#SoCS July 7/18 – Sup

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “sup.” Use it as a word or find a word that contains it. Have fun!

‘Sup?

I was on a break, ya know… I needed a time out… lost my spark… my Blo-Jo had totally gone.

So I spent the best part of six weeks doing nothing really creative.

I read.

Even reading took its toll. I was so tired, I was falling asleep partway through pages, but I enjoyed a good few books.

Then there was school.

It’s the last term of the year and there are still 2.5 weeks to go for us… assessment, reports, progress grids… sorting out class lists for next year…

And we converted to part of an Academy. It was supposed to be a simple changeover, and by and large, it has been, but there are always teething problems, and as part of the changeover, I am no longer a Governor. I really enjoyed being part of the governing body, but it is a lot of extra work, so, unless they decide they’d like to reappoint me, I’ll enjoy the breather!

Being mum has been interesting too… Lil Man turned Teenager officially, Lil Princess turned four eyes (part-time, for reading and screen) and all the hormones flying around the house are incredible!

But I’m back now, trying to post regularly, as, despite being exhausted, I really missed my challenges and those little sparks of creativity, well, they keep me sharp for when I begin my novel rewrite in earnest in the summer holidays!

I entered the first 3000 words into a first novel writing competition too… won’t hear (if I do at all) until September so I have to keep myself busy!

I’m also due to become an aunt any time soon too! My 3-year-old nephew will be becoming a big brother, and the world will be gaining another Finndian!

So, there’s my lil #SoCS for today, thought I’d update you on the world of Ritu!

Catch ya later Peeps!

Happy Saturday Peeps!

#SoCS May 19/18 – Hollow/Empty

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “empty/hollow.” Use one, use both, entirely up to you. Enjoy!

It’s funny isn’t it.

As a parent, you crave that time to be together as a couple, without kids constantly bickering and calling out for your attention.

And when you get that time, you get that empty feeling within. It’s like nothing has any real meaning, because the kids aren’t around.

I’m feeling that at the moment, as I write it, the night before scheduling the post.

On Saturday, we are travelling up to London to the Annual Bloggers Bash, and as we have to leave a little early, we decided that rather than drag the kids up extra early on a Saturday, they can spend the Friday night with their grandparents, where they are staying Saturday night anyway.

So, we’ve dropped them.

And are back home, and it is QUIET!

It’s like the house has lost it’s soul, a hollow shell of a building, with no children in it.

Saturday will be different as we are away, and that is meant to be a treat for the two of us, but this Friday, home definitely doesn’t feel right.

Right, I’m off, can’t ramble today, need to pack!

Catch ya later Peeps!

#SoCS May 12/18 – On The Farm

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “on the farm.” Find a word that has a farm animal sound in it, i.e. sMOOth, and use it in your post. Bonus points if you include three or more. Have extra fun!

Well, this may be the most random post ever, and I apologise in advance Peeps! But what a doozy that naughty Linda has given us today!

I’m looking forward to some sMOOching next week with my Hubby Dearest, away from the kids, as we are having a weekend away, with the Bash as the highlight of our stay. It’s not often you get time alone as a couple, instead, always having the kids trailing behind wherever you go! And I shan’t be praying to any BAAl deities for abundant fertility  – no thank you, two is enough! I spend so long screaming like a banshee at these two, I already worry about what the NEIGHbours think!

SoMEHow I managed to finish this, PHEW!

How did I do???

#SoCS May 5/18 – Letter

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “letter.” Use it in your post or theme your post on any meaning of the word “letter.” Enjoy!

I love receiving letters in the mail.

Not the constant bills and junk mail that see their way into our post, but real, proper letters.

When I was a young girl, there was no such thing as email, and even when it was first widely available, it wasn’t immediate, because most of us had dial-up connections, and I think if you are in my age bracket, you will be able to remember the pain of hearing that screeching as the internet connected, and if you were lucky, you could access that haloed mail!

After that, you got mobiles with text messages, and the likes of WhatsApp etc. joined the ranks of communication. Straight away messages and calls. Heck, you could even video call, and see someone halfway around the world!

Of course, I use all these methods of keeping in touch with a lot of my family and friends now, but I sure miss the joy of opening an envelope to read a hand-written letter and the art of crafting a letter to send to a loved one.

My family were all over the world, so I used to (or my parents did, anyway!) stock up on airmail letters, so I could write to my cousins. I would tell them all my news and ask the relevant questions, then go to the post office to pay for my stamps.

I knew it could take a week or more for the letter to reach its destination, and then there would be a delay of a few weeks for a reply to come.

But the excitement of getting that letter, in your name!

Then there were the ones to my Hubby Dearest when he was still my fiance! Pages and pages of soppy romantic “I miss you and I love you’s”… I would know when the reply was due, because he’d have told me on the phone that he was sending a letter. I would wait by the letterbox. The mail was more regular in it’s delivery time then. I knew exactly when the postman would be visiting.

Then I’d hide my precious mail, and read it in my room, all alone, feeling all gooey inside, before rushing off to pen a reply!

Oh yes, those feelings of a real letter!

I think today’s generation really miss out by just having this messaging available to them. They don’t learn the art of patience, or gratitude either. They don’t have as many reasons to keep their handwriting skills tip top, or even the knowledge of how to write a letter.

And they miss out on the joy of receiving a letter in the post.

I didn’t want my kids to miss out, so they have, on occasion, written to their grandparents, and their uncle in Finland, and been really thrilled to receive the responses. It was funny watching them wait, expecting a reply that same day, or the next… sorry dears, even in this day and age unless we paid for courier delivery, that wasn’t likely!

And recently Lil Princess has had the pleasure of a pen pal as her best friend moved away from the area, so she was so happy to get a letter from her! They write, intermittently, to each other, and I’m so glad she’s keeping letter writing alive for another generation!

What about you? Do you miss receiving letters, or do you still write them?

Happy Saturday Peeps!

#SoCS April 28/18 – Why/Y

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “Why/Y.” Theme your post on a word that starts with “Y” – bonus points if you start or end your post with “Why.” Have fun!!

Yesterday – the wisdom we could glean from all that happened ‘yesterday’.

Hindsight is a great thing, so they say, so why do we end up making the same mistakes again, and again, and again?

When things don’t take the route you had planned, it’s wise to look back upon your steps , and remember the lessons learned.

You don’t want to end up following the same road again, then thinking “Why?”
