Day fourteen of #JusJoJan!

I’m going to try to write on each of the prompts!
Today the prompt is:
Your prompt for January 14th, 2018, brought to you by a new-to-me blogger, Itinerary Planner, is “Ultimatum.” Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Itinerary Planner at her blog, “Travel Itineraries: Travel the World for Less” (sounds good to me!) to read her post and say hi! Here’s her link: https://traveltinerary.com/
Thanks, Itinerary Planner!
Ultimatum
There are times in life when you reach a stalemate.
Things are going neither here nor there.
You are stuck.
Maybe it is within a relationship, or at work. It could be an argument with a friend or a landlord.
It could even be an internal issue, where you are almost battling with yourself and not able to make your mind up.
This is where an ultimatum could come into play.
That whole, “Right, either this, or that,” kind of choice, is sometimes the only way you can move forward in life.
Ultimatum – seems such a harsh word, but you probably use them so often, you don’t realise that you are doing it. To the kids ” Right, either you eat your broccoli or there’s no computer games tonight!”; to your partner “You drink that next beer, and there’ll be no nookie for you tonight!”.
Okay, so they are tame examples, but types of ultimatums.
The more serious ones, regarding a job, or a relationship, financial demands, live or die…. they are out there too.
Sometimes the only way to move forward in a situation is to issue an ultimatum, Or to be the one making the choice.
And often, the choice made may not be the one you were secretly hoping for, but once it’s done, there can be closure for that situation.
It can feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders…
See you tomorrow!

Thoroughly enjoyed your post on prompt word – ultimatum. My only caveat would be ultimatums once issued robs you of happiness, fleeting or prolonged.

They can… but equally they can be the key that finally sets you free from a situation in which you feel trapped, and until you stretch your wings, you never know that happiness.
Great prompt word by the way!

Definitely have to use ultimatums only when you will be able to carry out the “then.” Otherwise all they are are threats. Nice post, Ritu.

It may be a harsh word but at times it is absolutely necessary to be taken serious. I think of my youngest son. He is not taking responsibility for his future (apprenticeships, education,…) So we need to set him an ultimatum. If he doesn’t use the time we will decide for him. He needs to see that we mean it and that it is necessary and if he doesn’t go for what he wants (which we would support) we will decide and do what we think is best for him. Not funny, but otherwise all terms of application are passing and the chances of getting a place are gone!
