#SoCS Nov. 21/2020 –

Linda’s #SOCS prompt for this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “the last thing you put in your fridge.” Start your post with the last thing you put in your fridge. Let your mind wander from there. Enjoy!

Beer-ly, Linda? (Like what I did there? Beer was the last think I put in the fridge, for Hubby Dearest…)

It’s been an age and a half since I took part in the #SOCS challenge, and you give me this prompt?

Why have I been away so long?

Well, in case you weren’t aware, there has been a crazy pandemic, let loose across the world, and after deciding to cut all my excess blogging, to concentrate on my WIP, I started back at school in September, and basically found my whole life sucked out of me!

Forget working on my WIP. The only thing I’ve been good for, the last few months has been work. Full Stop.

It’s been exhausting, in school, dancing to the tunes of the imbeciles in charge of our government, and the education sector, all the while knowing what they are suggesting is probably not the right way to do things.

I’ve been falling into the house, exhausted, mentally and physically, with a particularly challenging class, to top it off, and besides making sure my family is fed, I barely have the energy to do anything else!

I read, yes, but fall asleep, frequently, with the book in my hand.

Oh, and not to forget the home renovations, as well as putting the house on the market, and beginning the search for our forever home!

Writing has taken a total back step, because my brain can’t compute any more!

But, I hope, I am back now!

#SoCS June 20/2020

Linda’s #SoCS prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “zz.” Find a word with double-z in it and use it in your post. Enjoy!

Do you like a glass of fizz?
Does it get you all awhizz?
Or give you a gentle buzz?
Leave memories afuzz?

Do you wake with eyes all blurry?
Tongue feeling rather furry?
Wishing you hadn't had that curry?
Need the toilet! Quick! Go! Hurry!

Or, morning after, are you chipper
Because Prosecco is far hipper?
You're not a glugger, more a sipper
Last night - What a ripper!

#SoCS June 13/2020 – Nail

Linda’s #SoCS prompt today…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “nail.” Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!

Ever since I was young, I’ve had issues with my nails.

They wouldn’t grow, then I didn’t give them a chance, by biting them to the quick.

After years of weaning myself off nail-nibbling, including various ways, like trying StopNGrow polish that tasted yuck, and dipping fingers in chilli powder (ouch, yes!) I finally stopped. I don’t think any of the above actually helped, I just grew out of it, but unfortunately, my nails didn’t.

After subjecting them to all that biting, they were weak. And I wasn’t graced with great nail genes either, as Mum was an even worse biter than me, and my Pops, well, he just cut them down all the time, so I don’t know if he had the capacity for beautiful, long, strong nails

So false nails became my saviour. I’ve tried so many different types of extensions, from fibre-glass, to acrylic, to gel nails. I even used gel polish instead of the normal. My last foray was into SNS dipping powder nails, where the colour is in the mineral enriched powder that is dipped onto your nails, creating a coloured hard coating.

I’ll tell you a little something. As an Early Years Teacher, I am subjected to a whole lot of washing, on a regular basis, from washing equipment, to water play, to washing hands, and water really softens my nails, weakening them more, so the SNS powders have been great at protecting them and allowing them to grow beneath. And every two to three weeks, I go and get them redone.

I do love my SNS nails. But the problem is that it is not easy to remove the product, unless you have the right acetone remover or equipment to do so. And guess what happened three months ago?

LOCKDOWN!

And with that, all nail salons shut!

Shocking!

Who’s going to help me sort out my nails? As they grew, the temptation was strong, to chip them off slowly. And that is never a good thing.

But, the plus side has been that my nails have had nearly three months of naturalness. No polish, or product on them. They are growing, still soft, but growing, themselves… maybe I can wean myself off getting them done regularly… (and save myself a pretty penny!)

I love pretty nails
My sparkling, polished talons
Make me feel so glam!

#SoCS June 6/2020 – Fan

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “fan.” Use it by itself or find a word that starts or ends with it. Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Fantastic prompt word form our Linda, don’t you think?

Hmmm, gotta say, I love a fan. You know the folding ones that you can spread out and use in the heat. Because, God knows, I am not great with heat. Yup, this is the girl who slowly melts as the temperatures go up.

Make up and I are not fans of each other in the heat. either. I always remember the makeup artist on my wedding day. She tried her hardest to convince me that I needed A-grade cement filler style foundation, because of all the lights and cameras that would be on me.

(She’s not wrong. An Indian wedding is nothing short of a Bollywood film in the making, when it comes to the filming, and the guests like the couple’s fans. Equipment may be smaller and more advanced now, but then, nearly twenty years ago, there were cameera men with huge cameras hoisted upon shoulders, or on tripods, big lights set up, and photographers too. The amount of times people would get angry as the film-maker was more intent on getting the ‘take’ right, rather than actuall allowing a wedding to take place smoothly! Thank goodness there is more discretion, nowadays!)

Anyway, back to my story. I knew that, despite the wedding being in November, the heat of the lamps, and all those guests in one place, would result in whatever face I had painted on, sliding down my own face, and coming to rest somewhere around my neck. So I refused, buying my own lightweight base, thank you very much!

All’s well that ends well. The makeup stayed on pretty solidly, my skin could still breathe and I only lost one of my false eyelashes, at 9pm that night, after crying so much at the departing scene of the movie wedding.

Fan-bloody-tastic!

#SoCS May 30/2020 – Spay Splay Spray

Linda’s #SoCS prompt, this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “spay/splay/spray.” Use one, use two, use ’em all, it’s up to you. Have fun!

Yout hips move with a sway
Blonde hair hardened with spray
Red lips pout in that way
You beckon to me, legs a-splay
'You fancy a roll in the hay?
I've a partner, thank you, no way!
Their instructions I have to obey
Off on my errands,' I say
'A kitten, that we need to spay
The vet's waiting for me to pay'
I doff my hat, 'good day!"
Poor thing, she wouln't know I was gay
