Yup, I was back at school last week for training, days, but that wasn’t real… no, that was a peaceful school environment, with no children around… but as of tomorrow, term starts.

My children start a new era in their own lives. Lil Princess is no longer an infant, and will be a Junior now! And Lil Man starts Year 6, his last year in primary school! I can’t believe that… where did the time go? Before I know it, both of my kids will be in secondary school!

And I get to meet my new classes in Nursery officially tomorrow.  It’s going to be a set of taster sessions this week, an hour or so, firstly with their parents, to settle them in, then we go in full on. Yes I have met them before, one on one, but this will be different, as they are actually starting… some children literally turned 3 at the end of August, so they will be teeny weenies!

I am anticipating plenty of blogger fodder from this, so I hope you will get to enjoy my experiences too!

Have a great start to the week everyone!

I’m definitely off to bed now for an early night!!!!!

He Did It!

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know that my son, Lil Man, has been in training with a football (Soccer, for my American Peeps!) team here, and this season, he has been selected for the actual squad! He is officially in the Under 11’s team!

Well, aside from a few friendlies that they played over the summer holiday, he hasn’t played a match, and unfortunately they have pretty much lost most of them.

But today was his team’s first official match, and they were playing a charity shield match, raising funds for Cancer Research.

They were hyped, it was a big un, as they got to leave with an actual trophy (or shield) today, and a medal each!

And you know me, I am NOT Soccer Mom!  I do NOT do sport of any kind, aside from having to drop him off to training, but, I do try to be a good mum, and I promised, that come hell or high water, we would all be there watching him.

And so there we were, watching this 30 minutes each way game, 18 pairs of little legs running back and forth on a pitch much larger than what they were used to!  My mum instincts were fighting to come out, I wanted to stop the match, go give them all rests, pick kids up as they fell and rolled around (yes the footy dramatics start at an early age!), but no, I was good. I reined myself in, and stood at the side line, not really knowing what to be shouting or what to say. At least I knew which side they were meant to be shooting at!

Offside rule? Nope, no clue! Yet these little ones are supposed to understand that already, their first match where it actually counts too!

He wasn’t on initially but 15 minutes into the first half, he was brought on, and played well.. I think he was Midfield… Excuse me, I haven’t a clue! They were even 2 – 0 up at this stage!

My Lil Super Player!

The half time whistle was blown, and everyone was buzzing! Yes, I admit, even I was kinda hyper… my son’s team was winning!

Lil Princess was there too, and missed the first half, as she was far too busy playing with a pair of Daschund puppies that were there with their owner!

By this time Granddad had come to fill his cheerleading squad, and Hubby’s brother and wife, so we had a nice little team of supporters, alongside all the other parents!

Second half, and he wasn’t playing to start with but was, again, swapped on 15 minutes in, and guess what… they actually WON the match!  5 – 0!!! A prouder bunch of Under 11’s (and parents) I haven’t seen!

An overjoyed bunch!

An overjoyed bunch!

I’ll admit, it was more thrilling than I thought.. I may go and watch a few more… and hopefully the first match, the first win, is a sign of what is to come this season.

Here he is, medal proudly displayed (behind the shield!), and holding the special Shield!

Proud Lil Man!

YouTube Never Ceases To Amaze Me! – Kids Logic Part 44

On our little break, there was the opportunity to horse ride.

Lil Princess was jumping with excitement at the chance, before we even got there!

I told my mum, and she answered that she would pay to see the face of Lil Princess on the actual day, she would probably be so scared she won’t do it! I, deep down, had the same thought, but wasn’t so vocal about it.

Me: LP, well. You haven’t actually been near a horse, or on one properly, you might be scared.

LP: No mummy, I know how to ride one, I learned!

Me: Really??!! When? [news to me!]

LP: I watched it all on YouTube!

Aaah, obviously, if you watch something enough on YouTube, you obviously know how to do it!

Extreme!……

untitledSix whole weeks off work! Boy aren’t you lucky, everyone says, and yes, to a degree they are correct.  6 weeks to theoretically not get up to go to work, and have to do things.

Usually these 6 weeks are used very practically, I do huge clear ups of the house, and the kids wardrobes, my kitchen, the living room, everywhere! Then there will be the week at least visit to my parents, and getting away a bit.  All the other days, I would think of things to do, with the odd down day to chillax…

That was the plan at the end of July, when we broke up for Summer Holidays. But I had to figure in a few days in school, sorting out the class room for the up coming new academic year too.  I got a bit of the tidying up done, as in the wardrobe clear outs, before a short and sweet visit to my parents.

During the visit, I was suffering from migraine-like headaches… not pleasant. But I am lucky to have a Pops who is a reflexology and Reiki trained individual.  He did some special massages to relieve the headaches, which worked. As he massaged a certain point on my hand he could see me wince. “Does that hurt there?” he asked. I nodded, and he then explained that the point he was touching was the Thyroid gland point.

The pain there is indicative that there could be problems brewing in that area, so he taught me to self massage the relevant area, to my benefit.

We came home and the rest of the holiday continued.  This time however, I have not had the get up and go, or energy to do anything.  I’d be up early, as the children wake, then there was no enthusiasm to actually get tidying, as I wanted to do.  Even getting out and about with the kids was a chore.

My Pop’s words about the Thyroid issue were playing on my mind… what if I have an underactive thyroid gland? Medication for life, and all craziness… I knew I should get to the doctor, but I was just too scared.

Last week, I had two coughing kids, and I thought I had better get them checked out before term starts, and as I was there, I booked an appointment for me too, I suppose I should get checked out too.

He asked all the questions, checked I wasn’t depressed, or that I wasn’t losing weight, causing the tiredness and lethargy, and sent me of to get my bloods done. “Just call in a week to 10 days, for the results. We’ll only call you if there is anything urgent.”

That was Wednesday, just gone.

Yesterday, whilst at school, I got a message from my Hubby Dearest saying the Dr’s surgery had called, and that I needed to call them back.

Alarm bells started to ring straight away. It had been barely 2 days since the test… oh God, what have they found?

It was going to be something awful about my thyroid, wasn’t it?

I called and well, it wasn’t the Thyroid, but instead, apparently I have a Vitamin D deficiency.

So now I have to take 5, (yes FIVE!) Vitamin D capsules every morning, but I don’t know how long for.

I hope this is the reason for my lethargy, I guess time will tell.
