#SoCS Mar 17/18 – Green

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “picture.” Write about, or theme your post on the first picture you see when you sit down to start writing. You don’t need to describe the picture necessarily–you can even put yourself in it if you’re not already there. Enjoy!

Well, the first picture I saw, after reading the prompt and getting ready to write was the header from Linda’s blog!

And I’ve written about snow enough recently! Though we obviously haven’t had enough… did you know here in the UK there is apparently another cold snap coming, after all this wonderful springlike weather that we’ve been experiencing… and, so the weather peeps are saying, there may be snow on the EASTER WEEKEND!

What?!

No!

It’s bad enough that we’re losing an hour’s sleep with the clocks springing forward this weekend, but to be thinking we are going to experience more cold next week???? I can’t deal with it!

I am the first to want snow usually… during the winter months, though. And I don’t think it’s too much to ask that there be a white Christmas, but once the season has officially changed, and Spring is meant to have sprung??? No thank you!

We’ve even got frogspawn in our nursery, and the tadpoles have hatched..I’d hate if we had to release them to the cold pond, instead of a warm spring temperature pond!

Right, I am off now to nurse my still aching back and shoulders… flossing (the dance) needs a health warning… you should really warm up before attempting it for any length of time!

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “green.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Gardens awakening

Rosebuds unfurling

Endless green shoots

Ever emerging

Now spring rears its head

I write this in hope, as we had a pretty glorious day yesterday, but the weatherman has predicted another cold snap, and possibly more snow this weekend, eek!

#SoCS Mar 10/18 – So Far

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “so far.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

This year so far
What has it brought
Days filled with laughter
Others just fraught

Honestly, we’ve only seen just over 2 months of 2018 and I feel like I have experienced more ups and downs than ever before.

Professionally and personally things have been interesting, to say the least, and though not everything is on an even keel, we are getting there!

I am still tired at work, stressed from trying to deal with two classes worth of information/teaching/kids, but blessed with the right kind of management, who listen, and though they can’t change things at the moment, understand and are realistic with expectations.

At home, we have had a week with my in-laws not here, and so far we have coped. Honestly, I knew things would be okay, but my mum in law was, as she always is, worried about the kids, and how they would cope after school, seeing as usually they go to them so I can put in a couple of extra hours, as a teacher does, at the end of the school day. The beauty of after-school club kicks in here and the understanding Head thing too, as she has allowed Lil Man to hang out with me at school, and in the after-school club, despite not being a student there anymore!

So far, I have read a few chapters from my WIP with the intention of finishing it, but I just haven’t got the head for it right now. I have spent so long on it that I don’t want to rush it now, in order to say it’s finished. It needs to be finished when I am in the right mindset. I am an edit as you go kinda writer, I can’t just steam off loadsa words, then cull after… It’s just not me!

There is still so much good stuff to come as well, the Blogger’s Bash, the birth of my new nephew/niece, the possibility that I will finish my manuscript… and a few uncertainties, what will happen next academic year? Along with some imminent nail biters –  I am being observed next week… eek!

But who said life was boring, eh? So far, I can definitely say mine hasn’t!

#SoCS Mar 3/18 – Fine

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “fine.” Use it any way you’d like, bonus points if you use it as the last word of your post. Have fun!

Well, y’all know that we’ve been battling all these storms this week in lil ole’ UK…

Nothing fine about the way things were handled…

The Beast from the East came and disabled most of the South East, the East and Scottish at the beginning of the week.

“Yay!” Said the kids, “Snow days!”

A few centimetres of snow and shutdown occurred! All the schools were closed. Trains and buses cancelled. The roads were chaos. People were stuck on motorways overnight as they got stuck.

Then that cheeky storm, Emma, snuck in from the south and created more havoc in the South West and Wales too!

For the first time in history, (I think) there were red weather warnings raised in Scotland and the South West due to snow. If you don’t know, that means risk to life if you were to venture out! Eek! We were told some places could get up to 50 centimetres!!!!!

Us here in the South East were stuck with the remnants of the Tuesday and Wednesday falls, slowly turning to slush and ice.

Due to the warnings regarding the approaching storm, schools were closed again Thursday and Friday (snow day? More like Snow WEEK!) so the kids were in heaven!

Thursday saw no new substantial snow, but Friday afternoon brought another deluge, thanks to lovely Emma!

All this white stuff is lovely… but what’s the point when it’s that awful powdery stuff that is so fine, it doesn’t stick together, so you can’t make a decent snowball, let alone a snowman!

The kids have tried really hard to make them. The first lot of snow was great. Lil Princess made a three-tier one.

Yesterday, Hubby Dearest ventured out with Lil Man, hoping to make something bigger, but to no avail. They tried and tried but the dang snow just wouldn’t stay together. They ended up with a pile of snow, rather than a figure of any sort… a snow mountain!

On Friday we ventured out to my in-laws house, as we hadn’t been out.

There are no other kids here so the garden’s snow content was largely untouched, apart from the path my father-in-law had painstakingly cleared, from the house to the garage… (three times so far).

Lil Man was in heaven!

He went out, determined to make something, and make something, he did!

A snow penguin!

What do you reckon? I think he did just fine!

#SoCS Feb 24/18 – Door

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “door.” Write about a door you walked through this week that wasn’t your own. Enjoy!

A door I passed through this week was the door to my classroom. It’s not a particularly snazzy door. In fact, it’s a  fire exit too, with a push handle for easy opening.

We try and make it look interesting by putting posters up on it depicting topics that interest the children. At the moment, dinosaurs grace the bottom half, as that is the part they have to eye level.

I do love that door, as, though it isn’t my own, it takes me into a room that I class as my territory in school. My classroom, my nursery, my domain!

Hope that wasn’t cheating, but there you go!
