Chai And A Chat #19 #ChaiAndAChat

Well hello again Peeps! Have you got that drink ready? My chai is waiting!

  • If we were sipping chai together I’d tell you that the illnesses seem to have subsided, but there are still coughs and sniffles abounding. We’ve had other staff off sick, and on Friday, there were only 10 children at my afternoon nursery session!
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d tell you that work has been mega busy nevertheless, as, with staff shortages, it means a whole lot of juggling the human resource we have to fit the craziness of the timetable! But we coped. I’m writing this, aren’t I?
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d mention that I had an interesting conversation with my Headteacher… about my future… and hopefully soon enough, I can tell you what might be on the cards for teacher Mrs Bhathal, aka me!
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d excitedly tell you about a fantastic opportunity our school had, to have a Pantomime Dame, Mama-G, come and read a story to the children. Now, who wouldn’t want child-friendly drag queen to come and read to the kids? (S)he was brilliant too, reading a story, How To Be a Lion first, then reciting one of his/her own ones to the children, all about a boy who liked to twerk! It was hilarious!
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d tell you that we had even more birthdays to celebrate. This time it was my mother-in-law and Hubby Dearest. He was her 21st birthday present, and 42 years later, they are still celebrating together!
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d moan about orthodontic visits. We’ve had to hare over to the surgery twice over the last two weeks, for appointments for Lil Man. He was fitted with a removable device in October, but it was so uncomfortable, he was unable to keep it in, and refused to wear it. It took him a couple of months but he decided he’d rather have the fixed ones instead. The appointments were a flop. They were still trying to convince him to stick with these ones, but they would need to make new ones at a cost of £70 to me… We have 6 weeks to help him make a decision as to which one he’s going to go for…
  • If we were sipping chai together I’d excitedly tell you that my brother and his little family are coming over in May and I am stoked as I finally get to see my baby Finndian nephew #2. He’ll be nearly 10 months by then, but finally! I can’t wait to give him the huge aunty cuddles that have been accumulating! And my #1 Finndian nephew too! Such a cutie, growing fast and chatting away in his Finnish/English hybrid mix! May can’t come fast enough!
  • If we were sipping that chai together, and possibly reaching for cake or cookies I’d tell you that we have a crazy trip due this weekend, arriving in Leicester for 9,30am, which means waking at the crack of dawn, and leaving by 6.30am from here, but the saving grace is that we will stop off and spend the night with Pops and Mum!
  • If we were sipping that chai togetherand possibly reaching for cake or cookies I’d tell you that I am soooo looking forward to Friday. The kids finish school on Thursday and we have a staff training day which is being held by Andy Cope, of The Art Of Being Brilliant fame. We had a workshop by him in September, and it was, honestly, life-changing for me. If you want to read a little more about it, I posted here.
  • If we were sipping that chai together, and possibly reaching for cake or cookies I’d add that half term break also starts for us on that Friday -Yippeee!! Can’t come soon enough!!

Have a wonderful week Peeps! Let me know how your week went!

Kick-Ass Kreators Create! Part 2

As you may, or may not, know, I set up an online accountability group on Facebook.

Have you joined? Click here!

The intention is to give a little motivation each day and have opportunities to share our ups and downs with each other.

A suggestion was made that we could do something like a collective creation within the group, and so Just One Line was born!

The second challenge went out on Friday, and here is the little story that came out of it!

Julie opened the book up and as she fanned the pages, a yellowed piece of paper slipped out.

It was a very old newspaper cutting dating from the 1920s.

An Irish newspaper

And the name, right up at the top of the clipping, leapt out at her.

Hamish Lachlan Frasier McDonald Esq.

Hamish never talked or mentioned his family.

She sat down to read the aged article.

Tears sprang to her eyes and slowly made a trail down her cheeks.

It was about the death of his wife, but, thought Julie, I’m his wife.

Wait, what year was this printed?

This was way before Julie was born.

Julie paled and put a hand to her throat. How could that be?

A tap in her shoulder made her jump

She quickly hid the article in the book again and looked up with a fixed smile on her face.

Staring back at her, a curious look in his eyes, he asked “What’s up?”

She always had to pause when she saw his young face because it reminded her of him.

She didn’t know how to answer,

S she smiled, took a deep breath and suggested a fun night in with movies and snacks.

“Come on Hector, let’s go watch a film, maybe that one your daddy used to like,” Julie placed the book on the table and turned to her son.

Another fun set of entries to the story prompt! Thank you all!

If you want to be a part of it all, make sure you join, then you can add your own slants to the Just One Line story of the week!

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 208

img_00411

“Do not regret getting older. It is a privilege denied to many.” Unknown

Spidey is being philosophical today, as February in our family is a total Birthday Bomb!

Starting with my brother-in-law, then going on to my mother-in-law and Hubby Dearest on the same day, followed by father-in-law and Lil Princess, again on the same day…

Yup, it’s a busy month, too much cake on tap, presents to think of and special treats to organise, but a fun month nevertheless.

And each year is an opportunity to be thankful for the chance at another year. Another chance to learn all that life has to offer.

Right, now I am off to work off a whole load of cake!

So… tell me, what do birthdays mak eyou think of?

#SoCS Feb. 9/19

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ends with -ly.” Start your post with any adverb that ends in “-ly.” Bonus points if you end with an adverb too. Have fun!

Seriously? Words that end with -ly? Well, okay then.
Finally I am back, taking part in all the challenges I used to!
I've thankfully got off to a good start!
It's stream of consciousness, so I mindlessly tap away at the keys.
What I am writing is making no sense, honestly.

February 7: Flash Fiction Challenge – Signs

It’s time to get back into Charli’s 99-word flash fiction challenge!

February 7, 2019, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that includes a sign. It can be a posted sign, a universal sign, a wonder. Go where the prompt leads.

Here goes.

Why Did I Get Up?

Why Did I Get Up?
Nina dragged herself to sitting position. Why did the alarm have to go off?
She swung her feet out of bed and one landed on a squidgy mess.
Great.
The cat had been eating silly things, and deposited his sick at her bedside.
The shower was no better. Her flatmate had used up all the hot water.
Even her morning coffee was blighted with the fact there was no milk left.
After three hours of sitting on a bus, trying to reach her workplace, Nina gave up.
All signs that she should just have stayed in bed this morning.
