#SoCS July 2/16 – Long

Linda’s prompt for #SoCS this week.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “long.” Use the word “long,” any definition. Enjoy!

It’s been a long day, no week, actually month, no, sod it, a LONG year, in school!

But has it? Seriously, I can’t quite believe that my first full year of teaching is due to come to an end.

At the beginning, as I got to know the children in my classes, I despaired. There was a class of angels in the morning, and a class of devils post lunchtime!

Literally!

Even my co-teacher said she felt for me, that this first year for me was like a baptism of fire!

I would end each day with my hair all over the place, like I had been dragged backwards through a hedge, and quite possibly, I had been, such were the kids, and their behaviours. This year was going to be LONG!

I had never been one to drink, but I found myself nursing a long drink or a glass of wine on several occasions during the first half of the year.

The first few weeks passed slowly, and in a haze. I was unable to believe the mix of children we had in one classroom, at the same time, and I despaired. The whole team did. This year seemed like it would never end. Most of my staff are older than me by 20 odd years. Full of experience, but at the ends of their tethers, dealing with this particular class. I was worried that I would come in one day, and be confronted by the news that one of them had handed in their notice

That was how bad it was.

It’s better now, marginally, but not perfect. They still aren’t where I would have hoped they would be, but still, it’s nearly time to say goodbye to them, and get ready to greet the new intake.

And now I am sat at the tail end of the year, and I look back, I realise that it wasn’t actually that long, really. In fact, the year has really sped by!

#SoCS June 25/16 – Drink

For Linda Hill’s SoCS Challenge.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “drink.” Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!

SoCS badge 2015

I’m not really a drinker. I’ve got older, and the pull to drink has pretty much disappeared.

I’m no angel, I’ve tried my fair share of alcoholic beverages. I have experienced the feeling of being drunk (sorry Pops and Mum!), being merry, tipsy in a giggly way, to possibly a little more!

And now I’m at this age, I always thought that I could be mature enough to enjoy a glass of wine to ease stresses, if need be. Well, to be honest, I have never really felt that need, and if I was to have a drink, it would probably just put me to sleep, rather than relax me! I am usually too tired to contemplate a drink of the intoxicating variety! If I was to drink, I would want to enjoy the feeling, not curl up in bed!

My drink of choice would be a hot chocolate with whippy cream to be honest!!! (No wonder I have put on weight!)

Books – SoCS June 4/16

Linda’s SoCS prompt this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “book.” Use any meaning of the word as your theme, or simply mention the word “book” in your post. Enjoy!

I love books.
My collection of children’s books is pretty extensive.
It started before I even had kids of my own to be honest, as I have always had the Teacher hat on, and if I saw a book that looked fun, I bought it.
My mum is the same, but her shelves were full of Danielle Steele, and Catherine Cookson, and nowadays, any family sagas, and war time home front stories.
She bought us books too, so when I became a mother, she presented me with a small collection of books saved from when I was a little girl, and the joy at seeing my own kids reading books I read as a child is immense.
My wish would be to have a room that I could call my library, and be able to store all my books… but alas, I don’t have that luxury, so as I read physical books, I end up passing them on to friends, or my mum, and only keep a select few.
In fact this is why I decided to get a Kindle, or I should say I was gifted it! I have a wealth of literature at my fingertips, and I don’t need lots of space!
It isn’t the same as a real book in my hand, that feeling cannot be replaced with an electronic device, but at least I can still read!
But I will not be parted from my children’s books!
The bookcase in the children’s room is sagging at every level. 5 shelves jam packed with books, and piles in front of it too!
I have two other bookcases. One is full of teaching resource books, and the other, partly fiction, and even more resource books. Some of these books are obsolete, and I should get rid/sell them, or do something, but I just can’t!
I struggle to walk past a bookshop… the smell of new books, those unbroken spines… thousands of words waiting to be read… but I have to be strong… and if I slip, and find myself inside, I allow myself a little peak, a sniff… then I walk out with a new list of books to buy!!!

I do whitter on… don’t I!!!

#SoCS May 28/16 – Press

Linda’s SoCS Prompt this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “Press.” Find a word that starts with press-, ends with -press, or use “press” as a word all by itself. Have fun!

I have a pressing need to write this post as soon as I can. After all, I shall be rather busy on Saturday. No time to be pressing keys on my Surface, or tapping my iPad screen.
It is going to be hard to express myself clearly today, as I am still keeping a BIG secret, and aside from a chosen few, no one knows.  I am able to keep secrets pretty well you know!
When Lil Princess was growing in my womb, pressing upon my bladder, we had the scan done, to see what sex our baby was. Knowing a little girl was coming to make our family complete was a dream come true, but we decided not to tell anyone…. That was HARD!
I love to talk, and am generally pretty open about everything, so when people were asking if we knew, my lips were pressed tightly shut. I wasn’t going to be the one to blab, not me! I was going to prove to my Hubby Dearest that I could keep secrets!
When she arrived, it was the most wonderful gift for everyone, and when I was finally able to confess that we knew, my mum called me a ‘little rascal’! A mother of 2 being called a little rascal at her maternity bedside! And by her mother! They were all actually impressed that I did manage to keep a secret for so long! And honestly, apart from Hubby Dearest, no one else but me knew! And the sonographer obviously!
Coming back to today, I am not actually being pressed to keep a secret from everybody, but I have to be careful not to let one person know something, hence the secrecy on here… because if I was to write something and they decided that it would be a good idea to read my blog that day, I’ll be buggered!
(Don’t worry, I have a scheduled post tomorrow which will reveal all! It may mot be a big deal for some, but it’s HUGE for me! Can’t wait to see the expression on someone’s face!!!)

There! That was some Stream of Consciousness there! and I managed to get Press into every paragraph somehow or another!!!!

#SoCS May 21/16 – Brake/Break

It’s Saturday SoCS time!

SoCS badge 2015

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “brake/break.” Use one, use them both, but whatever you do, enjoy!

Always use your brakes with your emotions… don’t speed off down the emotional highway without checking them. Slow down, make sure you are travelling down the right road… You don’t want to end up with a heart that breaks

Short and sweet today 🙂

Happy Saturday Peeps!
