One Liner Wednesday – #1LinerWeds – Health Check

Please don’t tell me I’m overweight – I already know that!

Ritu 2019

A little background – the NHS are offering 5 yearly health checks for 40- 74 year olds. What is it?

The NHS Health check will assess your risks of:

And advise you on how to live a better, and healthier life.

I know my Pops has heart disease in his family, it runs high…

Mum and Pops are both borderline diabetic…

Kidney disease and stroke, not too sure.

But I know they will say “Erm, maybe try and lose a few pounds, and trim some inches off that waist.”

Don’t they know I’m trying?!

Still, let’s see what they say, I’m sat here speculating!

If you are in the UK and aged between 40-74, click here to find out how to get yours.

When I started my job however many years ago, a colleague and I helped run some health check clinics. She had to do the cholesterol checking though as I am squeamish..

Well done, Ritu! And very important. Your Pops problems might be hereditary, yet yours might be quite different. Hope the health check is a positive!

Haha – they’ll NEVER do this in America! What a good idea!

These health checks are a good idea, but it should be open to any age. As for the weight, when it goes off BMI and simple measurements I think it can be taken with a pinch of salt as it’s a guideline that’s not really very accurate or useful xx

Can’t you just go to your GP every year and get a checkup? That’s what we do … or forget to do in my case. 😛
Glad you passed! After a comment like that, I’d be eating a doughnut to celebrate. Haha!

Glad all is good for you Ritu.
Had my diabetes check on May first, and they checked bloods for full screening.
Liver and kidneys good, BP good, heart good, lungs clear, cholesterol up 0.2 on last year, likewise sugars up 0.2, weight up too but working on it (approx 11lbs lighter so far but only 8 and a half since re-joining SW on the 6th having lost a couple of pounds already). Basically doing OK, but no offer or mention of health check. I’m 63 so maybe in 2 years?

Glad you took advantage and went. I’ve been trying to figure out if our doctors ever surprise anyone when they tell us we’re overweight…it’s impossible not to be aware of it these days. Anyway, saw your response to Dan above — so glad it was good news!! Happy Wednesday.

If all the significant tests loook good, a few pounds wouldn’t keep me awake. You’re working on it, that should do.

Oh, this post has come at the right time!! Just been told I have high cholesterol and yep, the weight needs to come off – I KNOW!!!!! Do they think I’m happy lugging all this extra squidgy stuff around my middle? Do they honestly believe I’m happy to have two great huge melons in hammocks making my back ache? Thanks for sharing, Ritu x

      Tell me about it Shelley!!!
Though, I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Good cholesterol is high, bad is low, sugars are good, I have a 2.4% chance of a hearta attack or stroke in the next 10 years. They want people to be 10% or less.
The weight.. ah, yes, I am in the mildly obese (!) category, but with no worries, so I said I could reach for that next chocolate, with no guilt. My son, who was with me said “No mummy cos them you will get fatter and then it WILL become a problem!” Charming! But true, I guess!

Glad to read that the health check went well for you. I got a high cholesterol reading at my last physical so I am cutting down on sugar to try to get those numbers down. I don’t want to go on medication!

We have annual wellness screenings through work every year. Last year’s results were good for me except for one area – glucose, so I cut way back on the carbs and sugar. And lost 10 lbs. It’s not the yummiest way to lose weight, but those two things (sweets and pasta/waffles) have been my downfall. Keep trying, Ritu, and be healthy! 🙂
