#Snowmaggedon2018 – In addition to injury report #4098

(Warning… Instagram heavy post!)

I’ll start with the injury report, shall I?

Well, you know I was incapacitated last week? (fell over, well actually, tripped over a chair, totally my fault, in the classroom at the end of the day on Friday, and ended up with a suspected fracture on my elbow!) I had the follow-up appointment on Monday, and after a three-hour wait (eek!) and another x-ray, the doctor decided it was not a fracture, but a severe sprain, and muscular injury.

I left with a sick note excusing me from work for a week, then reduced duties for the following two… and a rather fetching sling!

Great!

So I’m not at work… but I was kinda gutted, we had World Book Day on Thursday, and a visit from a dentist in the nursery on Friday too… And I  wouldn’t be there…

But… I could rest, in peace, for a few days at least!

NOT!

You know this big storm, the Beast from the East? All Siberian blasts and low low windchill factors? Well, it was due to hit last night, and we were rather let down by its efforts before bed. The kids were praying for a snow day, I knew Hubby Dearest wouldn’t be able to get to his work either…

And we woke to this…

After an agonising hour wait, I found that Lil Princess’s (and my) school was shut due to dangerous driving conditions, but Lil Man, well his school are just obviously oblivious to snow, and they were Open As Usual.

Packed a stroppy tween off with his daddy to be dropped off, and settled down for a relatively restful day with him on his laptop, working for home, and Lil Princess trying to make slime, or watch videos!

Sonu Singh had a visit to the garden too. He wasn’t sure of the white stuff at first, sniffing it, touching it, then ending up on his hind legs trying to get away, before jumping back inside!

Then he had another go, and decided snow wasn’t too bad!

The snow had stopped falling but it started up again, covering any tracks that had been made previously…

Then at 11am, we got a call from Lil Man… they had taken the decision to close his school too! Hubby Dearest ventured out, car slipping and sliding along the way, to pick up our first born!

Firmly ensconced back in the house with chip shop chips as lunch, it was time to enjoy Snow Day!

So, I am sat inside, after venturing out to take some photos, and will be enjoying this Snow inside, while the others go mad out there!

Week off? Peace? Unlikely! We have more due tonight, and then the kind folks south of us are sending in another storm, labelled Emma where there may be MORE snow on Thursday and Friday!

Oh well!

Here are some more photos for you to enjoy!

Scroll along on the one below, there are a few shots!

And last but not least… Do You Wanna Build A Snowman???

So, let’s see what the rest of the week holds! Not much rest for me, but I’ll be trying! Enjoy Peeps, and stay safe!

Snow Fun! (It Didn’t Last Long Though!)

Well, you know how excited I was yesterday, about the snow fall that we had.

It was cold. We got around 3 cm.. not much, but enough for the kids to want to go wild out there! (Well, as wild as 3cm lets you get!)

Initially, I was like, “No kids, you need to get to bed. We’ll see tomorrow.” But then I got to thinking. I was fully aware that the snow was not due to continue falling overnight, but the temperatures were going to be low. This meant that whatever snow we had would still be there, but in ice form, rather than lovely soft snow.

So I crumbled, and all four of us got wrapped u, ready to go and ‘play’ in the snow!

It would have been five, but Sonu went out and ran straight back in. Strangely, he doesn’t like cold, wet things falling on his fur!

And they attempted to make snow angels, snow balls and snowmen!

It meant that the pristine, snow-covered garden was now a mushy mess, but at least they had fun!

This morning, it was indeed icy. I needed a pickaxe to get through the ‘snow’ on the windscreen, and the road, in places, where the area was mostly residential, was treacherous. There were ice rinks where puddles once were!

Getting to school was no better. The carpark was a giant lawsuit waiting to happen, with iced-over surfaces! The caretaker was trying his hardest to salt and grit over the playgrounds before the children arrived, and there were three of them for him to deal with! One is on an incline, and the main path is at the bottom of the slope. As he scraped the path, the ice from the top of the playground was melting, and rolling down slowly, refreezing where he was trying to clear!

Poor guy!

It was almost a pointless exercise!

Morning play outside for the whole school was cancelled as all three playgrounds were far too dangerous, except in our nursery. We were lucky! Our little area still had some ice snow for the kids to enjoy, and clear paths for them to move around!

It was a joy to see these children, some of whom hadn’t even been allowed to touch the snow, play in this wonderful cold stuff that they hadn’t ever experienced before! (Unless they were from Poland, in which case they had seen much, much more!)

And we even made a snowman!!!!

Alas… it’s all gone now!!!

Snow! We Have Snow!!!

I can’t quite contain my excitement Peeps!

I know it’s not much, yet, and probably won’t amount to much, but we finally have snow!

We had a sprinkling a couple of years ago that melted within hours, and wasn;t sufficient for the kids to play with. The last time we had any snow of significance, was 6 years ago.

Today I drove home in a mini blizzard!

There is a couple of centimetres now…

The footprints of the kids covered up within 20 minutes of them stepping out in the crisp new snow! Oh boy, are they excited! Already deciding what they will do with this unexpected day off that they are thinking they will get!

Not sure how to break this to them that school will be on… It is not likely to snow all night. But more likely to ice over, and just be treacherous for us to drive in!

But I guess we can all dream of a snow day, and the hope that we get to stay at home for a bonus extra day!!!

Here are some pics of the snow over the last hour!

And it is still falling!!!!

Another Week In Nursery!

It’s been a while since I posted about my dear class.

Honestly, they are a wonderful bunch!

Trouble-free? I didn’t say that, but if that were the case, it would be boring!

Take today, for instance. We usually put a little activity out for the kids to ‘fiddle’ with, when they arrive. This morning I had stickle bricks out (remember them?) and when the children have created things, we always ask them to tell us what they made. Usually, they are just towers of blocks, and the child will tell you it’s a car/house/rocket/mummy. But their imagination and creativity is growing, and we are getting recognisable objects… sometimes…

Check out this wonderful piece…

It’s a Dog-Rocket, of course! What did you think it was?

And in other news, we have had a winter fuelled week, making ‘icicles’ and ‘snowmen’, and talking about the weather.

It’s a crying shame that these children are not old enough to have actually seen snow here in the UK, being only 3-4 years old. So I did a bit of research on good old Pinterest, and found out how to make realistic play snow, that was even cold to the touch, and mouldable too!

Bicarb of soda (Baking soda for you Americans!) and white hair conditioner. It worked a treat, but you needed a lot of Bicarb. So I found a second recipe using corn flour and shaving foam too.

The bicarb one really was cold, but there wasn’t a huge amount.

Still, the kids loved it! Though the cleaner probably cursed me, as there was powdery white stuff everywhere!!!!

And this inspired me to create a new display too!

Those are our ‘icicles’ hanging from the top, and I even wrote a poem!

Frost and icicles and snow!
Winter weather’s here you know!

A great big snowman we will build
Until our hands feel cold and chilled

Then we’ll come and warm our hands
We love winter with our friends!

Whether they appreciate it or not, I think it looks pretty! And the children always love to look for photos of themselves!

I was especially impressed with my Olaf! Who doesn’t love him? The best thing was when I originally put Olaf on the wall. There was nothing else to look at, but him. It intrigued the children, who were eager to see what all this was about. But the best scene was when I came inside from the playground to find four little girls like this…

They were ‘watching’Olaf like a film!!!!

Oh to be a child again, eh!

More from Nursery-Land another time!

Cold!

image

You can’t really see it in the photo, but we just hsd our first snow flurry!
Huge, great flakes fell for a few minutes, but it was not in their fate to settle… The ground was far too wet from all the rain!
A shame as Lil Man has a special training session, where possible sponsors, the local council, and the press, are attending.
And no, despite the atrocious weather, it’s not been cancelled!
Happy Saturday Peeps!

But I Smile Anyway...
