Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 354 – Preparations

img_00411

“Why is Christmas just like another day at the office? You do all the hard work and the fat guy inthe suit gets all the credit!”

Anon

Thanks, Spidey, for a gigglesome quote!

This year, for the first time, I feel totally underprepared for the festive season.

Sure I have the kids main gifts… (I think. Note to self, please go and check!) But aside from that, not much else. And a little something for Hubby Dearest.

I asked the in-laws the other day what they wanted, and hurriedly ordered small gifts from them.

So, wrapping is the next the stage.

But, for some reason, I don’t feel like being too prepared.

What with Omicrom now spreading through the UK, there is this high likelihood that restrictions may have to be put into place, again, maybe even before the big day, limiting the mixing of households, and certain gatherings.

Oh, I forgot, there is one thing I am kinda prepped for. Because of last year, and the same situation, I managed to get most of the Christmas dinner early, and froze it, and I was glad, because I ended up having to isolate on the main day, due to a close contact testing positive a few days before the end of term. So, I already have a turkey breast in the freezer, along with all the trimmings. It’s just dessert I haven’t got hold of, yet.

I want to go and see Pops and Mum, at some point, but looking at the way things are headed, it might not even be able to happen…

I just wish the powers that be, tell us soon, what the restrictions are going to be, so we can all be as prepared as possible… (Preferably before they embark upon another season of clandestine partying behind No. 10’s doors!)

So, how prepared are YOU for Christmas, this year?

namaste

Wishing you a wonderfully peaceful Sunday, Peeps!

I have reached the panicky stage now. I have a pile of work to get through this week, which i keep looking through to see if it has somehow magically got smaller (it hasn’t) and I need to tackle the Food Shopping, yikes, and make sure that there is something for the vegan and the vegetarian and the no-cheese person. Yes, definite panic. Hope you have a good week.

Sounds like you have the right approach, not fretting too much and having an organised freezer sounds like a plan. KL ❤

Hopefully there won’t be heavy restrictions, Sister. At this point we have to make the most of the situation as we can and still create a wonderful Christmas. 🙏🏽💜

Hi Ritu, Now that we are ‘over the hill’ so to speak, age-wise. all the frantic shopping, wrapping and cooking, is mainly behind us – much as we enjoyed it at the time! – as our three adult ‘lads’ now have homes of their own and our youngest and his partner will be hosts this year, so we can relax. Aaah!. I’m sure your Christmas will work out just fine, Ritu. Enjoy and have a healthy, happy New Year. Cheers! xx

Not that I want to wish time away, but that would be lovely, some time in the future… being able to sit back and be waited upon, lol!
Merry Christmas, and a very Happy New Year to you and yours, Joy! xx

Hi Ritu, it is quite amazing that Omicron started here but we seem to be getting off quite lightly with serious cases and hospitalisations. I really don’t understand why. I hope the restrictions won’t be to severe. I am going off-line for a few weeks so I popped in to say good-bye and wish you a Merry Christmas.

I’m not sure if things are being hyped up by media again, or if there is a real threat. Whatever it is, many are worried, Robbie.
Wishing you and your family a very happy festive season, Robbie! ❤

Ritu, I shared that quote with a number of “empowered women” like yourself – while funny, it’s sadly still far too true in all walks of life…that said, I also want to compliment you for your advance food planning…we are getting whacked here in the US as well again, and it’s a “baton down the hatches” holiday it seems…glad you are staying safe! Happy holidays to you and your family!

It really is a reality many suffer, you’re right, John.
I’m just waiting for the last minute notice and trying not to be one who ends up panic buying!
Wishing you and yours a wonderful festive season, too!

You too Ritu. I expect the kids are getting excited now.
I’m as prepped as I’ll ever be I guess. I’d like to get fresh veg and a few savoury treats, but depending on how town is and how busy the supermarkets are will determine if I bother! I have
plenty, a lot of the naughty stuff, and hope a lot of it has a good shelf life so that we can spread it out!!
    Enjoy the holidays!!

Hi Ritu – I’m sort of ready, but not quite and my meals are not organized and I still have to wrap. What a great idea to do meal prep and freeze – I will try to do that next year! But, like you, I’m not stressed about it. It will all get done. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a healthy new year!

Love the quote!! What will be, will be. I stopped going crazy over Christmas a few years ago. Why didn’t I do that when I was working long hours around Christmas time. Sigh. A saying in my family is: you get too soon old and too late smart! (translated from German) Have a wonderful Christmas!

      That’s a great saying!
I think, when kids are around, you want to preserve the magic of Christmas.
My two are older, now, but still young enough to have a little anticipation.
You have a wonderful Christmas, Too! Xx

I agree Sis but tell me, how can you plan for something that’s on and off! We doubt we will see the grandchildren, then we think we just might, then the eldest son has now got Shingles due to a very stressful year! Middle lad is working on Christmas day! So I have no idea what will happen! We keep changing our shopping order taking things off and putting things on!
Ruby is a shining light so brave but it’s hard work at the moment we alternate sleeping downstairs with her nightly and changing her dressing hubby is now a qualified vet and me a nurse….😉💜💜💜💜

I have to confess, that quote made me giggle. I am sorry you are experiencing this stress which is meant to be the most wonderful time of the year.
I never experienced that, to be honest. I avoid being stressed out in December. I always had everything ready by the end of November or at least knew what I needed. Most of all now that I am not only employed, and have to organize everything for the whole family, I have my own business that is Christmas-related. I have to have my products made and ready to refill my sales spots. That means early planning. Also the presents are partly photo books, photo calendars, printed Christmas cards that need time to be made. So, this year, I started making a schedule at the end of September. I want to enjoy my favorite season, baking cookies, and wrapping gifts. It is worth planning ahead. Christmas is always on the same date which makes it easy actually.
I hope you get everything together that you want and need, dear sis. Much love 💖
