Colleen’s 2020 Weekly #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge No. 172, #Poet’sChoice #Senryu

Colleen’s challenge this week is Poet’s choice of words in a syllabic form of poetry. From me, a trio of senryu about getting moving, during this lockdown time…

A sedentry life
This self isolation lark
Need to get moving

Easy choice, to sit
To watch, to read, to consume
But it's not healthy

Find a reason to
Move, be it inside or out
For your sanity

April 2: Flash Fiction Challenge – Pizza

Charli’s Carrot Ranch fiction prompt!

April 2, 2020, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story that includes pizza. It can be an original pizza pie (or slice) or something pizza-like. Go where the prompt leads!

Pizza Face

“Stuffed Your Face Pizza. Hmm, that’s an interesting name for the business, Marcus.”
Lorraine was flicking through the pile of newly printed flyers, ready to go out the next morning.
“Let’s just say it has meaning…”
“Well, I hope people stuff their face with your pizza, considering the loan we’ve take, against our home.”
“Oh, it’ll be worth it, all right.” Marcus spread moisturiser on his smooth skin as he thought back to school.
“Oi, Pizza Face! You’re stuffed!”
Thankfully, the acne that plagued him then, was long gone, and his newest employee was one of the tormentors.
Revenge!

March 26: Flash Fiction Challenge – In Charge

Charli’s prompt this week:

March 26, 2020, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story in which a character takes charge. Who is this character, and what situation calls for their action? It can be playful or serious, fantastical, or realistic. Go where the prompt leads!

In Charge Now

“I’m sorry,” she wheezed, as she slowly picked up her bags, after switching off her computer.

“You’re sick. Just go. Don’t worry, we are here. Now remember, you need to rest up for at least seven days, do you hear me?”

I watched the retreating figure of my Headteacher and grabbed a cloth and the. Disinfectant spray. After cleaning her desk, and chair, I sank down on it.

Oh, man, this meant I was in charge of a school, still open, in a pandemic.

Three members of staff, and a clutch of children would be relying on me now…

The Weekly Terrible Poetry Contest 3/14 – 3/20/2020 #CoronaVerses

Well, I have seen this challenge by Chelsea Owens around for a while, but never had a chance to get involved.

But, recently, this virus has stimulated a few #CoronaVerses, and I thought I could conjour up a terrible limerick for this week’s prompt…

Are you ready for some TERRIBLE POETRY? Here goes…

A man in a fit of elation
Stockpiled like the rest of the nation
Well, bog roll he had
But it left him quite sad
When all the pasta gave him constipation!

Ritu 2020

Awful, isn’t it?

Here are the specifics for this week:

  1. Topic: Stockpiling against a worldwide disaster, in limerick form.
  2. Length: A limerick. They’re five lines: AABBA, in anapestic meter.
  3. Rhyming: Yes. In AABBA anapestic meter format.
  4. Make it terrible! Got it? Make it terrible!! The world’s ending, after all!
  5. Rating: PG-13. This is the perfect time to panic …poetically.
haha
