#SoCS August 3/19 – Astronomical

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “astronomical.” Use it any way you like. Have fun!

Well this totally suits my mood right now, as I have just been preparing Lil Princess for her start to secondary school.

Uniform buying is not cheap!

She doesn’t need to buy specific trousers/skirts etc, but the blouses have to be specific, from one shop in our area (Red and white stripes. Not attractive, but not as bad as my burgundy and pink ensemble from my school days!) We visited the shop today, having already ordered the basic stuff from a cheaper source. £23 pounds for two shirts.

£23!!!!

And I need to get another set yet too as two shirts won’t be enough.

Blazer bought too.

So far I think we have spent around £180 on her uniform, a bit of his and stationery.

Then it is shoe and school bag shopping time… Oh Jeez, let the fun begin!

It inspired an acrostic poem!

Astronomical
Secondary school uniform prices
Truly test a parents wallet
Ridiculous price tags
On everything from shoes to shirts
Nothing less than a tenner
Only the tie
Most has to be bought from specific shops
Impossible to save
Can't cheat and go to Asda
And she's only going to grow
Lordy! Let the spending begin!

#SoCS July 13/19 – Instructions

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “instructions.” Write instructions for anything you know how to do. As detailed or as rambling as you’d like. Enjoy!

Instructions For How Not To Write A Book

  1. Have a brilliant idea
  2. Start writing it
  3. Spend 18 years snatching moments to write
  4. Finally type The End
  5. Realise that is not the end really
  6. Reread.
  7. Rewrite
  8. Reread
  9. Rewrite
  10. Get readers
  11. Rewrite
  12. Try and submit to agents
  13. Feel down, then perk up when you remember J.K. Rowling and Stephen King had many rejections
  14. Find an editor
  15. Get excited and look at cover possibilities
  16. Read feedback from editor
  17. Cringe
  18. Rewrite
  19. Reread
  20. Tentatively send out to next set of readers

This is when it can go one of a few ways.

  • You find an agent, and get a fantastic publishing deal! Yay!
  • You find your mailbox cluttered with rejections and you decided to give up… Don’t!
  • You look at the possibility of Self/Indie Publishing, find a fantastically supportive community and find your success that way! Double Yay!

I’m at the post Editor feedback rewriting stage now. Thankfully there weren’t as many cringes as I thought there would be… It’s just crazy trying to find time to finish the rewrite!

Hopefully it won’t be long before I can announce something postive about this book!!!

#SoCS July 6/19 – Chew/Choo

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “chew/choo.” Use one or both, any way you’d like. Have fun!

Here’s something to chew upon…
Does a train go Chugga Chugga Choo Choo or Chuff Chuff Choo Choo?

#SoCS June 22/19 – Leaves

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “leaves.” Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!

What an apt prompt, as I have been thinking of leaves this week!

We are discussing Mini Beasts as a topic, in both of my classes these few weeks, Nursery and Reception, and leaves feature heavily, because slugs, snails and caterpillars like to eat them, black fly like to destroy them, ladybird larvae are often found on them in the playgrounds, etc.

Kids love us. And they love to bring in topic relevant presents, whether it is a dead fly or a leaf with a bug on it, to live snails brought lovingly to us, via their pockets! 🤢 Leaves a bit of a nasty taste…

Really!

We are also becoming adept at cutting out leaves freehand for myriad activities too, from leaves ready for them to hole punch, to small ones for them to use in collage… Fun and games!

And there you have it. Leaves. EYFS style!†

#SoCS June 15/19

Linda’s #SoCS Prompt for this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “social.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Well, this is just an ideal prompt for me today!

As you read this, or maybe a little after you do, I shall be being very social

It is the Annual Bloggers Bash today and, as every year, I am so excited to be able to meet all the wonderful bloggers and writers that I have befriended over the internet.

Yes, there are awards too, but that is not the biggest thing for me. What means the most, is that I get to talk to like minded individuals; share jokes, advice, and cake!

So, forgive me if this is brief, but for a change I am being social in reality not on Social Media!
