Hyphenated – #JusJoJan the 17th, 2023

Welcome to the daily prompt! Today is your thirteenth prompt for Just Jot it, January 2023, brought to you by Sally. Thank you, Sally! Please visit Sally’s blog to read her post and say hello. And follow her while you’re there if you’re not already.

Your prompt for JusJoJan, January 17th 2023, is “hyphenated” Use the word “hyphenated” any way you’d like. Have fun writing!

I often think about those with hyphenated surnames. You know, the double-barrelled ones that make a person sound posher than they may actually be.

Double-barrelled surnames aren’t really a thing in our culture, but I wondered whether it would be good to double barrel my maiden and married name…

Padhaal-Bhathal or Bhathal-Padhaal…

It has a funny ring to it. I know I wouldn’t stop laughing if I had to say that with any regularity!

Sp, no, no hyphenated surnames for me!

Chai And A Chat #219 #ChaiAndAChat with Jan 16th, 2023 #JusJoJan –

Well, hello, Monday three of the year!

Have you got a drink? I am ready for mine this morning.

(Adding a little #JusJoJan to the prompt, with the word Optimism by June. Thanks, Linda!)

  • If we were having chai, I’d start by asking, “Is it me, or is the second week of the year always so meh?”
  • If we were having chai, I’d tell you that school was fine. As usual. Nothing new to report. The kids are getting better health-wise and keeping us busy. But I have been very tired, so I wonder whether I need to look at my HRT dosages…
  • If we were having chai, I’d say that one evening, Lil Princess and I spent time sorting out my washi tape collection. I ordered some dispensers and gave her the task of ordering them colour and pattern-wise. They look pretty!
  • If we were having chai, I’d tell you that I gave in and bought Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare… Many people have opinions on this, even those who choose to read it. I found a couple of comments on my FB author page post a bit alarming. At the end of the day, it is my choice of what I wish to read, and I am not some simpleton who will be brainwashed just by reading a book. I know this is a recount from Harry’s perspective and that there are others ideas to the story, as well as the side that is the TRUTH!
Nevertheless, I was lectured about the ‘lies’ I would be reading, and the best one? An assumption that because I bought a book like this, published by a trad press, I don’t buy or read anything Indie published, and that I was taking away from the poor Indie authors… Er, hello, I am and have been an Indie author and my choice to read Spare is my own! I read plenty of books written and published in all manners. I think you guys who read my blog can attest to that!
Oh, and I obviously will now side with Harry. This book isn’t about taking sides for me. It’s more of an interest in seeing what he felt. He is open about his mental health struggles, and that is something that affects anyone, royalty or otherwise…
  • If we were having chai, I’d have to admit to not being as good at keeping up with certain things this week, but that was due to feeling rather low. I suffered a lot of exhaustion and some headaches, so I did my exercises and blogged daily, but I wrote barely any words for book 3 and listened to only a couple of Hypnotherapy sessions. Still, I won’t beat myself up because at least I recognised that I needed to slow down and not attempt to do everything to my own detriment. I was filled with optimism after last week, but I’m not counting this as a failure, just another step to learn from.
  • If we were having chai, I would need to mention my darling, Sonu Singh. He had his dreaded annual checkup and vaccinations on Saturday. Bless him, he miaowed to the vets, even with Lil Princess by his side. Last time he was diagnosed with a small heart murmur. Along with still being overweight. Thankfully, his murmur has not changed or gotten worse. And his weight? Well, blow me down with a feather, but despite all the begging for food, he went from just over 6kg to under 5kg! The vet was really happy and said that this is the weight we need to aim for, for him, as a house cat, to stay as healthy as he can… It’s his 9th birthday next week, too!

This week there is nothing different other than a couple of members of my team out, so we will need to cover all bases there. I will try to keep up with my exercises and hope to manage more words, too.

And while you’re here, did you sign up for my mailing list? I am in the middle of writing an exclusive Chickpea Curry Lit story for my subscribers, and there will be news, tips and even recipes! You know you want to join… go on! Click the pic below to sign up!

Spidey’s Serene Sunday #410 and #JusJoJan the 15th, 2023 – Gratitude

We’re doing an amalgamation of posts here today, with Spidey (with his newly spruced-up graphic!), and Linda’s #JusJoJan, together!

Welcome to the daily prompt! Today is your fifteenth prompt for Just Jot it January 2023, and it’s brought to you by Carol Aanne. Thank you, Carol Anne! Please be sure to visit Carol Anne’s blog to read her post and say hello. And follow her while you’re there, if you’re not already.

Linda

Your prompt for JusJoJan, January 15th 2023, is “Gratitude.” Use the word “gratitude” any way you’d like. Have fun writing!

“Even in the chaos of everyday life, moments of gratiutde remind us to hold on to the good things.”

Brit Morin

And you found a lovely quote to add to this duo post, Spidey, thank you!

It’s easy to fixate on everything we think we want and only exclaim our gratitude when those wishes come true, but it is important to realise that everything around us should elicit some form of thankfulness.

The clean(ish) air we breathe, the water we drink, the roof over our head, the food in our cupboards, the car we may drive, the clothes on our backs, and our health.

Sure, not everything we have may be perfect, but you know what, and I have said this many times before, enough is key.

Be grateful for having enough.

Because there are people out there who have less and can still show gratitude.

They are the people we should learn lessons from.

#SoCS & #JusJuJan Jan. 14th, 2023 – Once Upon A Time

Linda’s SoCS prompt.

Your prompt for #JusJoJan the 14th and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “once upon a time.” Start your post with “Once upon a time,” then write whatever comes to you, whether it be fact or fiction. Have fun!

Once upon a time, there was a middle-aged woman who never had any time to herself.

What with work and life at home, answering to the whims of teenagers, and her third child, sorry, husband, as well as those of the wider family, and not forgetting the cat, she never had any time to herself.

The hours would slip away, and another day would pass when she hadn’t been able to engage in her own passions.

But on the days she could carve time out for herself, it was wonderful. She’d go to sleep tired but content.

I wish I could write that something magical happened and end with ‘she lived happily ever after‘, but it’s not quite a fairy tale as it’s my life, and probably that of many, many other women out there!

But not to say it’s a sad ending, because I am happy and I’m still here, so it’s not The End!

Reversal – #JusJoJan the 13th, 2023

Welcome to the daily prompt! Today is your thirteenth prompt for Just Jot it, January 2023, brought to you by Sajde. Thank you, Sajde! Please visit Sadje’s blog to read her post and say hello. And follow her while you’re there if you’re not already.

Your prompt for JusJoJan, January 13th 2023, is “reversal” Use the word “reversal” any way you’d like. Have fun writing!

Sometimes I wonder if it would be good to initiate a time reversal

So many things I may have done differently, had I a second chance at certain moments in my life.

Then I realise that if I was to go back, and change things, the butterfy effect would be that my life right now whould also change.

And, even though I have tough moments right now, in most respects, I am happy with my lot.

I’ve been blessed with enough.

Nothing in my life is overflowing, except my smiles, compassion and love.

So, no, though I could change many things if I were to take part in a time reversal, I’d say, politely, “No thank you. I am at peace.”
