Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 291 –

“When nothing goes right, go left.”

Anon

What a great quote, Spidey! Thanks for finding that gem!

What a thought. When nothing goes right, go left.

A timely reminder that there isn’t only one way to accomplish your goals. When one way leads you to a dead end, there is alway another direction you could follow.

Sometimes we are so focussed on where we go, the psychological blinkers are one, without us even realising.

Our vision is closed to the other ‘slip roads’ that appear along the way; little detours that may take a little longer, but will allow us to reach our destination just as well as the straight forward route.

But there are also routes that veer you totally off course, too.

The biggest example of this, for me, and maybe for maany budding authors, is when I knew I had a book in me, and I wanted to get published.

Initially, it felt like the only way was to find an agent and publisher, in order to see my book baby out there in the world.

Then, thanks to some great writers I know out there, the spotlight was turned to that publication route known as self or independent publishing. Absolutely nothing wrong with going it alone, as long as you have the right support and advice guiding you.

I nearly fell into the vanity publishing lane, but was advised quickly to be wary, unless I had recommendations.

But I managed to veer onto the road to publication the independent way, and here I am, finally at my destination of published author. Sure, it’s not in a mainstream bookstore, but I am still confident that one day, you’ll see my name there, too.

Not a right or wrong route, but a right or left choice. I went left. Got there in the end! And now, my book is officially registered with the British Library, too!

So… tell me, do you take the straightforward road, or are you happy to detour?

Have a peaceful Sunday Peeps.  And enjoy your week!

OMG Ritu! I LOVE this!! What a fantastic post!! Wow! Congrats on being in the British Library! You should try and get it in the Library of Congress too!! One of my favorite sayings, “If you don’t ask, you don’t get!!” Try? I read the quote to the wife and waited for the laugh, took a few seconds. Deep stuff!! We’ve all been on some detours, haven’t we!! Masterpiece, Dear!

Hi,Sis! Sorry, i am more and more a Sunday only visitor. The quote is quote, and in my realisation it sounds like “There is always a way for another delay!” Lol Hope you are all well, and you are preparing another great podcast interview. Lets look around to Sonu. Have you managed to use the rest of the wall colour preparing a Pink Panther? Lol
Jokes byside! Wish you a great productive and stressless week! Keep on rocking your school. 😉 Michael

Thank you, Ritu. With regards to my blog, I copied what Sally did to the extent I could manage and it has worked wonders for me. I am so glad I have all so many writers, poets and bloggers as friends and guides on this journey.

I always felt that the straight path got you to the end of the line much too quickly, and you miss all of the fun diversions along the way! Bravo to you for being registered with the British Library!

The most important thing is to not become single minded with the route we take. We know our destination and where we want to end up, so we need to be open to all roads that lead us there.

Detours are part of the process. They also make us discover options we would not have seen otherwise. Next time, the detour may not be necessary anymore because the tools are already at hand.

Always stopping to smell the coffee(other beverages are available). It’s what gives me ideas.

They tell us to stick to the straight and narrow, but when was life ever like that? They told us things were black or white…well that’s not acceptable now, is it? They say do as you are told and keep in line but they can’t chain our souls or minds can they? I say keep your eyes open and go where life takes you and embrace the detours.💜💜💜

Publishing is an interesting journey, Ritu. You were better positioned when you published than I was. In 2016 when I published my first Sir Chocolate book I was completely clueless and had no social media at all not even FB. My publishing my books with TSL Publications was sheer good luck. I was also fortunate to find Sally and Sue’s blogs early in my blogging career and, through them, people like you.

Robbie, I think we are so lucky to have this Blog community, where good advice is abundant 💜
You have done amazingly, considering you were clueless at the start!!!
