Well I Wasn’t Expecting That… 😐

It was an eventful week last week at school with Lil Man.
* a whack to the back of the head on Monday from a ‘friend’ at school
* a football in the chest, winding him on Tuesday
* a telling off from the deputy head for being a bit silly on Wednesday
* a swollen finger after basketball club on Thursday
* suspected it was broken on Friday, got it checked by a first aider, who suspected no breaks but extreme bruising…

Saturday, no football for him, but then Lil Princess complained of a heel hurting…
Inspected it, no splinters, but a lump. It hurt when she put pressure on it.

So I tried to ring the doctors on Monday for appointments for both… This is the 26th, yeah? An appointment suggested for the 13th Feb!
Really??!!
I managed to coax one for today, the 30th.

But they only booked Lil Princess. Its ok, our Doc is lovely, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind helping out by checking the other Lil one out too!
Well, we got there, he checked her heel, nothing he could see or do, apart from recommend a padded insole… Right…

Then I requested he check Lil Man who had a verruca that wasn’t going away… Ok, checked, then moved onto his finger, which had started swelling up again. He confirmed no break, but strained ligament, so to take care.

Dare I ask for more? He’d already seen one extra patient, and signed for a prescription for me… But I was concerned today, my thumb, fore finger and middle finger of my right hand have been feeling like they have pins and needles since late morning, or numbness…

And I left the surgery with the news I may have Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.
Wonderful.
I’m to see how it goes for a few days and if no improvement, to return.
Best case scenario – it’s all ok
Or I need a splint hand strap
Failing that, injections…
Worst case scenario – an operation, on my right hand…

Told you, I wasn’t expecting that!!!

I came here for the kids, who came out with nothing major, and I came out with a possible diagnosis for a potentially debilitating condition!

Great.

The Ride Of Life

It’s been a weird week,my emotions, for various reasons have been up and down.

Maybe I’m just extra tired, maybe I need a change of some sort…

But what?

I love my family, I wouldn’t change them for anything, even though ‘certain’ members give me broken sleep!

I love my job, working with children is exactly what I have always wanted to do, my whole life, even though a little more money would be very welcome!

I love my home, stained carpets and all, even though another bedroom wouldn’t go amiss!

I love writing on my blog, and reading others posts, even though a little more time to develop what I write would be appreciated!

Maybe it’s my thinking I need to change…
Look at the above.
All these aspects of my life I have to be grateful for, yet, there is always something that would satisfy me more…
Maybe I need to be happy with all I have, and not constantly think ‘what if?’…

I know it’s good to strive to better yourself, but surely we should enjoy the ride of life as it is. Sometimes it is a sedate steam journey leg, when life is chugging along just fine, sometimes a roller coaster of exhilaration, or fear. You get the airplane rides, when things couldn’t be better, you’re top of the world, there are those submarine rides when you feel you couldn’t get any lower…
But, like in reality, all these ‘rides’ along with others are an experience which colour our lives in one way or another. They are each an opportunity to take away some lesson or another.

So, you know what, I need to buck up my ideas, get outta this silly rut I appear to have got myself into, and be thankful of what I have… Who knows what leg of my life journey is round the corner…?

But I Smile Anyway

When a cloud appears
In my sky,
I sit and wonder,
I ask God why.

Still I smile anyway

It all happens
For a reason, they say.
And I think
We’ll find a way.

So I smile anyway

Negative thoughts,
They try to push through,
Trying their hardest
To make me feel blue,

But I smile anyway

Then I think about
All that is mine.
Things are great,
I’m feeling fine.

And I smile anyway

It’s true, what they say, ‘a smile costs us nothing, but gives so much.’
A smile, the most priceless possession you have.
Still, though it has such immense value, don’t hide it away.
The more you use it, the more you show it, the greater the happiness it brings.

Smile everyone! 😀

To Dye Or Not To Dye

I sat here agonising this morning. I looked in the mirror and was greeted with the ‘Roots From Hell‘!!!!

Ok, ok, they aren’t really that bad, in fact for anyone else, unless you came up close and inspected, you wouldn’t even notice!

But for me, I can see them, they are practically waving at me saying “Hi! remember us!  We are your original hair colour!!! And we have the all new white in here too!!!”

As an Indian, my hair is naturally very dark, and though I never wanted to go the polar opposite, I’ve experimented with all manner of styles, from high lights to low lights, various shades of browns, coppers, all sorts, in the name of fashion, and ‘looking good’.  I remember once asking for some chunky high lights, you know. flashes of colour as your hair moves.  Well, I came home to a 1 year old Little Man who sat and stared at me in wonder for ages.  Why was he looking at me like that?  Well, when I checked in the mirror, what hadn’t been glaringly obvious in the salon or coming home as it was a late evening, and dark, was that the lovely hairdresser had given me fine, not chunky, blonde highlights all over, and I actually did look ‘blonde’! No wonder he was looking at me strangely!  I hated it, and went back the next day to get it all toned down!

Then necessity set in.  Years of experimenting, and then I noticed the white strands peeking out from my mop.  Only the odd one, and with my curls, quite hard to see. But that was the problem. I had seen!  OMG!!! I was getting white hair!  Oh woe is me!!!! Where did they come from???  I got all the oldies in the family saying it was my fault. I shouldn’t have messed with my perfectly lovely (but boring) natural hair.  Was it?  Should I have not touched my hair? Oh well, no point in lamenting now. It’s not like I can go back in time!

So now, it is a case of I have to, rather than I want to.  I am the expert in home colour (why spend upwards of £60 for a block colour, when you can do it yourself for a tenner?!).  But it does creep up on me, everytime! For a few weeks things look great, then I start to see this band of very dark hair at my forehead, peppered with white (yes there is more now!) and I need to get the colour out and go back to my lovely chocolate brown instead!

My mum used to dye regularly to disguise the white, and then The Change set in and her every changing crazy hormones decided that they no longer liked dye.  Instead she would wake up to black or brown stained pillow cases every morning, as the sweats kicked in and after replacing a huge amount of bed linen, she gave up.  My Pops was happy, he wasn’t one for cosmetic beauty, he likes the natural look, and they are both growing older gracefully, with their salt and pepper locks (and beard in my Pop’s case!) and it suits them both too.

My MIL went white overnight in her 30’s due to some family stress, I am told. She wasn’t allowed to stay her natural lighter colour, it would make her look too old, so she has been dying and re-rooting every week for nearly 30 years. When I got married it was a very stark jet black she was using, so I did the daughter thing and helped her find a kinder shade, I mean if she was gonna have to do this, at least find something flattering. She’s an attractive lady, and the black was quite scary, if I’m honest! So for her, still a necessity but she looks lovely.  I do ask when she will stop, I mean FIL is a steel grey now, they could do the graceful thing too, but I think that is still a step too much!

Back to me and mine now.  My Hubby Dearest is known as the ‘silver Fox’ He looks gorgeous with his specks of white in his beard and hair, but he asks whether he should cover it. I tell him every time that he looks amazing as he is, and no he should stay as he is, so why can’t I take my own advice?  Gosh, life would be so much easier if I wasn’t worried about these silly things. Hubby Dearest says the same to me too, when I go to dye, he looks at me and rolls his eyes. but he knows I wont stop just yet.

I mean, a couple of years ago, I found my first white EYEBROW hair! Really??!! No, that’s not good! isn’t that just a step away from old lady whiskers???  Good God… does that mean the dreaded white will also be due to hit ‘down there’??!!!

So, I’ve done my duty tonight, I have revived my hair again, feeling good, and I think I need to stick to growing older dis-gracefully for a while longer!

What a load of rubbish!

I came down to the kitchen today, faced with exploding bins..

Well, ok, not quite, but there were the remnants of the takeaways the night before… takeaways, plural, yes, because we ordered in, then my BIL and SIL turned up with KFC too! I had left it out on the counter the night before, so I could put the trash out in the morning, but my Hubby Dearest decided to be helpful, and put it in the bin… well he stuffed it into an already heaving kitchen bin… instead of just emptying the whole thing into the outside bin.
Great, I thought, as I tried to extract the liner as neatly as possible. Nigh on IM-possible! As rubbish scattered everywhere, it reminded me of a sight at Hubby Dearest’s student house…

Going back a good few years, nearly 2, I think.  I came over to his student house, which he shared with 4 other lads.  Now we all know the image if student digs, and hey, they obviously didn’t want to disappoint!  I walked into the kitchen, and was greeted by what you would expect, not the cleanest counters, festering out of date items in the fridge, a sink full of dishes… and a MOUNTAIN, yes a MOUNTAIN ( sorry, I need to use CAPS LOCK for this, it was HUGE pile!) of full black rubbish sacks.  That’s good, you think they empty the bins, and are using bin liners… but why are they piled up in the kitchen??!!

And they all came and went, walked around this pile, which would have been so easy to just stick outside!  Goodness knows when the last time they had actually put the rubbish out for the bin men to collect…or, more worrying thought, was that the amount of cr*p they had accumulated in a week?!

But the icing on the cake… I was being the really helpful girlfriend, and decided that I would wash the dishes (actually I wanted a drink and the only glasses or mugs were in the sink!)  as I started being ‘clean up fairy’ one of the lads came in (not Hubby Dearest!) opened a can of baked beans, emptied it into a bowl, (God knows where he got a clean one from, I thought every dish in that house was in the sink, waiting for my attention!) and placed the empty tin, or should I say balanced it, on top of the mountain!  Not in one of the bags, or even in the kitchen bin, but on top of the pile!

I just watched, lost for words, as he did this, smiled at me and walked off!
