#SoCS October 20/18 – Can

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “can.” Use it any way you like. Bonus points if you start and/or finish your post with it. Enjoy!

Can you believe it is nearly the end of October?

This year has whizzed by so fast, I can’t quite keep up!

I’ve experienced my second child hitting double digits, my firstborn becoming a teen, seeing my Pops fall very ill but recover amazingly, our family growing with my second Finndian nephew – so many amazing events!

I’ve had some wonderful get-togethers with friends an family, including the Annual Blogger’s Bash.

Big one – I FINISHED my first draft!!!!!

And I still have Diwali and our anniversary to look forward to, then Christmas too!

Yes. I mentioned that word.

Christmas!

More or less two months to go before the festive season is upon us.

I love Christmas. Maybe it’s because, being a teacher, the build-up to it is always electric, with nativity plays, and glitter-encrusted classrooms, as decorations and handmade cards are created.

So, how’s your year been? Let me know, and tell me something you still have to look forward to, if you can!

#SoCS October 13/18 – Precious

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “precious.” Use it any way you like. Enjoy!

So sorry for the late response (well, for me anyway!).

It was a busy evening last night, where I usually type up my SoCS piece ready to publish the next day, so I had precious little time to actually write!

But for good reason.

It’s really important to have that quality time with family, both your immediate, and your extended ones.

Last night, I rushed back after work with Lil Princess, and we cleaned the house from top to bottom (that’s my usual Friday routine, so the rest of the weekend is free!). Lil Man went to meet his mates for an hour.

We finished up and went to my in-laws to chill out with them, as though I see them every day after school, it’s usually a rushed pick up of the kids and a quick hello.

We chatted, then my Hubby Dearest, brother-in-law and his wife got back from work too. After a quick chat with them, we decided to get back to ours as the kids needed to eat and go bed.

It ended up being an evening of laughter, a time where more precious memories were made. My brother-in-law is so funny, I was laughing hysterically. I haven’t laughed like that in a ling time, you know, the whole-tears-streaming-down-your-face laughter.

And we decided to have a family day today, just the four of us, not the usual weekend of being sat at home, but getting out and actually doing something together.

The kids are getting older, it won’t be long before they are making their own plans with friends, and us parents are just a liability (for a while at least – I know you regain that respect and understanding of the importance of mum and dad when you get older, but as teens and tweens – we are just the ones that seem to say no a lot, and give out money when needed – personal cash points!) so it’s great to actually do things together.

Precious times.

#SoCS October 6/18 – Card

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “card.” Use it any way you like. Enjoy!

I love card.

I have a ton of it at home, craft card in all colours, weights and patterns, squirrelled away for all those home art projects, I never do.

It’s stored safely with the myriad pens, pencils, cutters, stickers, tapes, glues, glitters, sequins, etc that I have also collected along the way.

I also love cards.

Greetings cards: birthday, anniversary, new baby, new home, congratulations, wedding, condolence, just because cards.

I love them so much that I joined a monthly card scheme where a variety of cards were posted to me, cards for all occasions, then I had to stop as I gained a huge collection, then forgot to use them, buying others instead, whenever I needed one!

And don’t forget playing cards!

As a family, we used to play a lot in the evenings when I was growing up. We played various games, and I remember my mum not wanting to as she had been brought up to believe playing cards was not an appropriate pass time for young ladies!

Oh, there are also your bank cards, membership cards, loyalty cards, the cards that mean my wallet won’t do up, even there isn’t really any money in it!

Who doesn’t love a card!

#SoCS September 29/18 – Dom

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “dom.” Use it as a word, or find a word that starts or ends with it. Have fun!

Interestingly enough, the first word that came to mind was dominatrix!

Oo-er!

I do not know why that popped into my mind!!

Then the ad for Domestos bleach hovered around, with the jingle “Dom, dom, dom, dom dom!”

But I think I will actually go with the word freedom.

As a working mother, a teacher and a wife, I often pray for a little freedom.

You know, that time when you can do whatever you want to do, without someone clamouring for your attention, crying out for snacks, or a specific tee-shirt.

I long for the chance to have a ‘day off’ but as a teacher, I can’t take time out in term time, unless I am unwell. so all my holidays are taken with my own children constantly by my side… busman’s holiday indeed. A whole school year with hundreds of kids and then the vacation with my own two who can behave like a whole classroom full of lunatics themselves!

Freedom to get up whenever I want, eat what I want, go wherever I fancy, and write as and when I feel the urge… that kind of freedom!

Shall I tell you something really sad? Not as in boo hoo sad, but as in lame sad?

I can’t wait for next academic year’s May holiday.

Because for the first time ever, and due to the fact that we are now part of an academy, I will have a whole week off… that my own kids won’t have!

This year we have the two week holiday, but my son’s school only has one at that time, so I will have Lil Princess with me, but next year, as she will be at secondary, and quite possibly the same school as him, unless their school scupper my dreams totally and decide to change their own holiday schedule… They will still only have one week off, and I get TWO!!!!!

Quite possibly a whole FIVE DAYS with no kids during the day!

I am not going to wish my life away, and hurry the time along, but it is definitely something I am really looking forward too!

Only twenty months to go to relative FREEDOM!

#SoCS September 22/18 – Flour/Flower

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “flower/flour.” Use one, use both, it’s totally up to you. Enjoy!

Yes… this will definitely be a SoCS post today, rambling about Linda’s prompt!

If you recall (though you may not, as I know the Life of Ritu isn’t the most important thing in your life!), I was going to be walking a half marathon for the charity, Cancer Research UK in September.

Well, that day has arrived… today! And I shall be attempting my 13.1 miles walking the Shine Walk through Central London, with the wind and rain howling… and my six girls from my Tootie Frootie posse will be by my side!

You know a proper post will follow when I get the feeling back in my legs etc…!

I can pretty much guarantee that by the end I won’t be blooming like a spring-time flower, but more like a wilted stem from a 3-week old cut flower arrangement!

(See what I did there? Included flower!)

What will I do to celebrate the end (if I make it)?

Eat cake, chocolate, ice cream… anything I dang well like!

It’s been a long haul recently, trying to avoid all flour based carby foods, and I shall continue after, but I think after the walk, I’ll deserve a doughnut or ten! And if a greasy fry-up is in order the next morning, it wouldn’t be complete without a nice slice of buttered toast!

Okay, I need to go and sort myself out now!

Wish me luck!

Catch ya later Peeps! Happy Saturday!
