#SoCS October 9, 2021 – Lid

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week:

YouYour Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “lid.” Use it in the literal sense, use it in the metaphorical sense, use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Shhhhh! Can you keep a secret? Can you keep a lid on it? Lips shut? Schtum?

Well, my little secret is that I am writing this whilst a little tiddly, to say the least! I haven’t had a drink for quite a while, and tonight, I have consumed a whole bottle of Gin Fizz… Oops! A WHOLE BOTTLE!

Now, it’s not often that I indulge.

To be honest, we teachers may say we are going to drown our troubles on a Friday night, but I know that I, for one, am so shattered, that a drink would just send me to sleep, early, and I can do that without the liquid assistance!

However, tonight, I felt the need to. It’s been five weeks since we went back to school. I have a wonderful, but very challenging, class. Three children who require one to one support, but who don’t have it, yet, because of resource. Another who has medical needs on top of other needs, too. All of them are loveable children, who need specialist provision, but the world around us thinks they need to be part of an inclusive education.

I’m all for inclusion, but sometimes, it isn’t the right thing for those kids.

I find my inputs interrupted, every time, as one of my lovelies walks through the rest of the class, like a bulldozer – no spatial awareness – to come and sit on my lap, or to take my hand and lead me to whatever they want, at the time. Or, in groupwork, my group is left unattended, for a few moments, as I deal with a meltdown, or an issue with one of the children who have these needs.

You see, these kids find it hard to conform to what the rest of the class are doing. They dance to the beat of their own drums, right now. They are still exploring the environment, and can’t follow instructions. Yet, in their own way, they show their own brilliance.

It’s not easy, but the rest of the class have been angels.

They are aware, already, at the age of four, or five, that there are children who have very specific needs, and there is barely any fussing. They just let those children get on with whatever they do, whilst waiting for Mrs B to get back to them.

These kids are superstars, seriously.

All of them.

With needs or not.

All children are blessings.

Did you know that the Cockney rhyming slang for kids is saucepan lids? See, my ramble did have something to do with the prompt, I promise!

And now, I shall sign off, as the words are starting to swim in front of my eyes!

#SoCS October 1, 2021 – inspire/aspire/expire – Oh And Half A Million People Have Viewed my Blog!

Linda’s (or, actually, Dan’s) prompt for SoCS this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “inspire/aspire/expire.” Use them in any form you like. Use one, use two or use them all if you want. If you use two, you get bonus points! If you use all three, Cheryl will put your next drink on David’s tab. Enjoy!

I aspire to inspire as many of my pupils and readers as I can, before I expire!

There.

Got em all out in one sentence! Surely there should be another bonus point for that…? Or, maybe a visit to Dan, Cheryl and David!

Anywho, about that sentence. It’s filled with truth.

Ever since I can remember, that has been my hope and dream. To teach, to inspire children to love learning, and books. To know that words hold may meanings. And, the same hope is there with the words I write, on here, my blog, as well as in my poems and stories.

Yesterday, I received a notification that my blog had hit 500K views. That is Half A Million clicks to my little baby blog.

I was gobsmacked, humbled, but a tad excited.

It did make me wonder, though. What makes people come to visit my blog… or what makes readers keep coming back?

I am so grateful to everyone who does come on over to my little space, and I do hope that a little smile is spread whenever you read.

I hope Spidey inspires someone, along the way. I hope my book reviews point you towards a next read. I hope my Chai and Chats are a little glimmer of the real life of a mum, wife, teacher and aspiring author… I hope your interest in my blog never expires.

I hope you have fun. 😃

#SoCS April 3, 2021

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “start with who/whom” Begin your post with either “who” or “whom” and go from there. Have fun!

Who's that, What's that?
I don't know what I'm doing
So I
Text her, WhatsApp,
Telling her to come through
And then I
Copped a Big Mac
Milk Shake and some large fries
It cost £4.50
Take the gherkin out of the inside...

Nico B

So, these are the beginning lyrics to a song that came to mind as soon as I read the prompt.

I remember the first time I heard this, on the radio last summer, as we travelled to one of Lil Man’s first Men’s Fifth Team matches.

The day was hot, so hot. A men’s match isn’t a couple of hours, rather a whole afternoon, bleeding into the evening.

This song came on, and the lyrics caught my attention as he was talking about a Macdonalds, and gettign a Big Mac without the gherkin…

I marvelled at the lyrical prowess of the newer artists. Actually, I laughed.

The song made no sense to me.

Why on earth was he singing about Maccy D’s?

It wasn’t until a few months later, when the song appeared on a compilation CD that I bought for Lil Princess, that I had a chance to listen to it, properly.

It seems to follow the story of a girl he got with, who ended up a bit of a psycho, and then he plants drugs on her so she gets caught by the police…

Still doesn’t explain the Big Mac sans gherkin, though…

#SoCS Jan. 30th – The Beginning/The End

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week…

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “the beginning, the end.” Write about the beginning of something and the end of  something. Bonus points if your first sentence contains “the end” and your last sentence contains “the beginning.” <– Read that again. Have fun!

At the end of the day, it all comes down to common sense, doesn’t it?

There are so many decisions that politicians have taken for us, over the last year, and they have, for the most part, shown us just how inept they are at thinking of logical solutions, which require common sense.

There’s a virus, get people to wear masks. Oh, no, that isn’t very effective… roll on a few months. Everyone wear masks, unless you are at home, or outside… or in school, because school is a magical safe place where no one gets ill. Um, maybe we should get older kids to wear masks, actually… oh, and maybe adults, in communal areas.

U turn!

Another one.

We’ll just make people stay at home for a while, when they come back from holiday. And create ‘travel corridors’ with other ‘safe’ countries. Oops… seems peopel are bringing the virus, and it’s bigger cousins, back with them. Let’s shut a few corridors down, then reopen them after a while. Months, and months,, later. Um, maybe we should stop all travel…

Common sense, I told you!

There are so many areas of the handling of this pandemic, that could have possibly been better, if there was just a little common sense used, right at the beginning, don’t you think?

#SoCS Dec. 19/2020 – Magnet

Linda’s #SoCS Prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “magnet.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

The first thing that came to mind was reader magnet.

I’ve been working on a reader magnet, since the middle of the lockdown, but it came to a halt because school started up, and well, life hasn’t been the simplest, recently, for me.

Do you know what a reader magnet is?

It is, for want of a better word, the bait to reel in some new readers, by offering a free short story, novella, or sometimes even a full length book, in exchange for people signing up to your newsletter.

I’m trying to build that up too, but I haven’t even had a chance to send any out, yet!

Maybe this Christmas, I can do it. At least send one out! (Sans reader magnet, though, as that won’t be quite ready!)
