Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 265 – Social Distancing Thoughts

img_00411

“Never put off til tomorrow, what you can do today.”

Thomas Jefferson

Hmmmm… thank you, Spidey, for another thought provoking quote.

You see, the thing is, there are so many things I’d love to do, but at the moment, I have no choice but to put off ’til goodness knows when, because of this cursed coronavirus.

Things that I think I’d like to do, then I realise I can’t actually do yet.

It got me thinking a little more…

Bucket lists.

Lots of people make them. But how many people actually action their dreams?

I haven’t really got one, as such, but I have dreams. Things I’d like to achieve, places I’d like to visit, things I’d like to learn.

As I sit inside, coccooned from the outside world, I have signed up to a few online courses to keep me sane. They’ll tick off a few of my hopes. I’ll get a certificate for writing. I’ll try and master calligraphy.

But what of the other things?

Before, they were thoughts, what-ifs and maybes.

Who envisioned that this craziness was around the corner? So many key days in peoples lives have been affected by the global pandemic. People’s weddings postponed, birthday gatherings cancelled, among other events.

But something I have learned already in this first week of lockdown, is that once we are able, we really shouldn’t put off things we really want to do.

If you really want to go somewhere, take the bull by the horns and book your trip (finances pending, of course!) Sign up for that course, learn a new sport.

Seriously, go, ride that dream to fruition!

So… tell me, what do you plan to do, once this is all over?

Have a peaceful Sunday, Peeps  And enjoy your week! ❤

We used to get caught up in the FIRE movement where people went to extraordinary measures in order to save a buck. But we learned a long time ago that it’s best to experience life now rather than wait until later because there are no guarantees we’ll have later. This virus which has put our lives on hold has solidified this mindset. Great post!

I love your words. Concise and relevant. I would love to take a photography trip to Switzerland.

I do hope that we can all see life in a different light when we come out of this on the other side. But I fear it will not last, humans being humans will just carry on in the same old same old!

Sis, i can teach you how scheduling is best. Take more than one calendars, plan your important things, spreaded of all the calendars. Then put them on to the shelf, and hurry up, when you are missing the first dates. Lol
Much more better is having more virtual calendars on the web.
Hope you and yours are well, and you have not started a chainsaw massacre. 😉 Best wishes, Michael

We have tickets for Greece and France in June…assuming that’s all gone now, so we vow to make this trip a reality in 2021, once this is all past us!

I do think you’re right that we need to move forward, now, and there are so many things we can do that don’t require us leaving the couch. Writing that novel–that’s my dream, and I’ve got to get back on it, this week. No socializing (other than agent queries) required!

What a great idea to take a course, Ritu. I love the advice not to put off those things we want to accomplish. My husband and I planned to travel in our retirement. Now we’re locked down in our living room and who knows what the future will bring. Wishing you much fun ahead and a long future of fulfilling your dreams. ❤

Maybe I’ll take my Bucket List trip to NYC I was scheduled for in March, WHEN this is completely over.

I like this quote because it is exactly what I am doing. And regarding the current situation, I am confirmed and glad about it. As you said, we don’t need to put everything off. Therefore this quote comes to my mind: “If you really want to do something you’ll find a way, if you don’t want to do something, you find excises.”
Today is my mom’s71st birthday and although we cannot celebrate the way it was planned it will be special. I made a cake and we made a funny photo story of our family which I printed and will hang on her window. We will put the cake in her garage, lighten the candles, go outside and then call her to take a look in her garage. We will sing happy birthday and talk from the distance. She doesn’t know anything about it and I believe that it will remain special because we made it special. Our creativity is asked a bit more these days.

Very nice, Ritu. Fortunately I don’t need to postpone my writing dreams, during this time, so I am just continuing with that as usual. Being at home hasn’t changed my life much as the boys and I continue to bake and cook together, do their work together and read together. I am working from home and have virtual meetings so I still talk to my colleagues. It is really business as usual for me, just with a bit more housework as our domestic helper has gone to her rural home for this period.
