Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 167 – Rewrite, Right?

img_00411

She believed she could, so she did.”

R.S Grey

Lovely quote Spidey!

It’s easy to be filled with self-doubt, presuming your dreams are not attainable.

But what if you could change that?

What if all it took was the belief that you could?

If you have that belief that you can achieve, you are already halfway there.

I’m holding on to that belief that my book will become a reality.

And in time, I am sure it will happen, and I’ll make it a success.

That is my belief anyway!

Tell me about one of your dreams, and something you really believe you can achieve, or find something and try and start to believe it could be possible… Write it down here, and let me help you sow that seed of belief!

Happy Sunday Peeps!

I believe I can achieve something positive in Alvin, Texas to further literacy. I have started with a Little Free Library in my yard and am discussing local literacy efforts in my new blog http://literacylessons.wordpress.com (I am the second choice down.).

This gave me something to think about besides seeing the quote on a magnet I placed on my filing cabinet (gift from a friend) and a Hallmark gift book I gave a friend.

As long as we believe, we are well on the way to seeing it happen.

If you can dream it, you can be it! All things are possible. We only make it impossible when we tell ourselves it is impossible. I overcame so many fears, grow out of my own shell and see that the potential of growth is not coming to an end. And the most wonderful thing is that I found tools to share those life-enhancing insights with so many people in the belief that it will reach some and help them to break their shells too in order to feel and expand their whole greatness!

The standard business model for goal setting is
    a. Specify the goal.
    b. Ensure that it is achievable and measurable.
    c. Specify a time-frame desired. (So you can measure progress towards it).

Your choice of words is good in that “my book will become a reality.” Your “success” could simply be having your book available to all on-line book stores.
However, “I’ll make it a success.” has problems because you have to define what success means to you, and strategize accordingly.

The standard business parameter about goal setting is it must be achievable. A goal that is clearly achievable is a great motivation tool, a goal that is highly questionable will likely be a de-motivator.

You may wish to consider your first goal as having your book available to on-line book retailers. After that goal has been achieved, then you might want to consider another goal based around sales figures. Just thinking!

Too much thinking for a Sunday!!!! My success would be having it published… whatever route! The good reviews – the next dream… seeing it on a bookshop shelf the next… selling the movie rights… an ultimate!

There are some problems straight away!
“My success would be having it published… whatever route!” – EXCELLENT and measurable.
“Good reviews” – what is good and for reviews (plural) – how many?
“Seeing it on a bookshop shelf” – that is a very aggressive goal given the book retail business, inventory costs and book return insurance.
“Selling the movie rights” I am assuming that is not a legitimate success goal, but a fun thought!
Ritu – If you take your definitions of success seriously, then you must prepare yourself for some long and frustrating periods based on the above. Some of those goals cannot be strategized as they are dependent upon others. If you do not take your definitions of success seriously, then you will likely be disappointed.

I do not know the teaching profession so have no idea whether “goal setting” figures anywhere however, it is a standard process adopted by many businesses to ensure progress in changing business climates, by way of targets being determined and strategies to achieve same established. It can be very effective.

        My suggestions would be:
        1. Book to be published by (you choose date. Suggest year end)
        2. Be interviewed by minimum 6 book related Blog sites.
        3. Must have minimum 6 positive reviews by (6 months from publish date)
        4. Sell 100 copies within 3 months (from publish date).
        5. Average 20 copies/ month over first 12 months (from publish date)

There are also many other possibilities re promoting your book which will be necessary, and which should be incorporated into your overall strategy. 🙂

You’ve given great advice there Colin. My ‘goals’ above were a bit tongue in cheek… I know there is a lot of hard work to come, and my aim is to get there… but I will be sharing my journey too so it is out there, just how hard the whole writing a viable book, publishing and marketing it…!
Honestly, I do have a serious head, I just don’t tend to show it too much on my blog, but I do dream, because if you don’t dream, you have no idea where you could go!

Dreaming is good. Where would we be without dreamers? However, dreaming serves little purpose unless followed by some actions! 🙂
