Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

weeeeeeSo, I managed to survive my first day with a member of staff down. We got cover help, thank goodness, and the children in the morning were fantastic!  Relatively calm, considering, and we were one down.. the Screamer didn’t turn up.

However….(you knew I was gonna say that!) the afternoon was a different matter altogether! It was crazy! The kids were fighting, there were tempers like you wouldn’t believe, the ‘sharing is caring’ motto is definitely not in full flow yet! And if it wasn’t arguments, there was children trying to tip things over, transporting sand across classrooms, and switching the class PC off!

Oh, and the toilet issue…. Not poopy nappies ( thought there was that too!) but one little lovely came up to me… “Me dun Poopy! In ma pats!”, quite happily! Great! No nappy, but poop in knickers, a wonderful experience!  At least she came to me before sitting down, and smearing (sorry for being gross!), then the other child, who is our serial poop offender, decided it was time to soil his pants!

My colleague came to me as I was changing the Poopy ‘pats’ and said “Does it smell of egg?” “Nope”, I said, “actually I don’t know its just plain old poopy smell!” So she went to the main part of the room and checked and her trained nose said that the smells were different hence another Poop!

So Serial Pooper was also changed.  I shall not say there was calm after that, as there really wasn’t, but the toilet issues seemed to calm, until one girl was far too engrossed in whatever she was doing and wet herself.  No problem, a quick change and all was ok.

Then one of my newbies came running up to me “Potty! Potty!” Now as an Indian I know that a lot of Indian children call number 2 wanting to go ‘potty’ so I was on high alert, not least because I know he was not long out of nappies, and when he had been taken to the loo earlier, he wasn’t wearing pants, let alone a nappy!  I was not prepared to chase runaway poops down a trouser leg, and all over the floor!  We rushed to the loo, and managed to sit him down, only for him to let loose with a number 1! No little appendage being pushed down, but a veritable fountain, and oh my goodness, how much wee can a 3 year old produce??!! Luckily I was not caught in the downpour somehow, and managed to grab him, and turned him around!

Oh, and did I forget to mention, I was also spat at!  Lovely child!

I have started the gentle words with parents regarding working together, and that they need to support us as much as we are there to support them. But it is not just the nursery’s job to make these kids ready for the real world… a certain degree of responsibility clearly lies with the parents!

One more day til the weekend Peeps! One more day!!!!!!

Of Nappies and Poop…

images5J27SK96The week draws to a close, well, the working week anyway. It’s been an eventful one. My first one with my little lovelies in my first ever proper class!

I can confirm that there is likely to be much blogger fodder from this experience, so I hope you are ready to join me on my ride!

We had tears… we had laughter…

we had screamers… we had fighters…

we had loners… we had cuddlers…

we had smilers… we had gigglers…

And being as they are 3-4 years old, it is inevitable that there are going to be toilet issues with the odd child…no I am not calling the kids odd!

But one is in a nappy still… and decided it would be great to fill his pants(nappy) one afternoon. Pleasant! It wasn’t bothering him, he doesn’t talk, but the smell, oh my the smell! And it took 2 of the staff to change him, as he wouldn’t lay down!!! Joy!

Today a child led us to the toilet. We thought they wanted to go. Approaching the cubicle, we saw a pair of shoes, a pair of trousers, a pair of itty bitty pants, and a full toilet… but no child. Uh Oh! Who was the commando child, and more importantly, where was he?

Playing with the others at the water tray, he was – quite happily –  in the nuddy waist down!

(Heaven knows if he washed his hands before joining in with the play, or wiped! EWWWW!)

And so my teaching week ended, on a high actually! Aside from 2 children, all were settled in already, this week, and we look forward to next week. Routine wont kick in yet, but we need to take baby steps, and they will get there, they always do, with love!

Roll on Monday! (But not too fast, a little down time would be good too!)

Deal with it!

images5X9EXBEXWell, update for the day…

Hey Peeps!

I sure hope you have had a smooth day!

I was all set to forget the crap of yesterday, and get on with today, fresh start and all, regarding my email issues, anyway.

Well… This morning, still no contact. This afternoon, still no contact. This evening, STILL no contact! I have contacted them around 8 times now using their contact form, and apart from once, they all say at the end that they will be in tough, VIA the account that is disabled! WTF???!!!

Even though I have given them the alternative email! And the phone number makes you go round and round then says they won’t deal with email issues on the phone, use the contact form!

Sorry Yahoo, you have lost one loyal user….

I have since, been desperately trying to get onto various email login connected sites, to change my primary email to my gmail one.  This, I think, is why I disappeared, or my face disappeared on my contact page, and on my comments, and also why you are having to moderate my innocent comments!

But at least I have secured my banking, and several other things.

And so to my day with the little lovelies… well, we had each group, morning and afternoon, for an hour without parents today.  It wasn’t as bad as I thought!

3 criers in the morning, but they were still ok. Humorous moment, when the little Chinese guy ran to mummy, and she was cuddling him, and tapping him, pointing at us and saying “Boobay! Boobay!” My colleague and I dutifully waved and said “Bub-bye!” too until we realised, after she said “No Boo bay!” pointing to the book bags that the children bring in. She wanted to take his home!  So not Boobay, as in bye, but Boobay as in Book Bag! Of course!

The afternoon heralded the arrival of the screamers! We had 2 boys crying, like they were in competition, but they seemed to stop after 10 minutes. A little girl was upset for about half the time, 30 minutes, until she went to the toilet, and then she was fine!

The hardest thing? Not being able to communicate with them all easily. I worked out that we have 4 English children in the morning, and 3 in the afternoon… the rest of the 40 are made up of Slovakian, Lithuanian, Polish, Albanian, African, and Punjabi, to name a few! At least I can communicate with the Punjabi children! 5 in the morning and 6 in the afternoon!

So, they went, relatively happily.  In fact most cried as they didn’t want to leave!

You think that was all?  Oh no, my IT issues did not end there.

Our WiFi is not working at school for some reason, and I have a specia app to use to log our children’s progress. I dutifully took photos of all the children this morning, to set their profiles up, then realised that the afternoon kids records were not there.

I came home where I have WiFi, and synced the app, only in order to lose the photos, but gain the afternoon kids names!

MAAAAYYN!!!!! This is just driving me crazy!!

One nice thing?  I think my paperwork is up to date, and my last class’s teacher has asked me to read her new class a story tomorrow, on their first day.  They are the children who were in nursery last year, and I feel touched that she would want me to read to them!

So, I am off to BREATH now!!

Take it easy Peeps! Luv Ya All!!

Bump!

Yup, I was back at school last week for training, days, but that wasn’t real… no, that was a peaceful school environment, with no children around… but as of tomorrow, term starts.

My children start a new era in their own lives. Lil Princess is no longer an infant, and will be a Junior now! And Lil Man starts Year 6, his last year in primary school! I can’t believe that… where did the time go? Before I know it, both of my kids will be in secondary school!

And I get to meet my new classes in Nursery officially tomorrow.  It’s going to be a set of taster sessions this week, an hour or so, firstly with their parents, to settle them in, then we go in full on. Yes I have met them before, one on one, but this will be different, as they are actually starting… some children literally turned 3 at the end of August, so they will be teeny weenies!

I am anticipating plenty of blogger fodder from this, so I hope you will get to enjoy my experiences too!

Have a great start to the week everyone!

I’m definitely off to bed now for an early night!!!!!

Count to 10…

Nope, not angry… I just made a display in my new classroom to help my nursery babies!
What do you think?
