Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 329 – Music

“Behind every favourite song, there is an untold story.”

Unknown

Many thanks, Spidey, for finding me an appropriate music-based quote for today’s post!

It’s true, isn’t int? There is definitely a story behind favourite songs, or else, why would they be so special?

Okay, I know there are some that you just like the lyrics of, but if you dig deeper, there will be some reason, some connection, that keeps you coming back to it.

Music was on my mind, recently, as I set up my Alexa Dots around the house, and compiled playlists that I could stream through the system. I’m quite backwards like that, where music is concerned. I still prefer my cd player in the car, to the streaming, even though I have Apple music, etc, but now, I guess it’s time to harness the power, and the fun you have, asking Alexa to play certain songs, even though she gets songs of other languages a bit mixed up, and ragga songs, which I do love!

Anywho, on Saturday night, as I cooked the dinner, I asked her to play all sorts of songs, and there were mini stories behiind why each of them stuck with me.

I started with (don’t laugh) the Birdie Song. A true party favourite when I was a young child! I attempted to get Lil Princess to join me to do the moves, but after laughing at me (result, better than the moods we get!) she ran off to her room!

Then it was Copacabana, which reminded me of a dance competition in school, where a couple of friends choreographed a dance to it.

These songs morphed into more and more memories from the past, with tunes, or choooons, as we used to say, from my uni years, leading me to begin to create a playlist for myself with memory songs!

It lightened a rather heavy mood here, as a certain someone came home from a match that was lost, and was particularly negative, and after a bit of a kitchen boogie, all felt so much better. The music followed me up to the utility area, where I ironed and continued to dance to more memorable songs from years filled with wonderful memories.

What fun!

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 328 – Father’s Day

“My father has always been my hero.”

Gregory Hines

Yup, Spidey, I agree with that quote 100000%!

My Pops is the most wonderful father there ever was, and I never leave it to one day a year to tell him. Every time we speak, I make sure he leaves the call, with me telling me how much he means to me, and whenever we see each other, that hug is what conveys all the emotion. It works both ways.

I could myself blessed that I was born his daughter. The wisdom he has imparted upon me, the love he has showered on all of us, the constant, invisible support he has been for us all…

But, my Pops isn’t the only father in my life…

I have my father-in-law, and hey, if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have the gorgeous husband that I was lucky enough to have been blessed with! Thanks, Dad!

Talking of Hubby Dearest, I couldn’t ask for a better father for my children. He is the sweetest, most caring, amazing dad to our two teens, who test us daily. He showers them with love and makes sure they want for nothing.

I couldn’t write this post without mentioning my brother, who has proved to be an equally fabulous father, to my tow Finndian nephews. I am so proud of how he has adapted to being a Dad, as well as working, and supporting his family. It always warms my heart to see how he is with his two boys.

I am incredibly lucky to have these amazing fathers in my life, and I am well aware that there are many out there who either do not have that kind of role model around them, or maybe have lost their own.

My heart goes out to you ❤

So… tell me, if you do, how do you celebrate Father’s Day?

Have a peaceful Sunday Peeps  And enjoy your week! ❤

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 327 – The Daily Grind

“Life is a grindstone. Whether it grinds us down or polishes us up, depends on us”

L Thomas Holdcroft

You picked a good ‘un there, Spidey!

The grindstone is pretty much everywhere in my life right now, from the daily grind, to the tough graft of setting up a new home, to the work graft which will be starting up again tomorrow!

Currently, we are settling up the home office spaces, and trying to get the wardrobe situations under control. I am constantly on the go, it seems, either cleaning, ordering and paying for new stuff, or putting flatback furniture together!

It is definitely a grind, I tell you! But, I’m positive. It will get so much better, because of all the effort we are putting in! Our new home will be polished in every sense of the word, because of all the work we are putting in.

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 326 – New Tricks

“Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors.”

Old African Proverb

Thank you, Spidey for a thought provoking quote to ponder upon, this week.

And, thank YOU, Peeps, for bearing with our little break, last week, as we dealt with the craziness of moving house.

If you read my Chai post the day after, you’d have found out that we finally moved into our forever home, but the move wasn’t without a huge amount of angst. When are these things ever simple?

There were moments when we wondered whether we had done the right thing, to be honest, but when I think back over the last week, there have been so maany opportunities to learn new skills, that I have to count that as a bonus.

In dealing with an errant vendor, and an estate agent who isn’t as much help as he should be, on top of trying to keep a stressed Hubby Dearest calm, I have learned a lot.

And, to add to my new skills, I have become an expert at putting together ottoman beds (three, put together by myself and Lil Princess!), assembling a TV cabinet with a little assistance, locating switches for different services that weren’t working, how to use a dishwasher (never had one, before!), how NOT to fix a washing machine, and I have taught myself how to fix loose toilet seats on an enclosed toilet! (Thank you, YouTube!)

I’ve also attempted, but not mastered, the countryside driving that we will have to do a little more of, with some places having such narrow roads, that there isn’t even a pass point for another vehicle to pull over in!

All skills that will come in handy, at another point in my life, I am sure!

And, I’m sure there will be more to come. We have the internet being connected tomorrow, properly, so the next thing to learn, is how to us the smart home system that has been set up here, that controls the heating, water and lights!

Though we had some really rough days, I’ve come out, the other side, with plenty of new knowledge, and a house to be proud of!

So, tell me, what new skills have you learned, or taught yourself, recently?

Have a peaceful Sunday Peeps.
