Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 221

“No dream is ever chased alone.” – Rahul Dravid

Thank you Spidey!

Yes, it’s that time of year again, when Cricket Mum comes out.

Usually, cricket is the domain of Lil Man and Hubby Dearest, with me just helping out with training drop offs, and the odd match that Lil Princess and I go to watch. But this year, what with Hubby Dearest’s injury, it appears that all sporting activities will be attended by me…

And what a lovely quote by an amazing cricketer, Rahul Dravid. It’s all about team players. A cricketer himself doesn’t win a match but a combination of individuals, who pull together, who reach the ultimate end of a match.

It’s the same with life, and dreams we chase, isn’t it? There are very few things you can achieve totally alone.

Yes, you need the motivation and gumption to go after what you really want, but ultimately you need the support and guidance of the loved ones around you, the experts to help you, and those to appreciate whatever it is you are trying to achieve.

So I’ll be there with my blanket to watch the match (but I have to admit, my Surface, notebook and Kindle will also accompany me too!) to be there for my Lil Man, who is playing so well, and never asks for the support, but appreciates it greatly.

Hopefully we can bring his dad to one too, when it’s a little closer!

So… tell me, are you a team player?

#SoCS May 11/19

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “strain.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Strain… Oh yes, I’m definitely feeling that right now…

Ever since Hubby Dearest’s injury, which is definitely more than a strain, I have been shouldering all the responsibility of running the kids around everywhere, along with all my usual jobs, and coping with a person who is not always too happy being holed up in the house, unable to do very much at all, apart from sit…

I am shattered. And this weekend will be giving me no restful opportunity either. Saturday morning, Swimming lessons for Lil Princess, followed by badminton for them both.

I was hoping for a few hours of peace in the afternoon, where I could get my nails done or something, but no, we have a couple of hours then we will be meeting Hubby Dearest’s brother and wife to go and grab an early dinner, then on to watch a film… And Sunday, I have to be up early to get Lil Man to his first cricket match of the season… which finishes at lunchtime, and then we pop back home to see my parents who are coming over for an hour to see Hubby Dearest…

I’m going to start next week on the backfoot, again!

It’s not just a physical strain, but a mental one too… I am constantly thinking about him, and the kids, and what I need to get done next… never-ending…

So, strain… Yes. I know that feeling very well…

Strain
Feeling
Exhausted
Out of control
Not able to rest
Just constantly worried
About what is coming next
Every single day needing to
Plan with military precision
Yet still never finding time for myself

Finish The Story 2 – @Tanmay_and_Jain @darling_sascha – Writers Block

Sascha Darlington has set the first prompt, for which I have been selected as the first responder!

A New Design - Made with PosterMyWall (1).jpg

Prompt – A non-risk-taking writer has writer’s block, so they decide to do something they’ve never done before to inspire them.

Writer’s Block

Okay.
So, here I am.
Standing on the edge of the world.
Well, it feels like the edge of the world, but really, it’s just a very steep drop off a cliff.
What am I doing, standing here?
I’m afraid of heights…
And I thought I’d face my fear.
They say that if you find yourself stuck, at a dead end, creatively, that you should do something totally different. You know, outside of your comfort zone.
I’ve never had that problem before.
Usually, my fingers fly across the keyboard.
Stories just come to me.
But for the first time, I was up against a brick wall.
Nothing.
No ideas, no bursts of inspiration.
Nothing.
So, here I am, tentatively looking over the precipice.
It all looks rather small down there.
Very far away.
Got to take care not to lean too far over.
My insides are churning.
I can feel my breathing getting more and more shallow.
If I just focus on something…
There.
I see movement in the bushes below. Something causing a ripple in the greenery that sweeps the ground beneath my gaze.
What could it be?
Slowly the wheels start turning as inspiration seeps inside my mind.
Ideas start to fizz and pop in my brain.
Stories, plots, characters…

They were right, you know.
Sometimes you just need to push yourself, and the block will disappear…

May 9: Flash Fiction Challenge – Tooting Marvellous

Charli’s Flash Fiction prompt:

May 9, 2019, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about growing older. It can be humorous, dark or poignant. It can be true or total fiction. It can be fine wine or an old fossil. Go where the prompt leads!

Tooting Marvellous

Mabel sat in her armchair and glanced around her surroundings.
Look at them all — old fogies.
She was, undoubtedly, at least ten years younger than them. Goodness knows why they’d put her in here. There must have been some mistake.
But that silver-haired Derek, sat across the room, he looked rather dashing. Someone to get to know and, maybe, help ease the boredom.
Shifting slightly in her chair, she felt a build up in her stomach, and a loud fart escaped.
At least there were some benefits to growing old…No embarrassment factor; she could toot to her heart’s content!
