#SoCS Sept. 16/17 – Vol

Linda’s prompt for #SoCS this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “vol.” Find a word with “vol” in it, and use it in your post. Have fun!

Volume – My hair has far too much volume at the moment. I got shorter layers cut into it in the holidays, and now, being naturally curly, it decides to do some wonderful things at night, so when I wake up, I look like I’ve been dragged through the hair backwards!

And the thing is, I don’t wash my hair every day. It’s something I’ve never done. With all the Indian superstitions regarding girls and hair washing, I’d never get a chance, if I believed them all! If I was to wash it every day, instead of the twice a week I have grown accustomed to, then the Bed head would be a thing of the past!

I was told as a child, to never wash my hair on a Thursday as I only have the one brother, and it would be bad luck for him.

Then when I got married a few other days were added to the mix, as my Mother In Law is quite the believer!

So Tuesdays and Saturdays went out of the window too, and I don’t even know why!

What’s even sillier?

Sikhs aren’t supposed to believe in superstitions!

But to be honest, my hair isn’t greasy, and I can’t be floofed with washing and drying every day. It gets cold in the winter too, and Hat head is no lesser evil than Bed head! Letting your wet hair dry under a woolly hat makes for an interesting look, believe me!

I’m grateful for my voluminous locks, to be honest. Many pay a lot of money for curls, yet God graced me with mine from the moment I was born!

So, do you know why I can’t wash my hair on a Tuesday or a Saturday? Or do you have your own hairwashing superstitions you can add to these?

#SoCS Sept. 9/17 –

Linda’s #SoCS – Stream Of Consciousness Saturday prompt is:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “motive.” Use the word “motive,” in any form, in your post. Enjoy!

Motive

Emotive

Motivate

Locomotive

Automotive

Promotive

What a word you gave us Linda.

My brain is like a pile of mush at the moment, after the first week back at school.

I read it, and thought, what was the motive of Linda’s for giving us such a prompt?

Following that thought, I just listed words that had motive in them!

But then there will be those of you who are writing, and may take the word and fly with what your character’s motives are for what they are doing in your book.

Or you may think of a favourite character or villain in a film and question their motives.

Then there is the chance you might decide to think about someone you know, and wonder what their motives are for actions they might have taken recently…

What is the motive for me to write this post?

Because I always like a challenge, and I have been taking part in Linda’s challenge for like FOREVER!

Oh yes… this is a total stream of consciousness… possibly even bordering on unconsciousness lol!

Ok, I’m off to hole up in my bed again… and cradle my poor bruised foot… thankfully the swelling is much better!

Happy Saturday Peeps!

#SoCS Sept. 2/17 – Birth/Berth

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “birth/berth.” Use one, use ’em both, but whatever you do, have fun!

So… I am a little too excited as I type this… but I shall chat about a few things…

Berth – When I went to Russia on a school trip… (Yes really Russia! It was amazing!) We took an overnight train from St Petersburg to Moscow. And I had to sleep on the train. I got the lower berth, or bunk, and it was the best nights sleep I have EVER had! Gently rocked to sleep…amazing!

Birth –  now this is why I’m a little excited, and why I’m a little tipsy… (Yes I wrote this post last night, scheduled for the morning as I don’t think I’ll be up early!) But today, after a particularly successful first day of my freebie promotion for my book Poetic RITUALS (You didn’t know? It’s FREE until tomorrow!  Grab your copy while you can on your Kindle by clicking this link! myBook.to/PoeticRITUals), well… Amazon gave birth to a #1 Best Selling Author!!!!

20170901_195713

I am so ecstatic right now… (and a little merry!) I hope to see that happen with my novel… as and when it gets finished too!

Thank you all of you who downloaded it! I am looking forward to reading the reviews!

Birth (take two) – It’s my Birthday tomorrow! And today my Hubby Dearest is whisking me (and the kids) away to a lovely hotel for a treat! We are off tonight, and back tomorrow, after what will, hopefully, a lovely evening!

Right… I’m off to enjoy my glass of wine now!

Cheers Peeps!

#SoCS Aug. 26/17 – When

Linda’s prompt for #SoCS this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: Start with “WHEN.” Write whatever you’d like, but begin your post with the word “when.” Enjoy!

When can we go swimming, Mummy?”

That’s a question I hear all the time, and have heard a lot over the last few year.

Kids love swimming and water. If we go anywhere, even for a night, the first question will be “Is there a swimming pool?”

Now, don’t get me wrong.  I love swimming, but the last few years, it has been less swimming and more eagle eyes in back of head, as I watched warily to make sure one of my brood didn’t drown.

Lil Man is actually pretty good, so he can head on up to the deep end, and dives in, swims around with confidence.

Lil Princess however, was a different story. She had learned how to swim, was doing really well, then I had to cancel the lessons as full-time teaching took its toll on after-school activities. She resorted to staying in the shallow end, or baby pool, splashing around, and pretending to swim (doing the arm movements, but hopping along the floor of the pool!).

I always felt bad, but there wasn’t much I could do about it.

We have a couple of local pools, and when the holidays come the same old question rings out constantly: “When can we go swimming?”

I shouldn’t have a problem, but I do. Several.

  1. I want to actually swim too, but can’t as I am on life guard duty.
  2. The pools are full of crazy kids jumping in at random times, and, shock, horror, getting my hair wet!
  3. I’d need to defuzz… and I hate having to do all that preening, just to enter a pool full of strangers!
  4. Going there requires an effort I don’t always have, in lazy lounging holiday mode!
  5. Public pools can be so…dirty!

Usually, when we go to visit my parents, there is a trip to the pool involved. Luckily my mum loves to swim too, and so we station ourselves, one with Flipper (Lil Man) and one with wannabe Mermaid (Lil Princess).

We swap over the hour or so we are there, and get a little chance to swim too.

This summer, the cries for swimming have been more intense.

Why?

Because Lil Princess has been taking swimming lessons at school, and, like they say you never forget how to ride a bike (not true…I’m sure I can’t any more!) it appears to be the same with swimming.

“Mummy, I want to show you how I swim! I’m nearly in the top group too!”

So, when in Birmingham the other week, we took them.

And what a pleasant surprise!

My daughter really can swim!

And we spent the whole time in the deep end, with the kids jumping off the diving boards, and swimming. It only took one of us to be life guard, freeing the other up to actually swim!

Because I was so happy to see that, I even got convinced to show them my diving. It’s been a long time since I dived, and, many moons ago, I was pretty good.

Well, I didn’t belly flop (that was Lil Princess’s domain this time!) but I forgot the pressure as you hit the water, and nearly twisted my neck the first time! It was marginally better the second.

Diving means my hair got wet too – another annoyance that I overcame!

She’s happy, she’s shown Mummy she can swim. And mummy is very proud of her.

But not everyone knows of her skills, and she needs to demonstrate them again, so now the request is being made elsewhere…

When can we go swimming, Daddy?”

Yeah, you take them this time! The question is…When?

#SoCS Aug. 19/17 – Pant

Linda’s back with her #SoCS prompt AND a shiny new badge too!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “pant.” Use one the word “pant” as is, or find a word with “pant” in it and base your post on it. Have fun!

Pants.

They are very confusing, aren’t they?

Well the understanding of the word on either side of the Atlantic varies slightly, and with that could come several uncomfortable situations!

You see, over here in good old Blighty, pants are the short term for underpants. Yes, that’s right, Underwear.  Knickers, Y-fronts, thongs – PANTS.

Yet over in the US of Aaye, you loosely use the word to describe what we call trousers!

So if, in one of these tags, someone asks “What colour pants are you wearing?” you have to wonder at the nationality of the person who wrote the question. Are they truly interested in the style and design of your trousers, or is there a perverse desire to collect data on what type and colour smalls you are wearing?!

What if someone asks you to take your pants off… ? Which ones!?!

Pants – American folk over there – they are not trousers, they are undies!

And don’t you just love the new badge? 😀
