Amazingly, I have been nominated under the Best Overall Blog category!

The criteria:
This award is for the blogger who has the best overall blog. Who is the blogger that for you, excels in a variety of categories? Perhaps they’re sociable and engage with readers, maybe they share others posts, or have a writing style that keeps you coming back time and time again.
Whoever you choose needs to be an all rounder, a blogger that for you is head and shoulders above the rest.

Flattered? Why yes of course I am!

Nervous? Hell yeah! Have you seen my competition? There are some amazing HUGE blogs in the running, and I count some of the bloggers as friends, not the competition!

Still, I have to do my bit, and I am launching my vote appeal. Apologies in advance if you have already voted, but if you haven’t, your vote counts for a lot! Whether it is for me or one of my friends, please head over to Sacha’s post here to click your choice!

The Soundtrack Of My Life – International Edition

The lovely Em Linthorpe took part in a great music tag post and said that if we wanted to, we could join in!

soundtrack of my life

Simply, this tag is just picking 7 songs that could be described as forming “The Soundtrack Of My Life”.

You know me, I have a really rich, colourful and international background so it is hard to think of just seen songs, that you would all understand! So I decided to do to two posts! A previous one with western songs (click here for that!), and this with International songs, that have influenced my life!

So., here we go!

  1. Bhabiye Ni Bhabiye – AlaapGoing to weddings, growing up there were no DJ’s but live bhangra bands performing, and one of the most popular was Alaap. This was a song that was played again and again. The meaning of the song was a young brother in law asking his sister in law (brother’s wife) to help him find a wife! Popular at all the weddings, then and now still! We also knew the singer so visited his house!

2. Yeh Dosti – Sholay

Bollywood has always played a HUGE part in my life and Sholay was a film that was released the year I was born. It is classed as a classic now (eek! Does that mean I am now in the ‘Classic’ Catergory?!) About friendship, it was played lots at gatherings, and you will still, to this day, find groups of drunken lads, grouped together singing it, celebrating their friendship! Picturized on Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, who are two kings of Bollywood!

3. Roj Roj – Sardara Gill

Going back no weddings and my internationally placed family, when we would get together at a wedding, this was a popular song, as it means that we aren’t always going to be together, like this, so we need to enjoy our time, and sing, laugh, dance and be merry!

Sorry the video is not particularly great, but it was the only one I could find!

4. Jambo Bwana

Again, going back to weddings (yes, there were, and are, a lot in my family!) when the Kenyan contingency get together, a version of this song has to be played! Hakuna Matata!

5. Chura Liya – Bally Sagoo

When Brummy DJ Bally Sagoo remixed this old Hindi Bollywood classic, it ended up being an international hit! I love this song, the original, and his version, which again was a song that takes me back to my teen years! (Again, we knew him and his family, as my Pops was his dentist!)

6. – Hai Mera Dil – Josh

Another song from Bollywood, but a pretty important one, as it was our first dance at our wedding! Loosely translated it means that you only love once, and you, who have stolen my heart, will be my one forever.

7. Lambada – Kaoma

I had to include this in my list of international songs! I love the rhythm of the song, and so does my Pops! In fact when it was released, it was Pops who bought the vinyl!

There you have it! A selection of songs that have influenced my life in some way or another!

Hope you enjoyed, and if you fancy taking part, please go ahead!!!

The Soundtrack Of My Life – English Edition

The lovely Em Linthorpe took part in a great music tag post and said that if we wanted to, we could join in!

soundtrack of my life

Simply, this tag is just picking 7 songs that could be described as forming “The Soundtrack Of My Life”.

You know me, I have a really rich, colourful and international background so it is hard to think of just seen songs, that you would all understand! So I decided to do to two posts! This one with western songs, and a second with International songs, that have influenced my life!

There is no rhyme nor reason to the songs I have chosen, but they are all songs that take me back to great times, or just get me singing straight away!

1 – Goodness Gracious Me!

This song was on a cassette tape that my parents would play in the car on long journeys and we giggled along to the accent of Peter Sellers! Such a funny song!

2 Especially For You – Kylie and Jason

I know, I know, cheesy! But I was a HUGE Neighbours fan growing up and they were my idols as a tween!

3. Boom Shak-a-Lack – Apache Indian

At Sixth Form, a new sensation, Apache Indian appeared int he charts, for a while. Yes he was indian, but he sang Ragga and Dancehall and I loved his silly songs!

4 – Don’t Let Go – En Vogue

I loved the soulful, sexy way these girls sang, and felt like such an appropriate song for me when it was released, and due to my own situation at the time.

5 – Close To You – The Carpenters

This is just such a beautiful song, and I love to sing it!! Ever since I heard it for the first time, it takes me back to happy places in my mind! I sometimes sing it to my kids, changing lyrics to suit them!

6. Superwoman – Karyn White

When things get me down, as a mum, wife and teacher, this is what I sing to myself! I know I am loved, but this helps me wallow in musical mud!

7. Shape Of You – Ed Sheeran

I know it is probably the most overplayed song in the world right now, but it is such a great song! And I have loved listening to all the variations that people have come up with! I especially like the Bhangra versions that have been remixed, so I am sharing one of those!

I’m not sure what you’ll learn about me from these songs, apart from the fact that my taste is rather eclectic, and that I must have had a rather cheesy upbringing lol! Still, I love em all!!!!!

If you would like to take part, please do, it’s a great way to revisit songs that have meant something in your life!

Look out for Part 2 – The International Version – coming soon!
