December 28 – Flash Fiction  – Wishing Star

Charli’s prompt this week:

December 28, 2017, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about a wishing star. It can be central to the story or used in a different way. You can have a character interact or not. Go where the prompt leads.

We all make wishes… but what about those we rely upon to make them come true?

Wishes

We’ve all got our jobs, our charges to look out for.
I have 403 at the moment.
And for the most part, they aren’t really that demanding.
Wishing to win the lottery, to get that fast car, or a new house.
Wishes that are empty really. No one expects them to come true.
But those wishes, heartfelt pleas, they are the ones I know I have to get right.
The wishes that Daddy comes home for Christmas.
That Granny will pull through tonight, at least.
That the bully won’t get her today.
Being a Wishing Star is not easy…

#WritePhoto – Blue

Sue’s #WritePhoto Prompt this week:

I thought I’d continue the adventures of Barbie and Ken.
“Ken, what’s up? you’re looking a bit blue?”
Sindy siddled up to Ken, who was stood, leaning against the barriers, looking out over the river.
“What? Oh nah, I’m fine. Just chillin’, you know.” He stepped back, trying to put a little distance between himself and the brunette bombshell who had caused enough strife between him and Barbie already.
“I saw you and Barbie looking a little stressed out the other day, in the bar? Everything okay?” She put her hand on his arm, and gave it a reasurring squeeze. Instead of lifting it straight away, she let it rest there.
Ken tensed under her touch. He looked around. Knowing his luck Barbie was watching him, and she’d misconstrue this meeting too.
It had taken him hours to convince her that there was nothing going on between him and Sindy. No amount of Prosecco helped.
He lifted Sindy’s hand off his arm. “Yeah, all good. Never better, yeah.”
“Well, if you ever wanna, you know, talk, you got my number…” Sindy looked at him, winked, and strode off.
Now, what was that all about? Ken shook his head. He’d never get women…
To be continued…

#WRITESPIRATION #147 52 WEEKS IN 52 WORDS WEEK 52 – WIP @sacha_black

I must start this post with some sorrow… after a looooong time, Sacha has decided to retire her #Writespiration weekly prompt.

I have not been a participant for the whole 147 weeks, but I started part-way, and most definitely completed Sacha’s last 52 weeks of 52 words challenge for the last year.

Sacha is a very talented author, and has branched out into author help books too. On top of writing, she is a working mother and wife, and I can totally understand her decision to take a step back from this particular challenge. Operating any challenge is hard work, the monitoring, and collating of all the entries, the thinking of the prompts… it takes a huge amount of time, and I salute Sacha, and all the bloggers out there who take the time out to actually do this, on top of real life.

I do think she’s going a little easy on us though, with this last one… as it is already written, we just need to measure out the words!

Sacha’s #Writespiration prompt this week:

Your challenge is to write your story using the weekly theme/prompt and write it in just 52 words…. EXACTLY, no more, no less.

writespiration-2017

This week share the last 52 words you wrote on your current WIP.

So, as many of you know my current WIP is hitting it’s 17th year and is so near to completion!… I managed to get to over 69,000 words during my August self-imposed #RiNoWriMo!

Seems funny to see the last few lines I wrote of [working title] Wedded Stress! Forgive me, I used a little artistic licence to make sentences fit the 52-word limit!

“Yeah, I am. But a little nervous too. I’m not sure I like people I don’t know looking at my photos.” She fiddled with the tape deck.
“Well I can’t wait to see Arjun’s photos of me!” Rani piped up from the back. As she did, Bali slipped his arm behind her.

Thank you again Sacha! And to you, Peeps, who have continued to read my ramblings!

The last #FFRodeo competition, #8, has its winner announced, and I am humbled to say that along with a most deserving winner, I got an honourable mention for the TUFF challenge!

If you fancy checking out the entries, please go ahead and click the link below!

Thank you, Charli, for this amazing opportunity to stretch my creative mind!

To many writers, 99 words may hardly seem enough to tell a story. And yet, week after week I witness writers achieve compelling, emotive and imaginative stories in 99 words. Some are complete story…
