The tunnel – #writephoto

Sue’s prompt today for #WritePhoto

Man caught in the light at the end of the tunnel

“Hello?… Hello!..”

Becca rubbed her eyes and allowed her sight to adjust to the pinpoint of light that was streaming down on her.
It wasn’t quite clear, but she thought she could see someone standing there, at the end of the tunnel.
Summoning up all her energy, she tried to shout out.

“Hello! Help me!”

It wasn’t more than a whisper leaving her mouth.
Four days, she had been stuck in this cave. Four nights of pure darkness and four days of muted light she had endured with no food or water, and an excruciating pain in her leg, hip and shoulder.
She had gone for a walk to clear her head.

The arguments were starting to really wear thin now. Jack was getting increasingly paranoid and it took something as simple as her working late for him to start questioning everything from where she was, to why she was wearing certain clothes… even though he knew exactly where she had been.
She knew she wasn’t in the wrong, but how long could she fend off accusations and snide remarks? If he loved her, he wouldn’t do this…
Caught up in her thoughts, she hadn’t noticed the mouth of the cave, and didn’t see the unearthed root sticking up at the entrance.
Before she knew it, she was tumbling down a shallow tunnel, before coming to a wall. She had landed awkwardly and hurt her leg.

After calling out until she felt hoarse,  and trying to gently ease her way back up before realising that her shoulder hurt too much and that her leg couldn’t hold her weight, she had all but given up…

The days and nights were starting to blend into one another.

Surely Jack would have alerted the authorities. Someone must be trying to find her…

Her eyes were starting to close again when she heard something again.

A rustle, and what sounded like movement close by.

She felt herself being moved gently and reassuring voices calmed her.

As long as Jack believed where she had been, she had no wish other than that…

Oh To Be An Author…! #ShamelessPromotion

How big is your TBR pile?

I used to be able to judge how many books I had, by looking at my shelves.

Now, in this digital age, I turned to a Kindle to save space, as I have no room for more books, because of the children’s books, and my teaching resources!

I literally donated 7 huge boxes of books to the British Red Cross last summer when we had a clear out, and converted our study into a bedroom for Lil Man. It meant less space for our stuff, but at least the kids had the privacy they needed!

But it means that I really have no clue what is in my TBR pile, unless I scroll through the contents of my Kindle!

I appear to have around 35 unread books waiting for me!

The great thing about my Kindle is that I can pretty much support my fellow Indie authors straight away by downloading the books of interest to me as they get published.

Though I sometimes forget what I have stored to read for the future.

Just the other day I was looking to see what is next among my pile of virtual books, and I was so excited that I had, among others, books by Sally Cronin, Sue Vincent, Judith Barrow and April Munday. I have books by Robbie Cheadle and Colleen Chesebro to share with Lil Princess too.

And I felt proud that I actually know these talented writers, and can count them as my friends!

Two years ago, authors were haloed beings in my books, excuse the pun. The ones you could hope to emulate, but really had no chance to reach their successes.

But now I realise, two years on, that we are able to become one of ‘them’.

If we want to do it, we can become one of those haloed beings too!

Ok, so we may not reach the financial successes that the likes of J.K. Rowling and Stephen King enjoy, but to be honest, for me, success would be to be sat on the TBR pile of someone I know (and ultimately for the book to be read and reviewed, obviously!)

So, here’s hoping I pull off that writing through August thing, so I am able to say to you all, that “Hey! I have a fiction book out there too!” sooner, rather than later!

And, I know I am on the bookshelves, or Kindles, of some readers out there too… I managed to become a published poet last year!

Oh, and if you do decide to check it out… a little request from me… please leave a review!

Have a wonderful Wednesday Peeps!!!!

Melting…

I’m not ungrateful by any means. I do love the summer, and the warmth… I just wish I wasn’t at school, to actually appreciate it!

I shouldn’t really complain, right?
But you need to understand my plight, right?
Summer’s here in full force, right?
Sun lotion and barbeque sauce, right?
But temperatures over thirty, right?
Leaving me sweaty and dirty, right?
Kids can’t cope with the heat, right?
Ice cream ain’t just a treat, right?
Surely work can’t be legal, right?
I can’t even sleep at night, right?
And don’t get me started on pollen, right?
Itchy eyes, sneezes and throat, right?
I just need a holiday, right?
Then I might feel alright, right?

Monday Madness

I had a different thought for this morning’s post initially.

Something light and fluffy, you know, the typical Ritu-style…

But I woke to news that really affected me.

Another incident.

Another attack.

Another, possibly-terrorist, attack in London.

And no, Isis won’t be claiming this one.

This time it was a white van ploughing into worshippers leaving the Finnsbury Mosque in East London, as they had finished their prayers to signal the end of their fast that day.

One dead and eight injured.

Senseless.

Revenge.

More innocents killed or injured, for what?

Most of those affected were probably law-abiding Muslim citizens, who don’t condone all the previous attacks. True Muslims, who follow their religion with respect.

Yet Islamophobia and misinformation has led to someone thinking tit for tat, an eye for an eye, is the answer.

The driver of the van was detained by the public until the Police arrived.

When will it all end? Really?

Revenge is not sweet
No. It leaves a bitter taste
Of poison spreading…
Humanity, where are you?
Compassion, this world needs you.
