‘My Way’ – FFF42

Matt the Book Blogger is back with another wonderful #FFF prompt (Flash Fiction Friday!)

Neon Music Sign

This week’s edition will be on (drum roll please)… Frank Sinatra’s My Way. Feel free to base responses of anything to do with the song, I always enjoy any different takes!

Today we have the wonderful voice of Frank Sinatra to croon along to inspire us! (Is the singing along just me?!) And the song is My Way, a true classic!

So… here goes!

No fuss.
No show.
No craziness.
No feeding the five thousand.
No people I have not seen since I was in nappies.
No functions for two weeks in advance.
Just you and me… and the family of course.
A few close friends.
Food that we like.
Music we choose.
Sorry if your mum doesn’t like it.
It’s not her day, it‘s mine… ours.
Gone are the days of the parents paying for everything.
We’ve saved up and can pay for everything.
We decide what our wedding will be like.
Sorry, consoling her is your problem, we’re doing this MY WAY!

And just for the record… I was totally not like this!

My wedding was done with the true pomp and circumstance of the average Indian wedding.. I still watch the video (yes, video, I am that old!) and see people I don’t have a clue about, enjoying the festivities!

Seven hundred and fifty guests were there on the day! And only 200 of them from the boys side! (Yes I know may western weddings would gasp at 200 for the entire guest list! But that was a very small amount for the baraat, or groom’s side!)

Our functions started in earnest the week before, and we actually had the opportunity to rent our neighbour’s house to sleep some of the multitude of family who came from various international destinations to attend my wedding!

Would I change it? Not a lot!

Maybe if it was up to me there wouldn’t be as many people there, but the rest of it, well that’s the fun of a Big Fat Indian Wedding!

‘Once Upon A Dream’-FFF 37

I am so excited that Matt The Book Blogger is back with his Flash Fiction Foray Challenge!

Neon Music Sign

For those of you who haven’t seen this challenge before, Matt chooses a song, fro which we are to gain inspiration, be it from the title, lyrics or music, and write a flash fiction piece of no more than 100 words.

(Though he is being a little lenient, if you go over he won’t bite!)

This week Matt has chosen Lana Del Ray ad Once Upon A Dream, from the recent Maleficent soundtrack.

I remember the original version, all sweetness and light… this has a haunting, almost disjointed quality about it….

And so to our Flash Fiction piece…

He watched from behind his paper… she ran about, larking with her friends. She looked exactly as he had imagined. Somehow he had to get nearer to her, let her know who he was. Getting up, he tried to saunter over towards her casually.
She was running towards him, looking behind her, and careered into him.
“Oh, sorry!” she said.
“No problem,” he replied, and smiled.
She disappeared back to her friends, but not before looking back at him.
There was something familiar about his face… she had seen him somewhere before… Or had she been dreaming again?

I hope you enjoyed it! (Matt I hope it was worth it!)

‘Say Something’-FFF36 #Flashfiction

Tuesday is also Matt the Book Blogger’s Flash Fiction Prompt day!

Neon Music Sign

The prompt song is Christina Aguilera’s ‘Say Something’.

It’s funny, this song reminds me of my Lil Princess, as she always sings it, and I didn’t know what the song was… (Getting old, me!) Well, now I know!

Inspired entirely by the part in the video where the elderly man is with his sick wife… ( I had tears in my eyes watching that part of the video…

“Bet, say something. Bet? Lillibet? My sweet, I know you can hear me. Just give my hand a squeeze so I know you’re not annoyed with me. I’m sorry I didn’t get your favourite gingernuts. The doctor wasn’t sure you’d be up to eating them. But I did sneak in a Bakewell Slice. I know how much you love them.”

Frank looked at the sleeping figure, and his eyes welled up. His Bet was such a chatterbox, you couldn’t keep her quiet usually.

He felt a hand come to rest on his shoulder.

“Granddad, you need to say goodbye now.”

FFF #35 – Knights Of Cydonia

Tuesday means Matt has been busy finding a prompt for us…

Neon Music Sign

This week, a song I have never heard before, and not really many lyrics…

Knights of Cydonia by Muse

I don’t know why, but I ended up channelling the Toy Story Characters today!

Cydonia Mission

“Ok team, are we ready?” Captain Buzz addressed his passengers. “We reach the area of Cydonia in approximately 20 minutes. On landing, we need to be constantly aware of our surroundings. After all, we have no idea whether there is life here or not…but the Face of Mars is a sight to behold!”

Woody’s grip tightened on Bo’s hand. He was nervous beyond belief but had promised his best buddy Buzz that he would support him on this virgin mission to see whether that face was actually an illusion, or the tribute to Jessie that he thought he had built…

FFF 34 – Yesterday Once More

Tuesday is Flash Fiction Foray by Matt The Book Blogger!

Neon Music Sign

Today’s prompt song…

Yesterday Once More – The Carpenters

Feel free to base responses of anything to do with the song, I always enjoy any different takes! 100 words! Make em count!

And my entry…

Looking at all those happy faces in the photos, Edith smiled to herself.
Vera, Rose, Lizzy, Isabel and her.
That was her favourite snap, the five of them on the promenade in Brighton.
A day trip away from the confines of the city. They were so happy, ice creams in hands, holding onto hats that were threatening to be blown away by the sea breeze…
She closed her moistening eyes.
That was 65 years ago.
She was the only one left.
No amount of wishes would bring her friends back, but she couldn’t help wishing it was yesterday once more…
