Yes, it is Mother’s Day here in the UK, and a day to really celebrate our wonderful mothers.
Well, as I tell the kids at school too, we should appreciate them every day, but today is the day you can go all out and show them just how much you love them, not necessarily by material things, but by how you behave.
Breakfast in bed, giving her a break, not arguing (my kids, are you listening?), tidying up, a surprise cup of tea, a handmade card.
Seriously, these things are what make a Mother’s Day special for me at least.
And I have a true legend to celebrate.
My mum.
My mum is just amazing. She has been a nurturer, a friend, a support, a discipliner, an inspiration, a teacher, a taxi driver, a cook, a housekeeper, a most amazing Nanny, and just all round wonderful Mum.
I don’t have the words to tell her exactly how much she means to me, but she knows.
We aren’t always able to be together for Mother’s Day, due to distance, but our hearts are forever connected.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mum!

Our Mother’s Day in the US is in May. Since my mother is dead and I chose not to be a mother, I do not celebrate the day.

Terrific tribute and photos…and just an FYI: my wife and I had a fun night of dinner and drinks with Mayor Villaraigosa two years ago…he was funny and nice, and spoke a lot about the importance of family!
