, and I have to confess, I’m not in a position to correctly accept an award right now, due to personal commitments… i.e. Being a mum in the holidays! 24/7 hour job at the best of times!
However, I still wanted to give a shoutout to Sandra over at A Momma’s View, for thinking of me. She, most deservingly, was nominated for 3 amazing awards, then passed on the awards to a bunch of us, allowing us to choose one or all the awards.

As I can’t do the whole thing, I can’t pretend to have accepted them, but I wanted to give Sandra a shoutout as she is a great blogger, mind if you haven’t followed her yet, I highly recommend you do!!!

I’ve even been featured on there with my ‘Couples Story‘ if you would like to read about how I met my Hubby Dearest!

But, thank you, lovely Sandra!!!! I really appreciate the thought! 😘😘😘

Thoughts on a Tuesday

wpid-fb_img_1439157421020.jpgThis is just me all over really! I have forgotten what that feels like!

I have to read, and once I am tired, yes I do fall asleep!  But the all night bit??!! Er, no! If its not the kids bugging me, it is the cat going loopy, and rushing around the house, intermittently coming into our room, and jumping onto the Sky TV box, and switching it on, most helpfully, at 3am!

The addition of little person(s) in bed can mean interesting contortions to fit on the bed, resulting in a bad back, so refreshed when I wake up???!!!! Again, ER NO!!!!

Have a great Tuesday Peeps!!!

Local Legends

Did you know that we have a true celebrity buried here, in my hometown?

Disney's Pocahontas

Disney’s Pocahontas

Yup, that there lady you see in the picture? The star of Disney’s Pocahontas?  She was no fictitious character but she was a native American girl, caught up in the Anglo-Native American hostilities in the early 1600’s. While captive, she converted to Christianity and became known as Rebecca, and when the chance came to go back home, she decided to stay with the English. She married John Rolfe, who was a tobacco planter, and they moved to England.

When she came over here, she was almost promoted as a ‘Civilised Savage’, by those hoping to get some more investment for their hometown, the Jamestown settlement.  She became quite a celebrity, and was even invited to Whitehall Palace for a function!

It appears that they were aboard a ship, bound for Virginia, when she fell ill, and they docked in Gravesend, Kent, where she died, of unknown causes.

She was buried here under the local church’s chancel in 1617.  We don’t know the exact whereabouts of her grave, as the original church burned down in 1727.  Since then a new church was build in the same spot, St George’s church, and there is a bronze statue to commemorate her life.

I was unable to go inside the church, as it was closed, but there is an amazing quilted tapestry inside, which shows the story of her life!

And what of John Smith?? You know, the blondie in the Disney film?

John Smith and Pocahontas in the Disney film

Well, yes he was real. And there was a connection between him and Pocahontas.  But it appears that the romantic relation that has been conjured up in the Disney film, and others made in the past, was a fantasy of the writers! Firstly, there was no relationship, bar friendship.  She would come to visit their Jamestown settlement regularly, and brought provisions and helped them, and secondly, if you look at the dates, it would be unlikely that she would have been old enough for any kind of affair with him!
