“Birthdays are good for your health. Studies have shown that people who have more birthdays live longer.” – Unknown

41.

I am definitely in my 40’s now, aren’t I??

Well, it’s been a great year, being 40, and I look forward to all the challenges that 41 will bring to me too! From year two in my own class, to sending Lil Man off to Secondary School…

I am off to manically get ready for school tomorrow now, and prepare my self mentally for the start of another academic year!

Have a great Sunday Peeps!

“Do not be so proud and do not laugh at others or the less fortunate, your boat is still out at sea and who knows what is yet to come your way.” Kabir Ji from the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

Fishing through wonderful quotes, Spidey and I found this one. It is from the Sikh Holy Book, the eleventh and ever-living Guru, the Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

It is so easy to find humour in the misfortunes of others. I think no one could really be able to promise, hand on heart, that they have never had a giggle at that stranger tripping up in the street, or the countless videos that circulate social media, cashing in on others and their unfortunate circumstances.

We are all a little guilty of that, and to some extent, I feel that it is ok, if the joke is being laughed at, by the person who is the subject of it.

But the reality of this quote is more to do with those who have plenty, are lucky in life, and still find the time in their pampered lives to sneer at those who don’t have it all.

Thing is, no one knows what the future holds. Who knows if and when your life could get upended, and those with it ‘all’ lose it at the drop of a hat, and equally, those with nothing, by some stroke of luck, or through sheer hard work, end up the ones with all they could want.

We are all born equal.

Our location, circumstance, colour, wealth, health, means nothing to a baby, and even to a small child. Watch small children and how they interact with everyone without prejudice. It is only as they grow that the seeds of doubt are planted.

So if you are one of life’s more fortunate ones, be grateful for what you have, and never ridicule others for what they don’t have. And if you are still waiting for that luck to hit you, never lose hope, no one knows what is round the corner!

Have a blissful Sunday Peeps!

“I don’t think of the misery but of the beauty that still remains” – Anne Frank

What a truly positive quote to start this Sunday with.

A small girl who inspired so many…

Even through all her sad experiences, her words truly inspired many all these years after they were written. A diary that she probably never thought anyone else would read. She was able to still see the sunshine through the clouds.

A diary is a wonderful thing to keep. I kept many over the years. And this blog is almost a journal of my last couple of years. But the actual actions of writing, physically, in a diary, now that is a skill I believe we should all pass on to our children.

I was so happy that my own two were so excited by their new desks (lovingly built by yours truly!) that they promptly sat down last night and started scribbling away in their own diaries!

And tonight, they were there again…

It makes me proud to know I have somehow managed to foster the love of the written word within my own children, whether it be their own writing or reading books. Who knows… maybe you’ll be reading one of their books!

I’ll leave you with a question Peeps, and in the meantime, have a wonderous Sunday, chilling, just spare a thought for Ritu, tirelessly sorting through boxes……

How have you, or will you encourage your own children, or young people around you?

“If bad decorating was a hanging offence, there’d be bodies hanging from every tree!” – Sylvester Stallone

I hope Spidey is not casting aspersions on my decorating skills here!

It’s been a heaving furniture, sanding, preparing walls-ing, paint splattered few days, and we have at least one more to go.

The hopeful end result is a pair of rooms, blank canvases for our kids to finally have their own rooms. You should see the house.. Each crevice filled with stuff from their shared room, as well as the contents of our study! Man, we have a lot of stuff… With me, it’s books, arts and crafts supplies and stationery. The kids have books, and toys… So many toys!

Personally, I think the easy part was emptying the rooms… It going to be much harder putting things back, and being selective about what they keep, and what we donate, or throw away… Then, I need to pack some of my less used things for storage (no way am I throwing my collections of stuff away!! Do you know how much money I’d be wasting!). We need to convert our dining area into a part dining, part study area… Oh this will be fun!

Back to the quote. I’ve never decorated, like proper decorated, from start to finish, before.

Once, I was let loose with a tin of paint and brush, it ended in disaster!

In one of the rented houses we lived in as students, we asked the landlord if he minded us painting the walls. He was fine with that.

So off we trotted to the DIY store.

Came back with all we needed.

Started painting.

For some reason, my paint wasn’t drying… Then I realized it was dry, but I had picked up gloss instead of Matt wall paint!

We didn’t have money to do a repair job, so I spent a year with gloss walls, that were wet every morning from condensation! Wonderful!

This time, under the guidance of my experienced sister in law, we have made good progress, but there are still issues…

  1. I do not have a steady painting hand!
  2. I don’t like the smell…
  3. I do not have a steady painting hand!
  4. I can’t keep my hands clean…
  5. I do not have a steady painting hand!
  6. I manage to get paint on my hair
  7. And finally, I do not have a steady painting hand!

Today hopefully will be the last painting day, applying the colour on the walls. But there will be a few mistakes, there will be places where straight, clean lines will be wobbly or blurred, there will be paint on the carpet (oops!), but hopefully we will step back and look proudly at our first properly decorated rooms… And think,”Never again!”

But I have a bedroom, and hallway, and living room that needs sorting out too… I may just leave them to professionals…but I don’t know… Right now I don’t think the decorating bug has hit me… But after a few days I may miss the smell of turps, and wet paint emanating from my hands and hair!

As for you all,p I hope you have a lovely, relaxing Sunday Peeps!

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 77

â€śThe world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.”  Albert Einstein

Is this not something we surely need to tackle?

What truth.

We, as humans, have evolved and developed, and as we have grown and changed, so has the world around us. From the foods we grow and eat, to the way we dress, from the way we move, to the way we communicate.

Development has also coloured our thinking, conditioned us to feel certain ways about particular races/religions/ animals/foods.

If we truly want to be able to view a future for our children, that doesn’t hold a sense of dread, a future where we feel excitement at what it may hold for them, then somehow, we need to all change our thinking.

Open mindedness, freedom of though, belief and speech, letting go of stereotypes.

When something bad happens, the punishment needs to punish the doers, not the rest of the community loosely connected to them by colour or faith.

We need to not be afraid to hold a hand out to help others in need.

I love this wave of RAoKs (Random Acts of Kindness).

But why is it random?

Why can’t it just be part of our nature?

Why are we so fixated on our looks and size?

There weren’t scales thousands of years ago. It’s what we see around us that subconsciously tells us what is right and what is wrong, what is hot and what is not. Because society and the media told us so.

Take time to ponder. Try and see which part of your thinking could do with a refresh…

Have a wonderful Sunday Peeps!

❤️
