Remembrance Sunday

imageToday is Remembrance Sunday.  It is a day we reflect, and remember those souls who have given their lives for the safety of the country. On this day, and on 11th November, which is actually Remembrance Day, people wear poppies with pride, a symbol that has come from way back in the First World War.  In Belgium, in Flanders, there was possibly some of the bloodiest fighting, and lives lost. The area was razed to the ground, and the fields left as muddy messes… the only thing that survived, and continued to flower, year after year, were the poppies… these brought colour hope and reassurance to those still fighting.

So we wear these, to remember those who fought and gave their lives in order for us to be here today, living in the free country that we are.

We have a Remembrance march here on Remembrance Sunday, locally, where veterans, both old and young, and the Territorial Army, and Cadets do a Remembrance parade around the town. And on 11th November at “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” we hold a 2 minute silence to remember these souls.  Remembrance Day coincides with Armistice Day, when the hostilities of the Western Front finally ceased in 1918, at 11am on the 11th November.

I always wear a poppy with pride, and I also wear the special poppy, shown in the photo above, the Khanda Poppy, to specifically remember the Sikh soldiers who were drafted in during the World Wars, and who fought with equal pride, for the British Empire.

“Lest we forget.”

Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 39

IMG_0904“There are two ways to get enough.

One is to continue to accumulate more and more.

The other is to desire less.”
― G.K. Chesterton

What a great quote!  Isn’t it true?  If we are satisfied with what we have, and never expect too much, aren’t we happier? The more we want, the more we require from life, the more frustrated we become, and where is the serenity and happiness in that?

Sonu Singh Changes Direction!

wpid-20151102_203402.jpgYou know he showed us exactly how much he loved Wrong One Direction? No? Well, check it out here.

Sonu Singh is a bit of a turncoat, me thinks, as here he is, sat in Lil Princess’s school bag, which is TOTALLY One Direction! By the look on his face, I don’t think he was too impressed that he had been caught!

Don’t worry Sonu Singh, we all have our guilty pleasures!

Hugh’s Photo Challenge: Week 5 – Pair

Another Saturday, another photographic challenge by the lovely Hugh of Hugh’s News and Views! He has started an Instagram based photo challenge, whereby you are given a prompt and you post a photo illustrating that prompt, however you see fit.

The prompt today: Pair

Check out the challenge here.

And so to my photo…

wpid-20151010_213056.jpgImagine my happiness at seeing that prompt, when I had the perfect photo on my phone!

The other week, I cracked an egg to make eggy bread, as you do, and there they were, that pair of yolks! I always love finding the double-yolked eggs, it just makes that dish a little more… special… do you know what I mean? And I just had to take a photo!!

And it was a total coincidence that you have used eggs as well Hugh!!!

Sunny yellow yolks

What a magnificent pair!

They’ll look good on toast!

Throwback Thursday

Don’t you just love Timehop? It’s a great app that allows you to link several platforms, whether social media, your storage clouds or computer, together, and it shows you what you did on this day, over the last few years! It pops up and reminds you of days gone by. I love seeing the photos of my kids!

The other day this one came up, and it was actually from last year.

The weather was a tad windy!!!! As you can see from the interesting placement of the trampoline, and our swing seat!

Today it is a little windy, a lot wet, but thank heavens, no runaway garden furniture!

Have a great Bonfire Night, those attempting fireworks! We’re content to sit inside out warm home, and listen to those souls brave enough to venture out into the wet and wild weather here in Kent, and let off a few bangers!
