#WritePhoto – Pillars

Sue’s #WritePhoto Prompt this week:

The pillars created a corridor of sorts, leading to an archway that brought me closer to my destiny.
Beyond that archway was the spot where I would devote my whole life to my chosen cause.
Each pair of pillars, in turn, seemed to represent all I was giving up.
My home.
My job.
My freedom.
My family.
My love.
My name.
My guilt…
But I was forsaking them for Him. And him.
As I approached the archway Mother Mary stepped forward, her smile beckoning me closer and it pulled me forward quicker.
“Come, my child, it is nearly time.”

The next time I walked by those pillars, I had shed all my worldly belongings and relationships – and my identity.
“Come, Sister Faith, let me show you to your room.” Inside, I smiled.
No one would find me here. No one would ever have to know…

One-Liner Wednesday – #1LinerWeds Pantstastic!

“My colleagues think I’m Pants-(tastic)!” – Ritu

This will be the slogan on badges I think I am going to make for a new initiative I’ve started at school!

Yup, it’s that “Art of Brilliance” course that inspired it again! Check my post out about it here, if you haven’t seen it before!

He talked about special pants and the fact that every day is special, so we shouldn’t save our special pants for a particular day, but make each day count.

I got to thinking, after having seen a staff appreciation wall in another school, and came up with an underpant related idea for our establishment, and ran it past my Head, who loved it!

Anyone can take a pair of appreci-pants and write a comment celebrating another member of staff, or thanking them. It makes you feel pants (tastic) when you are appreciated!

So, here’s the poem I penned…

And these are all the bits and bobs I put together to create the display. It has been introduced to the staff who will hopefully take it on board. Whoever has seen it has said the love the idea!

I’m hoping plenty of pants will be up there over the next few days!

The badges were an idea of another colleague – I am so tempted!

Colleen’s Weekly #Tanka Challenge #102 – Vigour & Energy #MicroPoetry

Colleen’s tanka challenge, as always includes the premise that only synonyms for the prompt words must be used…

This week, the words were;

Vigour & Energy

Sorry sis, I had to write it the British way, not the over the Atlantic way!

Vigour, not Vigor!

Lorna’s Gin-spiring Prompt #3 – How Far Have We Travelled From Home? #Ginspired

The lovely Lorna over at Gin & Lemonade With A Twist Blog has started a new writing prompt.

She hasn’t named her challenge, so I have – Lorna’s Gin-spiring Prompt!

This week, we have the words: How far from home have you travelled?.

Well… I have managed to rack a few countries up under my travelling belt over the years… not as many as some, but a good few!

amCharts

My travel map!

It’s not as accurate in that it covers the whole country whereas I may have only visited a city that is closer to home than the map shows.

But I have visited

  • Kenya many times, due to our familial connection, discussed last week.
  • India a few times
  • USA
  • Canada
  • France
  • Spain
  • Finland
  • Russia
  • Barbados
  • St. Lucia
  • Jamaica

I think that’s it!

And from that list, when I researched the cities I went to, the furthest is Vancouver Island, or Victoria in Canada! (4,717 miles)

Close (by a couple of hundred miles) after is Kenya, Mombasa( 4,496 miles) and India, Mumbai (4,466 miles).

I thought Russia would be the furthest, but we were in Moscow so it was closer than I thought! (1,554 miles).

So, there you have it!

And I do hope to add more countries to that list in the future!
