Chai And A Chat #181 #ChaiAndAChat

Hello Peeps! I can’t believe a week of the holidays has already passed!

Still, I am off another week, so I can chill with you as I let you know about last week!

  • If we were having chai I would tell you that I have had a week filled with appointments, reading and sleep. Which I really needed, and still do, to be honest. Nothing major planned, just bumbling around, and snoozing when I felt the urge. perfect!
  • If we were having chai, I’d tell you about my appointments. So on Monday, I had a nurse check-up at my new GP surgery. BP etc. was fine, but I have definitely put on weight, but you know what, I seem to have lost the urge to lose weight. I don’t feel it the same way I usually do. But other than that, all was fine. On Wednesday I was back there for a Drs follow up appointment because I seem to have a blockage in one ear. A special spray was prescribed, and I was able to leave. You know, I read reviews about this surgery and they weren’t great, but so far, I have had nothing but great service from them.
  • If we were having chai I’d tell you that on Tuesday I had a regular optician’s appointment, and thought I’d follow it up with a trip to the nail place with Lil Princess. The nail appointment was a success. She is so happy with her new nails! The opticians gave me the results I was expecting. After a great run of 13 years, my laser surgery is now starting to allow that natural deterioration to happen, and the astigmatism is showing its head, too. So, guess what, I will eventually need varifocals or bifocals! I never had long-distance sight issues; always short-sighted, but now I have the beginnings of distance vision deterioration, and I will definitely need glasses for reading and screen work! but, at this time of my life, I am actually quite looking forward to them! Lil Princess thought it was great fun watching me trying on frames, and helping me decide which would be the best for me. I shall model them in my next post, I guess! But for now, you can check out the nails!
  • If we were having chai I would tell you that cricket has well and truly started again. It’s been an expensive week, as we ordered Lil Man’s new kit, and paid for his yearly subs. But he is ecstatic! And the ground he will be training at is lovely. I have introduced myself to some of the other cricket mums who were there too. I think this will be a great place for him! He was meant to be playing a match on Saturday, but it got cancelled because of the waterlogged ground, so he got extra training, instead. Let me share with you the glory of this place!
  • If we were having chai I’d remind you of that garden chair, the hammock I mentioned a few weeks ago, which we didn’t have rope for. Well, it’s up, and we also took delivery of my newest favourite place to read. An egg chair! It is so lovely to sit in. We also installed a little birdbath, and had our first barbecue of the year!
  • If we were having chai I’d share with you, my gorgeous egg chair in more detail. We have been looking for one for a while, now, and this double size is perfect for curling up your legs and just relaxing. I am already seeing the arguments about who gets to sit on it. I have first dibs, obviously! But, if you are looking for a piece of garden furniture or even something to put in a conservatory, I recommend one of these!
  • If we were having chai I’d have to recommend this book, especially. When Our Worlds Collided by Danielle Jawando. Yes, it’s YA fiction, but so good. It is based in the UK, in Manchester and the story revolves around three black youths and how stereotyping and racial profiling affects their lives. I finished it in a day, I was so hooked. She is a great writer, and this is her second novel. Both are brilliant!
  • If we were having chai I would end, as always, with an image of Sonu Singh, this time chilled out on the table in the conservatory. What a cutie! 😻😻

This week I will continue to relax. Oh, and pick up the new glasses, too. Hubby Dearest has an extra day off, and it is the long Easter weekend, so hopefully, we can do something special. The biggest thing I can hope for is good weather! Have a great week, Peeps!

Chai And A Chat #180 #ChaiAndAChat

Hello Peeps, I can relax a little as I recap last week with you since I am officially on my Easter holidays! Yippee!

I’ll even be able to sip my drink, while it is still hot, too, and converse with you!

  • If we were having chai I would tell you that we finally got through to the end of term! The first two days, we were still on tenterhooks. Would that call from Ofsted materialise, or could we relax, just a little? Well, it didn’t so that was just fantastic. As I have said before, half of me wants it to just be done, but the other half is too tired and needs rest first. The children had a week filled with Easter learning and fun, and we were able to take tensions down a peg or two, and relax a little! I was even gifted a couple of Easter gifts, in the form of chocolate, and a lovely handmade flower!
  • If we were having chai, I’d mention that we had a fabulous end to the term with a quiz night! I have never been to a quiz night before, and the school have done them in the past. This time, it was a huge release. We had a Quiz and Chippy Supper in the school hall, with a BYOB system, so there were many a merry teacher, for whole exhaustion also contributed to the silliness. It was such a fun evening, and my team came 3rd out of 5, which we were very proud of!
  • If we were having chai I’d tell you that I have been suffering from strange blocked ears, or ear, rather, and some vertigo-like dizziness, so a phone call consultation with the GP led me to have an ear spray to try, and a follow up real GP appointment next week. I haven’t been inside a doctor’s surgery since before the pandemic started, so this will be strange. (Ear is still up and down, 4 days into spraying…)
  • If we were having chai I would have to admit that Post Covic fatigue is a thing for me. I am falling asleep at random times in the evening, and again by 9pm at night, then waking at 4-5am, because my whole system is so up in the air. The breathlessness is still evident, especially when I have a day in school and I cannot really slow down. But on days I am home, with not much to do, other than house stuff, it isn’t so bad. Hayfever, however, is definitely saying ‘hello!’ to me. As soon as the weather brightens, the pollen is attracted to me and my eyes, and the itchiness starts! Great!
  • If we were having chai I’d let you know that I have a new addition to my study in the form of Khushi, my new Calathea plant. I love large leaf plants, but many of them can be toxic to cats, and I have a cat who insists on munching on any greenery we have in the house! After research, I found this one, and I love her! Khushi means happiness, so that’s what I named her, as this is my happy space! Now, to ensure I keep her alive! (I’m not known for my green-fingers!)
  • If we were having chai I would end, as always with an image of Sonu Singh, who joined me on Saturday morning for a little cat massage. Always appreciated, my furry son, as long as your claws have been clipped!

This week I will be trying to lounge as best I can, with a couple of appointments to go to, as well as getting the kids out and active, instead of being typical teens stuck in their rooms! Might even have our first cricket match of the year on Saturday if he gets picked for the new club’s first informal match of the season! I am also hoping to get some writing done. If I can get this first draft done, it would be epic! (But, given the covid fatigue I am still experiencing, a few thousand words would be good!

Chai And A Chat #179 #ChaiAndAChat

Hello Peeps, another Monday has come, and we have another week’s worth of catching up to get on with.

Have you got your drinks ready? Mine is here!

  • If we were having chai I would tell you that, in a strange way, I was so excited about returning to school because even though the week has its fair share of stresses, we also had a fun day to look forward to, with the kids. I’ll start with the stresses… So I had a big meeting on Tuesday, an EYFS Audit, where two members of the Trust our school is a member of, came in and questioned me on various elements of my department, followed by a tour of the Early Years. One was on time, one turned up late… which meant that they didn’t get to see the amazing things my Teaching Assistants had sorted out for the children to be doing outside because it was almost home time before we got to go down there! Still, I think it went okay. Then, Wednesday, we had what is kindly called a Trust Development Day, but that masks the true reason. It is like a Mocksted. Basically, a practice mini Ofsted examination run, where all the heads of the other schools in the Trust, along with the CEO, come to scrutinise our school. Seeing as both my head and I are in recovery from covid, as well as two other key members of the leadership team, and two office staff, it wasn’t best timed, but something that we just had to do, seeing as it had been postponed, due to COVID several times already. And we had the added fun of the CEO of another Trust, and one of her heads coming too! Blimey, is all I will say, along with the fact that I had to conduct the whole of that morning, with meetings and tours, dressed as a Pirate Captain… see below! And it seems that it went well, too!
  • If we were having chai, I’d mention that staff shortages were also a thing, as one of my co-teachers had to take early maternity leave, so we were short for 2 days. However my other co-teacher stepped up and came in for a couple of extra mornings, to help with the staffing, and we also had a day with the new teacher who will be the maternity cover, as well. Then, on Friday, the second co-teacher fell ill, so we were short again. All I can say is thank goodness for volunteers, work experience students, and a fantastic team. We made it through!
  • If we were having chai I’d have to tell you that Pirate Day was spectacular! The children absolutely loved every moment of celebrating their term’s topic, and really got involved with every moment of the day! We all had a smashing time!
  • If we were having chai I would have to admit defeat to Covid. It was totally exhausting and O found that I was taking my inhaler several times during the day, and by the end of the day, I was shattered. I think I was asleep by 9pm most days…
  • If we were having chai I’d say that despite feeling not my best, the weather was again fantastic last week, and we enjoyed Saturday, with Hubby Dearest getting more things ready in the garden, including new flowers, solar lights and a firepit! The Barbeque was meant to arrive, but it didn’t. Never mind, still time for that to come too!
  • If we were having chai I’d have to mention that Sunday was Mother’s day, and though the clocks went forward, and I was still up at the crack of dawn, I was spoilt rotten! Lil Princess even made me a cake!
  • If we were having chai I would end with a pic of my furbaby Sonu Singh, enjoying the sunshine in the conservatory! He’s one LOOOONG Kitty!

This week I will be half praying that Monday goes by without the dreaded Ofsted call. If we get to lunchtime and nothing, then we can all breathe a sigh of relief until after the Easter break. If we do, then we will be under big stress until the end of Wednesday! I don’t know if I just want them to call, so we can get it over with, or not! Other than that, it is the last week of term, filled with Easter fun. The kids finish on Thursday, and we are having a staff social night on Thursday Evening, in school. A Big Quiz and Fish and Chips! We are back in on Friday for an INSET day, then it is the holidays for two weeks! Roll on this week!

Chai And A Chat #178 #ChaiAndAChat

Well, if you read Spidey yesterday, you’ll know exactly how my week went, but if you didn’t grab that drink so we can have a catch-up!

  • If we were having chai I would admit that last week’s shortened Chai was brought to you by Covid (the Deltacrom varient, we think.) Yes, I tested positive the Friday evening before, so I was really not very well. I am much much better than then, now, however I have issues with breathlessness, so will be going everywhere with an inhaler for a little while… Other members of staff tested positive, too, and I am aware that quite a lot of children were off over the week, as well. I am just so, so thankful for my team, who rallied around and ensured that the children didn’t suffer not having their teacher in school with them. They also sent me flowers, which I ws so, so touched by! And we had a decent supply for the whole week, too, which in itself is a miracle, because a lot of schools have had staff shortages due to the sudden influx in positive tests, and not been able to find cover, meaning year groups have been sent home, with remote learning having to take place.
  • If we were having chai, I’d mention that despite me being really unwell, we managed to contain it, and no one else tested positive in my household, so Yay to that!
  • If we were having chai I’d say that despite one extremely wet day, the week was actually rather pleasant, weatherwise, and we had a beautiful spring weekend, where this virus allowed me to at least enjoy the garden.
  • If we were having chai I would say that we also quietly celebrated Sonu Singhs 8th Gotcha Day with us. He;s been with us since he was 8 weeks old, and his such a character. He has been sitting with me throughout this virus, coming up and giving me his cat cuddles. I would not be with our our furbaby.

This week I will be back in school minus one of my teaching staff, who had to go on her maternity leave early, and with two rather stressful visits/meetings to contend with, in the first half of the week. I shall have my trusty inhaler with me to get me through, and no doubt will be asleep before my head hits the pillow, most nights, too!

Chai And A Chat #177 #ChaiAndAChat

Another week that felt a month long…

Is your drink ready?

  • If we were having chai I would tell you that I am not feeling too bright, so today will be a very short chai..
  • If we were having chai, I’d mention that school has been up and down. Kids in and out, so many other things on our minds, and the whole situation with Covid not getting any better… But, I had a very productive meeting with the parents of one of my children, and the Governor’s visit went swimmingly!
  • If we were having chai I’d say that I have not been able to get into gear with my writing again, because I have too much going on.
  • If we were having chai I would excuse myself because I am feeling rather rough… Maybe an extended chai next week?

This week I am focussing on just getting through. There are staffing issues, being run down, as well as all manner of other things happening, that I can’t even think about right now!
