TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge – Wing

I’ve written about Magpies before, and this week’s prompt from TJ for his Haiku challenge was a beautiful photo of a lone magpie, with an additional prompt word of Wings.

Whenever I see magpies, that rhyme is in my head, about what the future holds, depending on the amount of birds you see, so this inspired my Tanka-style Haiku this week!

Magpie spread your wings
Fly and find your other half
You need to be ‘two’
I don’t want sorrow today
I need a little more joy

#SoCS June 25/16 – Drink

For Linda Hill’s SoCS Challenge.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “drink.” Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!

SoCS badge 2015

I’m not really a drinker. I’ve got older, and the pull to drink has pretty much disappeared.

I’m no angel, I’ve tried my fair share of alcoholic beverages. I have experienced the feeling of being drunk (sorry Pops and Mum!), being merry, tipsy in a giggly way, to possibly a little more!

And now I’m at this age, I always thought that I could be mature enough to enjoy a glass of wine to ease stresses, if need be. Well, to be honest, I have never really felt that need, and if I was to have a drink, it would probably just put me to sleep, rather than relax me! I am usually too tired to contemplate a drink of the intoxicating variety! If I was to drink, I would want to enjoy the feeling, not curl up in bed!

My drink of choice would be a hot chocolate with whippy cream to be honest!!! (No wonder I have put on weight!)

Thursday photo prompt #writephoto – Door

I do love Sue’s photo prompts! She has given a beautiful door to work with this week. And I give to you, a poem made up of 3 tankas – a Trianka!

The Unknown…

What is it that lies
Beyond the ancient entrance
Cloaked in mystery?
A portal to a new world
Or simply another house?

Do you dare to look?
To turn that rusty door knob?
To push it open?
To force ageing joints to creak?
To quench your thirst for the truth?

But be careful though
You know not, what you may find
Like Pandora’s box
Could be a pleasant surprise
Or you may unleash a beast….

Funny, but as I wrote this, all that kept on going through my mind was the EU Referendum today! We were all faced with this dilemma… do we vote to stay, and stay on this side of the ‘door’, safe with what we know? Or do we take the risk, and push open that door, to see what lies beyond the confines of Europe?

See what your Referendum has done to my mind, Government?! It’s taken over my creative process!

There are so many after’s I could think of, but the most recent that I photographed was the ‘after’math at the Dessert Parlour Creams on Sunday!

I was dying to try this place out. In fact, there are two new dessert places open locally, so I know I have at least one more sweet treat to go!

Anyway, back to the point. This place was pretty fantastic, the decor was amazing, the menu was huge, and the service was wonderful!

They warned us that there was no such thing as kids size… And though I understand that, I wasn’t prepared for the size of the sundaes that we chose!

Out of 8 people, 6 of us ordered, and this is the beginning…

And I wonder why I’m steadily gaining weight…!

They were the size of the kids heads, honestly!

Now, let’s be honest, after a big meal at an Indian restaurant, there is not that much space left in tums for such large desserts, but hey, we had a good go!

And the ‘after’ shot shows at least 3 of the remains…

Mine at the front was more or less done (oops!) Lil Man had a good go of his Choc mint one, and Lil Princess had chosen an extra sickly Bubblegum and Strawberry one which she couldn’t finish! The other three… well they were definitely not totally empty!

And boy was I full afterwards! I was so happy that I had a mountain of ironing to do. There was no way I could sit or lie down! I had a pain in my side from overeating! But at least I got to try one of the dessert places!

(Note to self: next time, skip dinner, go straight to sweet!)

And for my little rhyme, to go with the photo…

Big  ice cream sundaes
Sure to give a sugar high
Calories taunting
A rush with every mouthful
But a tummy ache after!
