Sue’s #WritePhoto Prompt:

“It’s no good, you know.”
“What?”
“Sitting there, moping.”
“I’m not.”
“Yes, you are. I can see it in your eyes.”
“What? What can you see?”
“Yearning.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It’s not coming back, son.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about Dad.”
“That boat. It was a most splendid boat. But it’s gone now…”
“It took me hours to fold it, Dad. I wanted to make the best paper boat ever.”
“I know. But it was exactly that. Paper. Once it hits the water, it begins to disintegrate. It’s not coming back now. Nevermind. You can make another.”
“Yeah, and this time, I’m not sailing it!”

Perfect life metaphor really. We spend ages putting heart and soul into things and it all ends up as pulp…

A tender moment between father and son. The supposed reality of the situation and the hopefulness held on too.

There you are Bro. You’d cut them out then cut the outfits, and put them on your doll!

That is thought-provoking in many ways, sis! Shall we never risk something because it could not work out or shall we think better before we make decisions… Another point where father and son can learn from each other. Great take, sis!!

Thanks sis. It just made me think of a couple of weeks ago, when we taught the children in my Reception class to make simple paper boats. They wanted to decorate them, and used their simple skills, with our help, to make the boats, and when they finally tested them, they ended up with soggy pieces of paper, and a huge pulpy mess in the water. Some got upset, and others were just excited to see that something they made actually had floated at first!

It must have been very interesting how the kids reacted differently. For sure that was very inspiring.
