Blogging 101 Task 9 – Inspiration from a Neighbour – Have Faith, He Does…

A little repost of an older piece of mine.

Remember my task yesterday? I had to visit, and comment on blog posts I hadn’t commented on before…here.

Well, today my task is to choose one of these posts as an inspiration point for a post of my own.
I have chosen to use this article on Peace During The Journey to remember a time in our life, a few years back…

I love my Pops.  If you have been reading from early on, you’ll know the profound effect he’s had on my life. (If not catch up here).

Ask my Pops how old he is, and he’ll say “11, just a year older than [Lil Man]!”

11?  My dad?  When I’m due to be 40 in a few short months?

Yup. 11.

And this all stems from his faith.

11 years ago, on March 1st, I got a missed call that devastated me.  I was at work, and my mum never calls during work hours… never.  So to see a missed call frightened the heck out of me.  I asked permission from my then boss to call back, and tried the house phone…no answer. I called her mobile…not on.

I tried the surgery (Pops was a dentist before retirement).  His dental nurse answered and she was hesitant to speak to me.  “Call your husband, please, he knows everything.” she said.  then and there I knew something major was up.  I convinced her to tell me and she reluctantly informed me that Pops had been taken to hospital… suspected heart attack.

NO! No! no!… What was she talking about? I had been with them just the day before, and all had been relatively fine.  We live 3 hours away so with some hesitation, I had come home the previous night.  I hadn’t wanted to leave them that night, but I knew I needed to be back.  Something had been pulling me to stay, but I had ignored it…why?!

I informed my big boss, who was a superstar, and sent me home, telling me to take all the time I needed to make sure my parents were ok. Luckily Hubby Dearest was working from home, and had indeed had a call from my mum, telling him the details.  She had told him not to tell me over the phone, but to get me home first.

We hurriedly packed, and left. I was driving, as he was not a licence holder then.  I got a call on my mobile as we were nearing the turn off to the hospital.  He answered.  It was my brother.  Typical male, I thought, as he was asking personal details for Pops and Mum.  They are his parents too! Why didn’t he know them?! I understood mum couldn’t answer, she was probably with Pops.

We pulled up at the hospital and Hubby Dearest took a deep breath…”Don’t panic…” (and you know the panic that phrase itself instils in your heart) “…but mum’s been admitted too.”

WHAT??? What was going on?  I just had to get inside and see everyone, make sure my brother, who was on his own, was ok too.

After locating him, he managed to tell us the details.  Pops had chest pains, so instead of ringing an ambulance, he sauntered to the doctors surgery, which was around the corner from our house and his own Dental Practice.  They had checked him and told him he really needs an ambulance.  He said not to worry, he would just mosey on home himself, and get ready, and call one from there.

Mum, meanwhile was in a state. She had been extremely unwell suffering from awful haemorrhaging due to the menopause, and was almost bedridden herself.  The ambulance was called, my brother informed and they went off to the hospital. Yes he had indeed suffered a heart attack, thankfully minor, but still  A HEART ATTACK!

As he was wired up to the various monitors and regulators, stable, my brother said he looked at mum, who went a deathly shade of pale, and promptly collapsed…  a dead faint!

The worry had kept her going, but as she knew Pops was in safe hands, she finally had given in.  So now we had both parents in two separate wards, unable to meet but concerned for each other. They were the Romeo and Juliet of the hospital   apparently, as one of the hospital porters told me!

Long story short…she needed some emergency surgery, which she had, we had to be there for both of them, and we were. Pops needed an Angioplasty, which was performed at a later date.

But a huge question mark was there hovering above us. Why Pops? He was the healthiest person we knew, good diet, no alcohol, fit, non smoker.  Family history, we were told. It was always going to happen as it was in his blood, so strongly. And that was true.  His brother was taken at a relatively young age, through diabetes and heart complaints, as was his oldest sister.  The other 3 sisters all had heart problems. He had been the only one with no health complaints as such.

Still, such was his faith, and belief that he would be ok with God’s grace, that when things settled down, he decided that God had given him another chance at life.  He had been reborn that day of the heart attack.  After that day, once he was given a clean bill of health, he cleaned up his lifestyle, even more  than before, and started his yoga mission. This helped him so much personally, that he took it upon himself to train as a teacher, and now spreads the benefits via his lessons.  And he does them for free. They are his way of giving back to humanity, as his God would want. This is what our Gurus said to do. As long as you have what you need, share, and give to charity, be it money or time.

So there you have it, that is why my Pops, my father, has just celebrated his 11th birthday! And believe me, he does celebrate it!

Grandparents

Grandparents… Very precious commodity in the lives of their grandchildren.
Not that you always think it…

My two munchkins are lucky enough to have all 4 of theirs in their lives. My in-laws live right next to us, and my own parents are 3 hours away, but still here and actively involved in their grandchildren’s lives.

I never had the pleasure of even meeting my paternal grandparents, they passed away when my Pops was young. He lost his father when Pops was a child himself, and his Mother when he was in Mumbai studying to become a dentist, far away from her in Kenya. But I hear of them as being loving, amazing people, and I wish I had a chance to meet them, just once, to thank them for making my Pops the person he is.

My mum’s parents have also both left us, but at least I met them. But they never lived close to us, always in Kenya, while we were in the UK. My Nanaji, granddad, is a person I remember as such a strong, respected character, well known in his community, a charitable man who always tried to help better the lives of others by paying for the education of his employees children, and encouraging his own to be what they could. He even sent my mum abroad to University in the UK, not a usual thing in the 60’s for a young indian girl, because he believed in equality and gave all his children the same opportunities. He passed away when I was 6, but even from such a young age, my memories of him are etched in my heart. My Nani, grandma, was the sole grandparent I got to know. We had snatched holidays to spend with her, over in Kenya, and she would sporadically come over here to stay with us. She was a funny lady, never saying anything correctly, with all sorts of funny foibles! Telling my cousins, brother and I off when we were together for making too much noise, but them worrying when we were too quiet! OCD about her cutlery, I remember her counting spoons on numerous occasions! Plus she had so much love to give. I was 22 when she died, old enough to really understand what I was losing. All my grandparents, gone. My one consolation was that, though she had not met my Hubby Dearest, she had known about him, and had spoken with him on the phone.

Getting married, I was so happy, and one of the many reasons I was happy was that I would, by default, be getting some grandparents! Hubby Dearest had both his wonderful grandmothers alive at the time we got married. One in India, but one lived here too, so I would get to experience that grandmotherly affection once again!

India Grandma was the loveliest lady, she accepted me into the family with open arms, was forever hugging me when we would go to India to see the family, and was a wise woman, with sage advice to give. It was a blow to lose her 2 years into our marriage. UK grandma was another great character! She never managed to say my name correctly, I was Mitu to her, right until the end! We forged a strong relationship, and I had the pleasure of giving her 2 great-grand kids, whom she doted on! But, again, a few short years ago, just under 3 actually, she also passed away.

Knowing these inspirational people, with so much knowledge, time and stories were no longer with us made me sad, but more determined that our kids should be able to have unlimited access to their own grandparents. It made me look at our parents on a different light.

My in-laws, born and brought up in India, came over here, with minimal education, and worked their fingers to the bone to create a loving, secure home, not only for their kids but for my father in-law’s parents and siblings too. Dad worked 14-16 hour shifts, didn’t see his own children growing up properly, to secure 2 homes for the family. Mum in-law worked in various menial jobs to support her husband too, along with looking after the family. They bring a sense of security to our children. They are spoken to in our mother tongue by my in-laws, to ensure that they still have a good knowledge and respect for their culture. My lovely mother in-law has learned all sorts to keep the kids happy and occupied, always having their favourite programmes recorded for them to watch when we go to them, and even learning how to Loom Band!! Dad in-law always tells me how he loves this time with them, he missed it with his own children. Lil Princess was even born on his birthday, so he shares a special link with her! Me and Hubby Dearest are here to make sure they are good British Citizens, speaking English, and educating them on things they need to know growing up here.

When we can, we go to my parents, where they get a different grandparently experience! It’s like holidays all the time, and yes, they do get a little spoiled, but on the flip side, having English speaking, educated grandparents too, gives them a chance to converse and learn from a different perspective. Plus, they get the Kenya boost from them then too!
Lil Man is an excellent Dhol player, so when he’s with my Pops, they make music and dance around! And, not sure how, but he also shares a birthday with his grandparent… My mum! Lil Princess is always dipping in my mums endless boxes of treasures, finding things to inherit!

The great things with grandmothers, both of them, is they appear to have infinite patience! Where I will get agitated after a short while of ‘help’ from the kids in the kitchen, they can be with them for hours, and put up with the mess created, much to the joy of the kids! And the same with grandfathers… a park outing is mentioned once and they are off. If they say the same to me, I have a list of things to do first!

And if you mention your wishes to these amazing grandparents, somehow they seem to fulfil most of them! ( though I do have to curb that ability sometimes, to stop the kids getting too spoilt!)

Sometimes, when we’ve had endless after school activities, and I’m shattered, the last thing I want to do is go anywhere, but still, I make sure these kids see their local grandparents almost everyday. These are the folk who, in emergencies, are there for us, when the kids are ill, are able to go see that christmas show that the kids are in, as we, as parents, couldn’t get the time off, are at the end of the phone for any advice.

Ok, so that opportunity is not available for my parents, but we try and ensure contact with them too, everyday. That good night phone call happens without fail every night! And again, precious advice given, words of encouragement, it’s all important!

There’s a quote by someone, “Grandchildren are so much fun, I wish I’d had them first!” Because you, as a grandparent, aren’t fully responsible for the child. You can do the fun stuff, but leave the essential discipline to the parents! Then there’s the quote ” I love my grandkids, I can give them back!” Again, enjoy your time with those precious bundles then refresh yourself until the next time they descend! Parents don’t have that outlook on things. So this is why its so important to have time with those oldies! (Though they’re not always old!)

You see, grandparents ARE a precious commodity, and now mine are gone, I want to make sure my children fully appreciate theirs, and get the love and affection only a grandparent can give.

It’s Friday!

Good morning Peeps! Can I get a “whoop whoop”!!!!

It’s Friday! It’s not just any old Friday, but a Friday I have been waiting for for a loooooong time!

After my crazy nursery based day, the sprogs and I shall be hopping into the car and heading off on a 3 hour road trip (possibly longer, if traffic is unkind to us) to Birmingham, as my gorgeous Finndian family branch are here! My brother, sister in law and finnjabi nephew are here, and we get a whole weekend together!

Can’t wait for my Bubby cuddles, I have a good few months of them to catch up on!

I hope you all have a wonderful day, and a fantastic weekend Peeps!!!

Guess who’s home?!

Well hey there peeps!
I hope this little post finds you all well!
We are finally back from our little family break in Center Parcs, Sherwood Forest. A beautiful place, rainy for 2 days then sunny after.

My legs ache from all the walking around.
We had encounters with lots of beautiful animals too… I shall post pics soon!
Our bank is empty from the extortionate prices of activities and good, but hearts and mind full of happiness, and great memories! πŸ™‚
Oh and phone camera bursting with pictures, capturing special moments!
It took us time to get home, but home we are, tired and sated!
Washing machine is on… First load anyway, unpacking done (ish) and all I want is my bed!
I apologize I was unable to read many posts, but I managed to catch up with my notifications along the way!
And Sonu Singh is so happy to have us home! He’s back where he belongs, in our bags!!

But I Smile Anyway...

Just in case you were wondering…

As you read this, you might wonder…. Why has that effervescent blogging soul, Ritu, not responded to my comments/liked my post/written something about my post?

Well, it’s because I’m not here! Yes, you will see scheduled posts popping up, but I’m off to no wifi land!!

Yup, Monday through to Friday our little family are away, leaving our faithful house sitter to eat us out of house and home, and finally embark on a family break!

And, it appears that there will be very limited wifi available, so sorry in advance if I am unable to respond straight away! But then, pure family time us so rare, that I hope you forgive me!

But, somehow, whenever this situation seems to arise, I always find ways to post, or respond, so, again, don’t be surprised if I DO post, lol!!!

I will hopefully fill you all in on our adventure when we’re back!!!

Bye Peeps! Enjoy your week!!! 😊😊😊
