#SoCS June 1/19 – Silence

Linda’s #SoCS prompt for this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “silent/silence.” Use one or both in your post. Have fun!

The Colour of Silence

Silence is golden
I often hear say
But I'd like to think different
That is, if I may
For silence can come
In a total array
Of colours, depending on
What you're feeling that day

That deafening silence
Can feel rather black
When you're thinking that
No one's quite got your back

The silence of loss
Comes across as quite blue
When you're filling a void
Not knowing what to do

When silent anger is simmering
Deep inside your head
No, that's not golden,
You're just seeing red

That silence you hear
When it's late at night
Kids asleep, no disturbances
That's purely white

In the peace of the moment,
When all is quite calm
That silence is purple
It does you no harm

And yes, it can feel, sometimes
Silver or golden
As you accept life
When your body does olden

A rainbow of quiet
See, what I said was true
Feel silence in so many ways
Not only just a few
Cos silence it comes in
In many a hue
We all like some quiet
Which colour's for you?

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “strain.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Strain… Oh yes, I’m definitely feeling that right now…

Ever since Hubby Dearest’s injury, which is definitely more than a strain, I have been shouldering all the responsibility of running the kids around everywhere, along with all my usual jobs, and coping with a person who is not always too happy being holed up in the house, unable to do very much at all, apart from sit…

I am shattered. And this weekend will be giving me no restful opportunity either. Saturday morning, Swimming lessons for Lil Princess, followed by badminton for them both.

I was hoping for a few hours of peace in the afternoon, where I could get my nails done or something, but no, we have a couple of hours then we will be meeting Hubby Dearest’s brother and wife to go and grab an early dinner, then on to watch a film… And Sunday, I have to be up early to get Lil Man to his first cricket match of the season… which finishes at lunchtime, and then we pop back home to see my parents who are coming over for an hour to see Hubby Dearest…

I’m going to start next week on the backfoot, again!

It’s not just a physical strain, but a mental one too… I am constantly thinking about him, and the kids, and what I need to get done next… never-ending…

So, strain… Yes. I know that feeling very well…

Strain
Feeling
Exhausted
Out of control
Not able to rest
Just constantly worried
About what is coming next
Every single day needing to
Plan with military precision
Yet still never finding time for myself

#SoCS April 6/19

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “fab.” Use it as a word or find a word beginning with “fab.” As always, use any way you’d like. Have fun!

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the prompt was icecream!

I don’t know if you have these anywhere other than the UK but here we have ice lollies called Fab!

They are a mix of strawberry and vanilla ice, dipped in chocolate and sprinkles!

Have you had one?

I must admit I am not a big fan, but the kids love them!

Fab lollies are older than me… introduced by Lyons in 1967, to coincide with the popularity of Thunderbirds, alongside another lolly called Zoom which was more rocket shaped for the boys… Apparently girls would have prefered the ‘feminine’ shape of a Fab, rather than a Zoom lolly…

Personally, the ice lolly is more my thing!

#SoCS March 30/19 – Dough – D’oh

Linda’s #SoCS Prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “dough/d’oh.” Use one, use both, use ’em any way you like. Enjoy!

D’oh! Gotta love Homer Simpson!

He’s given us the best reaction phrase for when you goof up!

And that Homer also loves donuts (or doughnuts as we should really spell it!)

Do you like doughnuts?

Short’n’sweet this week!

#SoCS March 23/19 – The Last Piece Of Mail I Received

Linda’s SoCS Prompt this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “the last piece of mail you received.” Talk about the subject of the last piece of physical mail you received, i.e. a gas bill–talk about gas, not the bill itself. Have fun!

Hmmm… it’s not often I get mail nowadays. Most of my bank statements and bills are online, as I hate to throw so much paper away!

However, there are some things that are inevitable… Bills.

And Insurance renewals.

The last piece of physical mail I received was a renewal reminder for my cat, Sonu Singh. And his Pet insurance premium.

We are lucky to be blessed with a beautiful, healthy kitty who has just celebrated his 5th birthday with us too.

And his health means that we haven’t ever had to use the insurance, but is’s a ‘just in case’ scenario, as it is for all insurance.

He’s a fully fledged member of the family so he deserves to be looked after, just right too!

But the premiums! Oh my!

It went up by £100 just in a year, and that is even though we haven’t claimed ever.

Apparently it’s his age.

Seriously? He’s 5! And a house cat, at that.

Most insurers mention the 10 year mark as a time you would start to see rises, but not our company.

Suffice to say, we found another insurer, at a fraction of the cost, and the same piece of mind regarding our fur baby.

We love you Sonu Singh!
