Meet the ABBA Committee! #BloggersBash

On June 10th, 2017, there will be a gathering of kindred spirits in London, at an event called the Annual Bloggers Bash. (And unless you haven’t been reading my posts, you know there are the Awards too!) Now, organising and hosting such an event is no mean feat, as I am sure you can all imagine!

#BloggersBash #London #bloggers #blogs

Two years ago, an idea was born in the crazy mind of our beloved host, Sacha Black, and a small meeting was set up, with a handful of awards given out over a meal.

It went so well that the second Bash was organised for last June. I had been unable to attend the first one but the second one, well, I was there with bells on! It was a true ball, and meeting bloggers, and my blogily, was one of the best days ever, seriously!

This year the bash is coming back, bigger and better than ever! There are more awards, more guest speakers, and there will be MORE BLOGGERS!!

But, as I said earlier, it isn’t easy to organise this kind of thing and Sacha enlisted a group of fellow bloggers, passionate about the Bash, to become her henchmen, slaves, Committee!

I thought it would be a great thing to introduce you all to them, with a set of three little questions that I asked them!

First off, we have our host, Sacha Black. Also described as Boss and Chief organiser! Sacha is a bit of a hard task master when it comes to getting things organised, but she is just as hard on herself, setting deadlines for her upcoming book release and forthcoming work! Post-its are her greatest friend! She hosts a great weekly fiction challenge, #Writespiration, in which she sets a prompt, but even crueller, she has set a 52-word limit on for the whole of this year’s pieces!

1) If you could be any book character… who would it be?
One character is HARD. I like Regina The Evil Queen from Once Upon A Time but that’s a TV show. I also luuuuuurve Deadpool’s sense of humour, but his face is mangled and I’m a bit too vain for that. I’m guessing saying Eden East, my own protagonist is cheating?! So…… ummmmm…. I might have to be a cliche and say Hermione Granger ! (No worries, Sacha, I do love a cliche!!)
2) If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life… what would it be?

If I could eat one thing and not get fat it would be chocolate. But if I’d get fat then I’d have to say raw veg salad. NOM. (So funny how both my ladies felt the food question needed to be answered first lol!)
3) What is blogging to you?
Blogging is freedom, support, creativity and rebellion. I started blogging under a pen name so I could say whatever the chuff I wanted. I was fed up of being muzzled by corporate life and I needed an outlet. It wasn’t till I had that freedom that I really realised what it meant to me and how much I NEEDED it. Over the years, I’ve come to realise that ‘Sacha’ and the blog is more representative of the real me than anything else in my life. What is blogging? It’s the lifeline that’s given me myself back again and because of that, I’ve made some of the closest friends I’ve ever had. Blogging is EVERYTHING. (Amazing answer! I totally get that feeling!!!!)

Next, comes Geoff Le Pard, affectionately known to me as His Geoffleship! Chief scout, venue finder and legal representative if anyone ends up arrested. What can I say other than I just love His Geoffleship! His humour is brilliant, his books are great to read, and his posts are an eclectic mix of creativity travel and memories. So wonderful!

1) If you could be any book character… who would it be?
This is tricky; part of me says Tintin but he’s a bit too good to be true and I like the odd flaw; another part says Rebus, the Scottish detective as he’s full of flaws but he’s really far too brave for me; and on the basis it should be someone who is rather hapless, always bounces back and manages to survive and smile Adrian Mole would appear to be appropriate. But, nah, let’s go with my real hero. Paddington. (Strangely, or not, I can see you as pretty much all of those characters, His Geoffleship!!)
2) If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life… what would it be?
Tricky, damned tricky this; given my fav meal is baked potato cheese and beans I’d say that if we were allowed a meal but since it is one thing only and I’m taking eat to mean drink as well, then a good cup of tea. (Spoken like a true Brit! And I have to agree because is Indians are the same with our tea… Though I may miss chocolate too much too!)
3) What is blogging to you?
Storytelling; humour; friendship; beauty in all its forms; unreasoning optimism and the inevitability that one day, via blogging the world will see me as a fabulously talented author (actually that falls into the unreasoning optimism category). (Another great answer! And His Geoffleship, why not be optimistic! You know for one, I think you are a great writer!)

Then we have the lovely Ali Isaac, described as the general genius and creative consultant. I also believe she restores a whole lotta calm on the proceedings when ‘organisation’ is happening! Writing about Irish mythology and an author, and in the midst of a degree too! Super Woman!

1) If you could be any book character… who would it be?
Probably Frodo Baggins, or maybe Katniss Everdeen from Hunger Games! 😁
2) If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life… what would it be?
Chocolate (I like this answer! A woman after my own heart… Malteasers, anyone?)
3) What is blogging to you?
Connections! I’ve met so many lovely people through blogging, some who are bloggers, and writers, and others who are not, but share the same interests. Blogging has really opened my eyes and made me see the world differently. 😊 (Oh I totally agree, Ali!)

And last… but by no means least… Hugh Roberts, who I call Huggable Hugh! Chief Entertainer, and official Bash Hugger!!! Hug found his niche after starting blogging and suffering from dyslexia. All I know is there is no hint of dyslexia in his posts and writing, just a whole lot of strange fiction, plenty of music and some great hints and tips for bloggers too! Hugh also published a fantastic volume of short stories last year… Glimpses, highly recommended!!!

1) If you could be any book character… who would it be?
I’d be the Time Traveller in H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine. It was the movie rather than the book that I saw first. From the moment I saw what was happening, I became fascinated by the thought about travelling through time. (There are many times I’d love to travel to… great choice!)
2) If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life… what would it be?
2. Pasta – Can’t live without the stuff. I’d have to have a sauce to go with it, my favourite being a tomato and basil sauce(Pasta… Mmmmm! Chocolate, tea, pasta…?I don’t think I cold choose just one…)
3) What is blogging to you?
For me, blogging is all about the community. If you don’t have a blogging community or belong to any, then it’s going to be a very lonely journey. As in life, in blogging, you need people, not just to read your posts but to comment and interact with. (Such a true thought Hugh!)

And there we have it, our committee for what will be an awesome bash!!!!!

See you on Saturday!!!

Thursday photo prompt: Derelict #writephoto

Sue’s #WritePhoto prompt this week.

“Full of potential, so it says. Rustic.  Close to nature.  Compact.  Minimalistic in a traditional way. That’s what the message says.”
John read back the details that the estate agent had sent him. Then looked up at the property.
Now he knew why the guy hadn’t sent a photo. He should have waited a few more days, but Lucy was obsessed with them getting this ‘country weekend home’ sooner rather than later and she was convinced that any properties worth having were snapped up straight away
“Potentially full of damp. Rusty. Nature’s taken over. Shoebox. No plumbing or amenities. That’s what it should have read! Seriously Lucy, let’s just get back in the car and head back. It’s not even wor-“ He stopped.
Oh dear God, he knew that look. Lucy was staring at the ramshackle cottage with a look of pure love.
“Oh Johnny, it’s perfect! Think of what we could do to this place!” She turned to give him the puppy dog eyes… and he had never been able to resist that look…
He felt his wallet lighten with every step towards the building…

Thursday Thoughts – On A Hairy Note

When that man (yes, I am sure it was a man!) decided that women should be perfectly hair free of the leg, underarm and facial region, what right did he have?!

I know we all have choices and all that, but deep down, I still feel the need to not expose my winter/spring down, that covers my legs, or lift my arms up if I have managed to forget to remove all evidence that there are hair follicle in those regions!

On a year-round basis, I need the upkeep of eyebrows and upper lip hair to be kept going. I visit my beautician to get my bits threaded. I’m afraid I can’t hide my face, but at least the rest of the body I can let live in its natural state… until times like now.

The sun is out, the temperatures ave been really warm the last two days, and yesterday, playing with my class outside, I felt I could not take my jumper off… because, shock horror, I hadn’t done my underarms! So I boiled slowly!

Getting home, the first thing I did was get my epilator out!

Then this morning, deciding that cropped leggings were the way to go, I realised that there were some stray hairs peeking out on the leg area that was now exposed! Eeek! Cue emergency epilator frenzy!

But seriously, why are we so worried about a few hairs on show? Over the years I have shaved, epilated, waxed and even lasered! It’s not cheap… It can hurt… But I just feel the need to do it.

I don’t want to be a human gorilla walking around school! I wish I could say I don’t care and am proud, but I just can’t!

Thankfully I have got over the bikini line thing. That pain I leave unless absolutely necessary!

WRITESPIRATION #117 52 WEEKS IN 52 WORDS WEEK 21 – Bare Walls

Sacha’s back with her #Writespiration prompt this week.

Your challenge is to write your story using the weekly theme/prompt and write it in just 52 words…. EXACTLY, no more, no less.

Tell me the story of why this room is empty!

photo-1444419988131-046ed4e5ffd6

Everything.
They took everything.
Not one fixture or fitting left to adorn the walls of this now bare shell of a room.
“If the bank are chucking us out, we aren’t leaving a thing, not even the carpet!” Rhys exclaimed.
They left, but not before unearthing a floorboard…that would make them think!

Book lovers tag 📓📔📕📗📘📙

I have been tagged by the blogger MusicGirl19 to do this Book Lover’s tag. Thank you for thinking of me! I do love books, and reading, so was definitely up for this one!

Do you have a specific place for reading?

I could read anywhere, in bed, on the sofa, on a lounger in the garden, by the pool… the one place I cannot read is in a car or coach. I get a really bad headache! Trains and planes are fine though!

Bookmarks or random pieces of paper?

I do love a good bookmark, but I have been known to fold corners. But at the moment I am reading via my Kindle, so a bookmark is a bit defunct!

Can you just stop anywhere or must it be at the end of the chapter?

I definitely prefer to stop at the end of a chapter, but if I have to, I try to find a natural break… unless I am tired and I fall asleep mid page!

Do you eat or drink while reading?

Yes, I do, but not all the time, I’d be huge then! I can even cook and read at the same time!

Music or TV while reading?

I prefer silence to be honest! Its too distracting. T, I start watching, and Music, I will end up singing along!

One book at a time or several?

One definitely! I have to give one book my full attention!

Do you prefer to read at home or elsewhere?

I love to read, curled up on the sofa or in bed to be honest, but would happily read anywhere!

Read out loudly or silently?

Silently, most definitely!

Do you read ahead or skip pages?

No, I don’t, or not any more! I used to be cheeky and check the ending, but not anymore!

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I like to break the spine, itg shows me the book has been read and loved!

Do you write in your books?

I don’t annotate. That is something I was happy to leave behind, after studying! But I do like to write my name in the front of some books!

I won’t nominate anyone specific, but I do urge you to have a go at the tag if you are a book lover too, just for the fun of it!

Link back to me so I can read your answers!

Happy reading!
